I took this job as I had moved from southern MN to northern MN I had went into work daily at 5 am and I took all sick calls, and staffed each area of the hospital on a daily basis. I ensured each area had enough coverage, if I did not have enough staff to work with I had to call and find coverage for the day. I also went to each area of the hospital daily and picked up there time sheets and delivered the next days. This is where I first learned the in's and out's of staffing and how to time card systems work. I worked with each manager to ensure that they were staffed and if there were any open shifts that needed to be posted to help them fill these.

There were four of us on my team and so we were not allowed to call into work as we were the person, so if happened we were sick or had an issue we would all go into work and call a co worker to come and help us if we needed to. The team I worked on was great, we would all pull through for each other to help out.

The hardest thing about this job was that sometimes you were not able to find enough nurses for the day so you really had to try to juggle things as you still had patients to take care of. I loved when we could find staff, and fill open shifts. When you would get a yes from someone that they would work it was so exciting.

On a typical day I clock in at my start time. People for the most part are friendly sans one co-worker who doesn't like me for some reason. I have my own desk, I'm allowed to listen to music as I work since what I do entails working with medical records and not directly with patients (another bonus). The hardest part of the job is the pay and how Human Resources handles missed paychecks. I live paycheck to paycheck and when I informed HR that I hadn't received my paycheck it wasn't important to them to get it done so that I could have money for the week to actually be able to get to work in the first place. I've been told by co-workers that they mess around with raises even though we're supposed to get 2% increase every year. The best advice I can give is make sure your direct deposit is accurate. You do get a parking pass, and their cafeteria food is ok - you get a small discount as an employee.

Working in residential for mentally Ill adults is not easy. Can it be rewarding? Yes. Can it be overwhelming? Yes. Having a full staff makes it easier to work with the clients and get all documentation in on time. For some reason this company is unable to keep staff. In several houses, staffing is an issue. If management took the time to train people who have potential and assist them succeed, perhaps there wouldn’t be such a staffing issue. Micro aggressions are real and unfortunately people who should not have biases as a professional, show them loud and clear. 

Worked here as an x-ray technologist before pursuing a career in MRI. Did not work in the x-ray field very long. This was also a busy and productive place to work. Management was great and was always there to listen to any concerns. The most enjoyable part of the day was the fast paced, challenging atmosphere. The hardest part was working third shift and holidays. My co-workers were great and all very helpful.

The idea of hiring from within is unfair due to plenty of positions and they are likely to offer the experience to outsiders. I was brought in as a temp employee and if your not permanent they treat you differently. The position I covered was a maternity leave and I applied for a couple of other positions but when i received a response it was just to inform me they hire only permanent employees already working for the company. Unfair.

Knowlegable, teaching, inclusive, helpful and pleasant staff.

Because of short staffing there was mandatory overtime.

I enjoyed my time at st. Joseph medical center and absolutely love and adore the people I worked with. Even management was nice and flexible for our unit as well. Its just we were short staffed at all time but management tried to make effort to staff and give breaks. Its just hard when there are not enough people to work.( they are trying to hire all the time) hard to retain RNs its lot of hard work so I feel like everyone just runs away

Very busy emergency room but that’s part of the job.

Help each other, show empathy, and be kind.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
They see about 250 patients a day in the ED.

St. Josephs Medical Center was absolutely the best hospital to work for the staff was so friendly and everyone worked together as a team. My responsibility was to keep 2North which was the NICU/Pediatrics clean and safe for patients, visitors and staff. Unfortunately I had to give up the job for my kids they needed me home with them.

I truly gained so much knowledge there. I felt like the patient ratios were safe, although pretty busy at times. Coworkers were for the most part pleasant; however, sometimes would be demeaning and talk behind your back. Doctors on nights were mean, day doctors were pleasant. As a new grad, I did feel like I got the orientation I needed to succeed. I do appreciate my time there.
