I have worked for station casinos for 4 months now.I started my tenure as an on call host/cashier then became full time when I won a shift bid recommended to me by a co-worker & trainer & so it began.Let me begin by saying that if you want a casual,laidback,workplace,run away...I have not had a job that had this many ridiculous rules & regulations in my lifetime & I'm 34 years old.First off,let's start with the absurd no late attendance policy they actually think is fair.Now,being late because your lazy is one thing,but life happens sometimes & we as humans must adjust depending on circumstances.So if you happen to be a stellar employee with a spotless record & one day find yourself with car trouble,cant find an available sitter for your kids,run into an unexpected road closure due to construction or a car accident you are well on your way to being toasted.Dosent matter if you call ahead to let them know you'll be 5 minutes late due to factors outside of your control,you can rest assured your department manager will be awaiting you with a pen to document your tardiness & a knife behind their back to stab you with later.Their beyond the best slogan should be changed to you could be next the way they hire & fire employees like a revolving door.I literally met people on their 3rd tenure with stations because you can be re-hired after after 30 days if your offense wasnt entirely grevious.Constantly stressing over when guests could use their coupons since the promotions changed almost weekly & half of the managers would need to refer to one another to come up with an answer,that if was wrong,could get you fired,hooray for teamwork!And haven for bid you get a grave shift,if you need help or direction,your on your own since most of the managers leave around 10 p.m. & then they elect someone from the kitchen to take over managerial duties,who cares if their qualified,right!?So they give you a walkie & tell you to call the one in charge if you need help,who knows how long that could take since the chef has his own set of problems to deal with.Totally enifficient,we did not get a grave manager until my 3rd month there & I never got to work with him even once since apparently he was still being trained when we desperately could have used him on the shifts he was being trained to take over.What were they preparing him for,his coronation???I worked hard with some awesome co-workers who always helped me when I needed it even if I didnt ask,they really had my back & I appreciated each & every one of them.But at the end of the day we deserve a better employer who judges us not by the clock but by our honest morals & hard work,we got to know people by name because they were regulars,some would even ask about us personally & it was a nice feeling to build those relationships not just as casino guests but as people.Overall stop obsessing over the tiny details,station casinos,if your employees are bringing in repeat customers to your buisness,you found a keeper,if they drive them away you cut them loose,but stop judging us on micromanaging guidelines & see as real people with lives who make mistakes but can learn from them & be better because of it.

Working at Durango Hotel has become increasingly frustrating due to certain leadership’s lack of awareness about the flow of the casino and staffing needs. For example, when the casino is busy, certain managers understand the need to adjust staffing levels and will allow servers to leave early when their section is slow. However, there’s one leader who consistently refuses to let us go, even when it’s obvious our section is dead. Instead, we are forced to stay in areas with little to no business, which results in wasted hours and lost potential earnings.

The issue becomes especially clear when there are stark differences in business across the casino floor. One side of the casino might be bustling with customers, while the other is almost empty. While some managers adjust staffing accordingly, the same leader insists on keeping us stationed in slow sections, costing us tips and contributing to unnecessary labor costs for the hotel.

Additionally, there are times when leadership seems out of touch with the daily operations. For example, there have been moments when staff were asked who was on break—something a leader overseeing the floor should already know. It’s surprising to see this level of disconnect, especially since being aware of such basic details should be part of the job.

While many of the managers are efficient, pleasant, and well-organized in managing their teams, there’s a noticeable shift when this leader is around. Instead of supporting the staff and creating a positive atmosphere, the micromanagement increases, which leads to unnecessary stress and tension. The contrast between the supportive managers and the more controlling leadership style is stark, and it negatively impacts the work environment.

A more flexible and informed leadership approach, one that recognizes the strengths of the managers and supports the staff instead of micromanaging, would greatly improve the work environment and enhance the hotel’s overall efficiency.

A typical day at Durango in housekeeping is 7-10 check outs EVERYDAY it's like they letting these people come for just ONE NIGHT *supposed to be a two night minimum* anything to make their money back lol management really act like we're robot's and don't ever need to call off, their point system is nothing but a set-up for you to be fired because it takes a whole year for ONE POINT TO FALL OFF  so they have the housekeepers scared to call off, they don't accept doctors notes so what are we suppose to do when are sick or dealing with a family emergency and need a couple of days off?? We don't make enough money to be put under the type of pressure they put on us to get the rooms cleaned we are not allowed to drop any rooms!! Swing shift doesn't do anything but "turn down service" while the daytime people have to miss lunch on a daily basis just to finish those rooms, front desk is always rushing room's we honestly can never get a break at Durango. Working on the strip was easier than this!!!! Making MORE money to deal with LESS stress and being overwhelmed with nothing but check outs. Management doesn't know how to talk to their employees, they don't show any type of appreciation. I wouldn't recommend anyone to come work in their housekeeping department, they won't let us transfer to different departments they're trying to keep us only in housekeeping... So many people have came and gone Durango is like a revolving door soon as they hire a few housekeepers, they get a taste of the rooms and the workload they put on us a few days later THEY QUIT!!  They charge us $15 every two weeks to eat lunch at work which the food isn't always that good..

