When I first worked there, the mission of the PYP program and structure was palpable and it seemed like everyone was on board with it. I absolutely loved working there; teachers were given autonomy and were able to accomplish their mission of immersing students in the target language, as well as teaching global social skills as a by-product. When management changed, it went from an international school to a micro-managed institution and teachers and students were treated as “means to an end”.

SLLIS is a great place to learn about different cultures and languages for the children in St. Louis City. The families can choose their kids to learn one of the three options as a foreign language: Spanish, French, or Chinese. The school is growing and has a lot to improve in regard to management. The amount of work is overwhelming, and the students' behavior is challenging. However, the school is making efforts to improve the work environment for their teachers so their teachers feel valued and supported.


My role is in the Central Office, so I get to work with the Superintendent and Board of Directors very closely. I have found the current leadership to be very caring and hold a consistent student-first mentality. The admin team works very well together and the teaching staff is very high-quality. I love the diversity and emphasis on taking care of your teachers so they can take care of the students.

From what I’ve heard, they have done an overhaul of leadership and made many positive changes in the last few years. This has been the happiest work environment I’ve ever experienced. Coworkers and leaders are kind and supportive. The experience of working with individuals from so many different cultural backgrounds is interesting and exciting. I genuinely look forward to going to work every day. I’m so glad I found this job!

The classrooms lack resources, the administrators are unorganized and there’s an overwhelming sense of chaos in the building. Teachers  have to travel flights of stairs to use a restroom or have access to a break room. 

SLLIS is a nice place for kids to be exposed to different cultures and learn another language. Hardest part about the job is having to manage a wide variety of kids emotionally, behavior wise and academically. The most enjoyable part is being able to help and make a difference in these kids lives. I learned to have more patience and a better understanding for kids.

This school keep adding rediculous extra work to teachers with no extra pay and keep editing school policies for their own benefit. Staff are forced to go to work before and after contracted hours for numerous meetings. This school is horrible with finance, spending money in useless places and cut off budget for things that actually matter. 

This school used to be a positive place to work at, but the last couple of years it has gone downhill tremendously. There was always more work to do and less time and support to do it. 

The environment is quite overwhelming. Teachers are nice and supportive though. Teacher needs to be around the students the whole day except for special class time and lunch break. But if it’s indoor recess, you have to watch your students in the classroom or the gym.

The school has an excellent culture! Most of the staff has either moved her from a different country or has experience traveling abroad which makes working here unique and exciting.
