It pays better than most comparable positions nearby, but the pay is not really worth it. I am in this field for more than pay, or I would have never found myself here. The workload is that of multiple people, but a strict 40 hour work week. There is no true training process, and the only way to address issues with staff is literal job failure resulting in clients enduring real life problems [someone not housed goes on the street, gets an eviction, etc. due to poor job performance.] The local management is the best I have seen in terms of ethics and tolerance on the veteran side only. The non veteran program is almost nonexistent and manages a whopping 3 people who are all seeking new positions. The downside is that a lot of the people who work here now are wonderful, but being driven away due to policies above the local office management, and the CEO makes actual hate comments about people. I love working with the population, though it is near impossible to do anything less than enable those who do not want to do better for themselves, so it is a headache. Lots of work, lots of stress, lots of people leaving; fired or high turnover in general. They don't get you for performance though, it will always be a technicality, or a accident.

Flexible work schedule, mostly.  Current housing market proves very difficult to find housing for population served, but not impossible.  Grant money always changing and directly affects capacity of assistance - has resulted in client removal from hotels and directly back to the streets/woods; can be difficult to do.
Management struggles greatly with transparency, sincerity in regards to client plights was questionable at times, "required" to clock out and be off-site if you smoke (Yes, even if actively working during that time), entire company is very..."clicky" and unfortunately untrustworthy as a result.

Truly is a rewarding position to locate and obtain housing for those individuals/families actively sleeping outside is biggest perk!  Just know, clients by and large do not embrace opportunity afforded to them and typically will squander it due to high caseloads reducing quality of ongoing case management services.

Focus on the clients/job and not inner-office politics Highly recommended.

The staff is unprofessional towards clients, yelling at them & talk to them about other clients, but all staff goes along with it and they cover one another. Including management covering their favorites. Staff at the time did not have social service education and disappointed the the two who did did not speak up but went along with the toxicity. Staff is delusional and subjective, making up claims about clients with no substanial evidence and supervisor goes along with it all. No objectivity. But they all boast about how great they are with working with clients but they are more concerned with their egos and the appearance of them doing good work but not really doing anything impactful for the client. Again delusional. I dont understand how these heartless people were hired to help the homeless. 

I saw both good and bad at SVDP. Some people were very welcoming, while others never said hello.  My training involved several self-guided webinars, many of which I'd seen at another agency. They were basic social service principles but had very little about my specific position. Without good leadership, I was left in the dark to figure my job out on my own. 

I do believe that SVDP is a great organization but they really need to take stock of their employee needs. Case managers and housing specialists care and want to do the best job possible to improve the outcomes of the people they're  charged with assisting. 

You will be sent to St. Pete often and short notice. All learn there never applies locally. Management is useless and disrespectful. Turnover is terrible. If someone is still there past 6 months it's because they have no other choice and are probably also looking to change. Their solution to the poor management was to get rid of the staff so they can bring in their personal friends. Don't even dare try to address concerns with anyone in the organization about the local issues. They reprimand you and threaten to fire you. Too much politics and misinformation for the program to work. 

This place has to be the worst place I have ever been employed by. There have been endless demands and constant changes to the point where workers are unsure how to proceed as they must keep going backwards.  Management can care less about employees. They are all about firing people. They target people. Run fast away from this company. Awful place to work. 

No room for advancement supervisors will block it if you make them look good. Poorly ran from unprofessional CEO all the way to the county offices. There is no standard operational procedure so no one knows what the other is doing. Meetings that go nowhere. zero care for higher acuity vets stuff them in EHA can CYA. Brag about raising millions in extra funds then deny yearly raises for everyone. Toxic is being nice.HR is a joke that will help spread lies and rumors about the employee faster than the office staff.

I went back to work for this company after being gone for just over a year. The new management is horrible and I was told when I started back up there quote from the regional manager what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas in other words if you talk to upper management about the corruption in the office they will lie and fire you. I loved that company before but now with the new management they brought in from the housing authority and all their friends why followed are bad news ! So many violations  and don’t care about the clients! Beware stay away the work environment is toxic 

Working for the agency hasn’t been great but assisting the clients and supporting them from day one they walked in our door to the day they got into housing has been such a blessing, I loved ever moment of it. 

Plan to work a 50 hour workweek. Overtime is approved but pay is low to begin with. They will also flex your time if needed for personal appointments such as Dr. There was little training for the actual job that you will be working and had to be self taught through trial and error.  Working with and helping homeless veterans be housed was very rewarding and that was why I was there. If it’s not your passion tho I don’t recommend it. The office environment was very gossipy and backstabbing.
