A typical day at  the pre-school for me, well I have to be energetic, fun, loving and  alert throughout the entire day. That goes without saying. Well there is a balance between co-workers most of the time, its important to be flexible because of all the diversity. A team effort goes a long way. It's been calculated that the hands on experience outweighs the yrs it takes to become book smart. The hardest part of the job is to say good bye and good luck as each child leaves out the facility to begin their academic journey through life. The most awesome part of the job is when I hear the voice of a small child saying.....""Look I did it"  after I have encouraged and guided them in their learning experiences. I think the most important thing I have receive from my work experience is: that everyone has special abilities and talents, it's important to allow each individual to give what they can, and  to be a part of the team. Management is vital. They are our leaders. co-workers should be able to call on them when we need direction and  leadership. They are like a traffic light  at a busy intersection.

SCCAA has many different programs, and the directors work well together to support the cumulated needs of the community. If I were to ask any supervisor to help with something, I would receive support and the resources needed to assist my clients. We have a steady work schedule with great benefits and fair pay. 

I have learned to network with other community service based agencies to assist my clients with family and individual needs. We have periodic trainings to learn about all the resources the agency has to offer, as well as opportunities to discuss accomplishments and development opportunities. My immediate director is very transparent in expectations and helping her staff meet those goals. 

The Agency's directors are easily some of the most caring, hardest-working people I've ever had the privilege of working along side to help people. 


You have to sit in a garage for 10 hours. You do 3 runs a day, morning pick-up. Sit for 3 hours in garage then go get morning kids take them home & pick-up afternoon kids. Sit 3 more hours then get afternoon kids and take them home. You are not allowed to sit in your car. You drive through bad neighborhoods. The preschoolers all get seatbelted in, there is a helper on the bus.
It's 4 days a week. The supervisor I had was rude but I think there may be a new one. If you miss work it does not matter if you have a doctor's excuse they still hold it against you. Lots of paperwork even while driving. The parent or someone who is authorized has to sign the child off of the bus. If there is no one (which happens frequently) you have to take the child back to the school. Low pay, not very good benefits.

High turnover rate with intake workers, due to low pay in comparison with job responsibility. The PTO program is just ridiculous. If they want to get rid of you, they will. Can be a very "clique-y" environment. Management has no real respect for the employees. High stress job with very little - to none - recognition from management or upper management on a "job well done." Very quick to point out areas of improvement, but not so much on the "here's where you're doing well..." It's a good job for people who want to get experience with a local agency, or to work with a state-funded program, but this does not come with county or state benefits or pay. No where to move up within the agency; most internal job changes are lateral. 

A typical day consisted of enrollment,family services,supervising 42 staff and observing the clasrooms. Ensuring upper management that the liscensing regulations were being followed as well as step Up To Quality. I also maintained and supervised janitors,transportation and nutrition staff.

The hardest part of my job was to explain to a parent that their child was on a wait list knowing the child did not have any other opportunity to attend preschool.
The most enjoyable part of my day was when I observed the class rooms and assited and coached the education staff to incorporate hands on learning through play.

The overall rating will not accept anything but one star-I rate it at 3 stars.

They really could care less about their employees the best thing about working there was the day I left! So much high school type drama come on people aren’t we suppose to be setting examples for the children? There is definitely favoritism among management and employees you’re either accepted or they force you into resigning! The benefits were great however don’t waste your money paying Union dues they’re useless as well. I have NEVER worked for a company as pathetic as SCCAA

Work is very busy and never dull. There is always something to do. I work well with all the managers I have been under. I know my job, and it gets done well and efficiently.
The hardest part of the job may well be some of the staff. We are a unionized organization and I work at the center with all the union officials. Some think they are your boss.

The children are so sweet and I have made many friends. I love going to work and getting out on time. When I need a day off it's never and issue. A chance to advance in the company is also offered.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Large working area and there are a lot of resources offered.

Either over worked or sitting idle for weeks at a time. Supervisors micromanage the good employees and do nothing to the unproductive employees. The dress code is too strict along with the rules & regulations. Poor pay & poor pay increases. It takes 6 months to receive a 90 day review.

Taught for Head Start. Very hands on, love working with children, needs to be dedicated to the service and be ready to help others, pay was best for Early Childhood in the area, but it is still lower paid than most entry level businesses.
