My stint at Standard Chartered Bank has been great which gave a tremendous boost to my career growth. SCB has the world-class work culture, policies and the management process.

The best thing for fresh graduates in this organization is their International Graduate Program. This program gives you the opportunity to go around the world where SCB holds significant market share for short term assignments and class room training. During these assignments and training classes you get to interact with over 50 diverse nationalities which are also there as part of this program. You also get to interact and conduct projects with the most senior executives of the bank which gives a lot of exposure to you as an individual. The program is designed to make you go through three departmental rotations within the country where you get a chance to develop understanding of three different business functions. By the end of the program you are able to identify your strength and start working for the the department where you performed the best. I feel proud that I was part of the same program at SCB.

My recent position at SCB was Senior Credit Analyst in the Medium Enterprises Segment. Daily work routine included developing quality proposals for Senior Management to document evaluation of risk, lending and collateral options, and recommendations to ensure client meets risk standards. I communicated heavily with clients to understand business model, gather key company information and other inputs for performing a risk analysis, and negotiate deal requirements. Key responsibility included supporting Relationship Managers to structure a risk and revenue management plan and offer credit solutions to clients across various industries including pharmaceutical, automobile, textile, edible oil, etc

Co-workers were the best part of my job who are very friendly and work as one team. Long working hours is a part of culture at SCB Pakistan which I think needs to be changed over the time.

In my time in SC as both a contractor and a direct employee I've experienced majority great things.  The people are wonderful to work with and support, with very little ego involved.  Being a financial institution, you definitely have to ensure quality support,  and also quick turn around on delivering said support, which I am used to providing.  
The perks were pretty nice, pre-pandemic lockdown.  We're talking lunches on the customer floor, company sponsored events, get togethers where may of the people I supported would fit the bill, and the awesome xmas party.
If I had to put a con to it all it would be that trying to figure out some procedures could be a pain, simply because much of the repetitive processes are not properly documented, especially for new hires.  You are many a times thrust into the fire to learn on your own.  It's not that big of a deal, but I feel it does waste time having people figure out steps that have already been figured out.  Imagine every person having to figure out the combustion engine just to drive a car.  That's how it feels some times.
Other than that, there is very little to complain about.

SCB was a great place for many years.  Serious financial issues created a toxic atmosphere and significant job cutting.  The bank culture has changed with long term employees leaving or being let go.  The banks strengthen has always it's history and that history has given way to hiring short term employee's not interested in building internal or external relationships.   It's very hard to accomplish anything for clients when global teams refuse to engage or communicate as they're looking for their next career move.  

Due to the banks primary location in Asia, hours can be long if you work in the US.  The bank is very diverse and the people on the ground in the Asia, Africa and the Middle Eats are very respectful, smart and great people overall.  The best part of the job was making life long friendships around the world.  Dealing with so many cultures and so many different markets every day makes SCB an excellent place to learn about the world and yourself.    

Management at the CEO level is very good as the change introduced to right the ship is sound.  The middle management is horrific and is unable to execute even the simplest changes as part of the turn around plan.  They are too focused on saving themselves and show zero loyalty to good employees.

o	Qualified in Investment Caesar 2009 as best Relationship Manager Pan India and got overseas (Europe- Budapest & Austria) convention opportunity.
o	Qualified in Investment Caesar 2010 as best Relationship Manager Pan India as well and got overseas (New Zealand) convention opportunity.
o	Being Relationship Manager in Priority Banking, I am responsible for managing the relationship of HNIs (Priority Customer) and giving them the best service.
o	Along with managing Priority customers, also responsible for managing and serving to NRI customers.
o	Responsible for acquiring Current account, savings account and selling of Mutual funds, Insurance, Credit card, forex, Mortgages, Business Loan, personal loan etc from Priority resident customers as well as from NRI Customers.
o	To provide advise on Fund Allocation in Portfolio through Need Based Selling with the help of Personal Financial Review.
o	Monitoring and re-balancing the portfolio as personal needs and market conditions warrant
o	I have been the consistent performer through out the standard chartered carrier and recognized so many times for the same.


