The work often felt reactive rather than proactive. Repetitive tasks were common due to insufficient documentation and forward-thinking planning. A significant portion of time was dedicated to urgent problem-solving, which limited opportunities for more substantive work.

The thing that really got to me was how decisions would come down at the last minute from my perspective, and suddenly everything was urgent. You'd scramble to make it work, but when something went wrong, there was a tendency to assign blame rather than focusing on root cause analysis and preventative measures. Many of these challenges could have been avoided with different approaches to planning and communication.

 I did learn a lot about working around obstacles and keeping things running when the direction wasn't clear. And occasionally you'd get to tackle something that actually mattered, which felt great. But those moments were pretty rare.

Management operated with a highly hierarchical structure and seemed to lack a deep understanding of technical complexities. Decisions were often made without sufficient input from those with direct system knowledge, leading to foreseeable complications. It made trying new approaches feel risky rather than rewarding.

If you're someone who wants to think strategically and help shape how things work, you might find it limiting. But if they've brought in new leadership since I was there, that could change everything. 

•	Accurately respond to phone inquiries on member account activity and/or credit union programs, services, policies, and procedures using appropriate reference materials and software applications
•	Perform all follow-up activities associated with phone calls following established procedures
•	Cross sell products and services to regularly achieve established sales goals
•	Track sales/referrals following established procedures and using current methodology
•	Process member transactions/requests including but not limited to: transfers, check withdrawals, loan payments, Visa Platinum payments, stop payment orders, printing statements, identifying checks which have cleared, checking account balances and availability of funds
•	Attend and participate in department meetings and training sessions, as scheduled and incorporate newly acquired skills into daily activities
•	Deliver superior quality service so that member needs are met on a consistent, positive basis

On a typical day at work, I go through challenges everyday due to the questions members ask.  It is a fun learning experience because this is my first financial institution and this credit union has taught me the difference between credit unions and banks.  I also learned how to cross sales and understanding members problems and goals financially.  The workplace culture is diverse and I a lot of our members were Foreign Service Officers.  The challenging part of this job is explaining to members that we are not for profit and banks are for profit.  This is challenging because some members think we are here to take their money versus trying to help them save money.  The most enjoyable part of this job is the great team work because we work as a team to give the best service to our members.

I currently work at one of the Branches and the environment and climate is horrible. You are underpaid and Management does care about you. When you first start everyone seems so nice, but they gossip like children, and managers are incompetent. I wouldn't recommend for a seasoned or mature individual. Semi easy to move up if you go to back office...its a rotating door because someone is always leaving but branch wise its harder. Managers have picks and show favoritism especially the Managing Director of the Branches. If you take the job just stay focused and don't get into drama, and find a better job after six months, 

Fielding phone calls from members regarding past due payments, negative balance and offer assistance to those member with financial difficulties. 

I have learned to be more sympathetic and empathic to our members and their financial distress.  

The hardest part of the job is listening to members who are having financial difficulties and not being able to help with any of our programs.

The most enjoyable part of the job is being able to help and offer assistance to those members with financial problems by informing them of options that may best suit their financial needs.

I have had tons of jobs and this one is by far the best. I have a great manager and co-workers who really work as a team to get the job done. I started as a teller and am now a Member Service Representative/Teller Hybrid. A typical day includes opening accounts, booking consumer loans and credit cards, and assisting members with any issues they have with their accounts. I regularly work on Wire Transfers, IRA transactions, replacing debit cards, submitting disputes and claims of fraud and forgery. I work closely with all back offices in order to assist the member in any need they may have.

Crossed sold Credit Union products including but not limited to HeLOC's, Car Loans, Financial Planning, New
memberships, & Credit Cards.

I started with SDFCU when I was early in my career.  I experienced opportunity and growth throughout my employment.  They supported me during my search for a Master's Degree and I felt honored to do my best for them.  My employees made my job easier and I did my best to make sure I was there for them.  Most are still there running departments and celebrating over three decades of employment with SDFCU.

SDFCU is a great place to work with great benefits. My co-workers are very friendly and fun to work with. Thney are also very helpful. A typical day will have me helping borrowers, co-workers, managers etc. I get my work done in a timely manner. I do not consider my job hard or easy as it changes every day. The buisest time of the month is the ending because we have to transfer all loans to mortgage servicing.

I enjoy working for State Department Federal Credit Union. I have been there for the last 8 years and I have been offered the opportunity to move from a call center representative to a trainer. I have also been allowed the amazing opportunity to be a subject matter expert on 2 of the recent projects that we have/ are implementing.
