A typical workday would be greeting all the people I saw in the office, fold letters into envelopes and take them to the mail room along with anything else in our output mail box and come back with any mail there was, if any. Fax important patient documents, answer telephones but since I was an intern, I'd only take down messages, or put on hold until a secretary could answer the call. Make CD's with a patient's results and mail them to different hospitals or departments in the hospital. Everyday, I learned how to do something different in their computer program that they had for all their patients, St. Rose was the start of learning how to develop my people skills, I learned how to answer phones and small talk with people. The management was great. Everyone always knew what they were doing. My "co-workers" were amazing people, I loved talking to them and I got along so well with them. The hardest part of this internship was answering phone calls because it was usually someone calling with a lot of questions that I knew nothing about since I wasn't taught or trained on it. The most enjoyable part of the job was feeling trusted and sent to different offices to work on important patient reports, also, I got the chance to explore the different rooms of the Radiology Department. I have many favorite moments in this internship, but I loved getting to witness procedures when patients said it was okay for me to watch them. And their cafeteria had delicious food.

Working the the ED department has definitely changed my ways and views in life. I have learned that while the body is an amazing machine, life can change in a instant. There are days that are slow in the ED but most days we are very busy. Patients come in for minor colds to broken bones or burns. We are a cardiac center so we see many cardiac arrests which can be life saving or death. Working closely with patients who are sick allows me to become a better person by making them feel better even with just a smile. With patient consent, the doctors allows us to listen in on patient care which is a great learning experience. Management works with our schedule so we can continue with school and further education but advancement is hard and communication between staff and managers could be a whole lot better. For me the best part of the job is when a patients first comes in not feeling well but is able to leave with a smile at the end of their visit. Some patients wave bye or give a thumbs up and say thank you as they leave.

St Rose is a good work place environment, where staff is like a family, willing to help when in need. St Rose gave me opportunities to grow and advance my nursing career. Provided cross-training in different departments and help mentor new graduates, new employees. 
Everyday, I am presented with a challenge and each day is different from the rest, which it has pros and cons about it.
In ICU, staff are always willing to help, provide extra hands and teach each other for the betterment of the patients/person. 
Managers are a phone call away during after hours when needed, although there's always supervisor and charge nurse in the unit in case questions of some sort arises. 
I feel that, the hardest part of the job is when we can no longer make the person as a whole, when we cannot make them hemodynamically stable because of the disease that they have or the situation they are in. For me, that's when I feel my lowest point. After all, in this vocation we save lives and help people/patients to feel better again.

A typical day at St Rose consisted of documenting notes into an electronic medical record system for the emergency room Doctor and Physician Assistant. Although the job was physically and mentally demanding, I learned how to keep calm under the intensity of an emergency room. Having strong organization and communication skills are very important in this job field because of the importance of accurate documentations. The technology used in the work place was very outdated because of the lack of funding provided, which made many jobs within the emergency room difficult. My fellow employees are what made the job enjoyable and worth coming to work. Everybody was willing to help each other at any point in time, and everyone worked collectively as a group to maintain a productive working environment.

Receiving your workload then report as you begin treatments or ventilator care depending on what area you are working for the shift. You will be drawing and reporting ABG's. Management is the most fair with staff that I have ever worked with. The most difficult part of the job is having a busy shift and then breaking the workload up for the next shift.
The best part of working at St. Rose Hospital was working with the incredilbe staff. They are so knowlegdable that it is a breeze to work with them. They also know how to laugh at themselves and with others making the place a joy to work in.

Very poor ICU manager. No leadership skills. She is extremely unfair. She gives "competency" tests that are extremely difficult. These tests are not standardized but "made-up". We received no education in preparation. We were just given articles to read. She is ignorant of hospital HR policies.  She disregards union rules. She divides the unit by BSN against non BSN, experienced RN against new grad RN, day shift against night shift, and one ethic group against the rest. She helps her favorites to work extra while cutting others work hours. A very choatic, disorganized work environment. This is my first nursing job so I have nothing to compare. I don't recommend working here. My coworkers are helpful, knowledgeable,  dedicated,  and hardworking.  I will miss them.

Not EEOC by any means.  Never adequately posts new or open positions, current employees never given an opportunity for career advancement or growth unless they are related or of a certain culture, reverse discrimination, nepotism even under new management. New management prefers to push everyone out so they can hire fresh degrees at minimalist pay. Although they claim it is not a Stanford or other large hospital organization, the reality is that it is and you are "just a number" or just a warm body occupying a seat. No loyalty to loyal employees and have "found" ways to fire those who have been there 20-35 years to force them out and place the position with family or friends. Cafeteria food is HORRIBLE and pray they do not feed it to the patients.

A typical day at work is positioning patients and answering call lights, the staff nurse and i work as a team. I have learned that patients need our help more then ever. I manage by planning every care that i am going to do depending on which patient needs help the most. Everyone is equal and there is no discrimination and we all treat each other as a family and help each other. The hardest part of my job is that i am not working enough hours and how i'm not working 48 hours a week and how i only work 16-28 hours a week. The most enjoyable part of my job is how i feel happy when the patients tell me that they are satisfied with my assistance.

a typical day consists of a high volume of outside phone calls as well as inhouse and patient calls. excellent customer service is a must. I have learned how to multitask. Many different personalities from both doctors, nurses, allied health technicians and administration. The hardest part is staying on top of all the tasks. the most enjoyable part of the job is that it is busy so the day goes by fast and many great friends i have made at work. My bosses are very nice and very approachable with any issues or comments i have.

St. Rose Hospital is a non-profit independent safety net hospital.  I've learned many things & developed many skills working in St. Rose.  The challenges I've encountered in St. Rose has strengthened me as a Director of Case Management & Social Services.  St. Rose has allowed & encouraged me to be able to think out of the box to find solutions to the challenges we face.  What has kept me in St. Rose for 10 years and on-going are the people here.  Not just from my department but from Administration all the way down to the lowest level of employment.  St Rose being a small 220 bed hospital, you get to know many from different departments.  Everyone seems to have a good attitude.