I would not recommend Standard Chartered Bank as a place to grow your career. The culture is deeply flawed—riddled with favoritism, cliques, and a lack of transparency. Leadership turnover is constant, with frequent reorganizations and inconsistent expectations that make it difficult to perform your role effectively.

There's a noticeable lack of accountability, and many teams suffer from poor communication and internal politics. Unfortunately, the environment can feel two-faced, with backstabbing behavior normalized in some circles.

Rather than being supportive, the work culture is unstable and reactive—demands shift with little notice, and support from management is often lacking. Many talented people leave, and the revolving door of staff speaks volumes about the true employee experience here.

If you're seeking stability, respectful collaboration, and a clear growth path, this may not be the right place. 


I upgraded my sales skills as a direct sales agent in this International bank ,on this job i held a post of a Direct sales agent,i meet clients one on one, relate with them professionally regarding their financial needs from opening account with the bank for easy establishing a business relationship, ,I also ensure operational risk are avoided,I ensure proper documentation is done on all accounts I brought in  before it is processed and finally till the clients loan is disbursed,I also refer other bank products-insurance to new and existing bank customers
It is really wholesome experience working for Standard Chartered Bank,I learnt with my personal determination and marketing skills i took advantage of the situation to gain leverage in the negotiations,I also harness these skills:customer service skills,problem solving skills,i detest it when i have not met my target at the middle of the month however I enjoyed that process to closing deals.

On a typical day of work there was always interaction with other departments within the bank. I learned a great deal within the investment bank industry; from managing pertinent investment banking data to dealing with clients on a daily basis. Supervision was very minimal so; only of the ongoing project status. There was a great deal of interactions with co-workers as far as validating the accuracy of the information being submitted to internal and external clients. The most difficult part of the job was training the staff from overseas, due to the fact of differences of global professional views. But in the long run, that experience became a learning curve. In conclusion, the most enjoyable part of the job was the exposure to financial instruments; whether it was within the Forex market or dealing with equity and derivatives. So, in the end I hope this can serve as a stepping stone and step forward for my career.

At standard chartered bank, employees are typically overwhelmed with clients services. However, this situation becomes an easy task as employees team up to work diligently and effectively. Teamwork makes the dream and goal achievable. An orderly conduct  and coordination among workers with specific duty is a hallmark of management skills.. An energizing work ethics inspire employees to perform beyond expectation. Employees are required to work beyond the stipulated time when the hall is flooded with customers before banking door closes. The relief is a sign of joy when all customers are fully served and satisfied at the end of the service. Inability to get flexible hours was a thorn in my flesh but  best employee accolade at the end of every month was a personal booster.

I primarily work with the Transaction Reporting Unit of the United States (TRUST) for all Dodd-Frank traded products. As part of the Transaction Reporting team, we had to make sure that SCB was compliant with all Dodd-Frank reporting requirements as detailed by the SEC and CFTC for all OTC derivatives (Credit, FX, Rates, etc.) My responsibilities were also involved with downloading daily reports and valuations from the Global Trade Repository (GTR) and reconciling all trades and making sure that all breaks and exceptions were investigated, actioned, and closed on a daily basis. We would proactively monitor any queries and be in contact with department heads for any issues or questions in relation to Dodd-Frank transaction reporting regulatory requirements.

A typical day at Standard Chartered involved interacting with clients, analyzing portfolios, coordinating with treasury, and preparing investment proposals. I learned how to navigate complex financial products, manage risk, and tailor solutions under pressure. Management was generally supportive but also target-driven, which pushed performance. The workplace culture emphasized professionalism, client-first thinking, and global collaboration. 

The hardest part was aligning regulatory requirements with commercial objectives across jurisdictions. The most enjoyable part was advising clients, solving complex financial problems, and being recognized for creating real impact.