When you first start at Station, it's a nice place. Though the more time you spend here, the more you see it for what it really is. The despair is palpable. If it is slow, it is a drag, and many employees get bored quickly. There are no sick days. If you take one, you get points, and you have twelve to last you the whole year.
Another thing to note is how much they drill into you that it's a nice place or that it's a "family"—nope. Almost no raises exist, if any at all. Some employees have been here for years without seeing an extra penny.
People here only gain joy from interacting with others, but the workplace weighs them down. Add to that the whole mess, and employees can't really escape the situation they are in. This creates the perfect mix for a toxic 
workplace in the worst ways.
There are some nice people that work here, but unfortunately, the casino tends to bury them quickly because it is so suffocating. A coworker of mine was bullied out by a manager after working here for seven years. Another was let go for no reason and immediately replaced. High turnover is apparent, and you are just a number. New employees do not stay long because they see what is happening and bail.
The one I worked at was infamous for what I stated above. If you know, you know. I feel sad for being so naive, to be honest. Wish I knew about its reputation.
Also, good lord, they can't help but play the same 40 songs forever too. Conditioning of sorts.

What is the best part of working at the company?
insurance is ok, better than most places

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The customers are rude and uninformed.   Management and ownership does not care about anything but money

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very poor.   Chairs are worn out and not fit to sit in.   Other chairs do not reach up to the counter so we have to stand all day.   Copy machine is older than I am.  The counter is the original counter from 1956.   The drawers and windows do not line up.   The company does not care about the customer or the employees.    They are still making 85 million per month.   That is all they car about.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I show up at noon.    Try to make copies for the games coming up, yet most of the time the copier does not work so I spend the next hour trying to fix it.  Then customers start to come in and complain that the TV's dont work right and there are no sheets.   After writing tickets for the next four hours, standing the whole time, I finally get a ten minute break.    Then the next set of games start and I supervise or write tickets, again standing for the next four hours before I get to have a 30 min lunch break.   After lunch it's cashing tickets while standing for the next two hours before I get to close things up and go home about 11pm.

I worked for a Station Casino property last year. I waited to post a review because I wanted to give a chance for everything to cool down. But even 10 months later, I can honestly say that this is probably the worst employer I have ever had.

This company is so full of lies it's a joke. They claim to be there for their employees but the reality is that they couldn't care less about them. They're all talk with empty promises and if you let them they will take advantage of you. If you try to stand up for yourself, they have no problem firing you. It's well within their rights to do, of course but their demands are unreasonable. They will overwork you and if you were about to say "that's fine as long as they make me full time," just know that it is next to impossible to be hired full time by them. They expect you to be able to multitask at ridiculous levels. Don't get me wrong, I expect a fair amount of multitasking working in a hospitality related job but no single human being is capable of doing all the things they want their employees to do.

There's a lot of shady stuff going on with Station Casinos. You are dealing with the worst of the worst as far as the people who work there and the patrons that go there. I would stay as far away from Station Casinos as humanly possible. I would avoid working there as well as going there.

Stations served high quality food and beverages.Staffing was always a problem in the buffet as upper management wanted long lines and people to go to another outlet. It simply made people angry.Stations is a large organization with a truckload of upward mobility, however, communication was a problem. The guests in the casino always seemed to have a good time. Most employees did their best to make guests comfortable. There were some design flaws in a few of the outlets, but we did the best we could, was honest with our guests and recognized them by name always.
Benefits with this company were exceptional, and when scheduling we did the best we could to accommodate all requests.It was run like a union, so there were many people in the casino who had been hired day 1.
In total, this company caters to the locals and does a great job of that. The nature of our business, however, has people moving to other properties. When there are changes at the top, well everyone has there pet peeves, ideas of how this or that must work. The staff does the utmost to adjust as best they can.

Working within the Human Resources department, both at the corporate and property levels, presents a highly challenging and competitive environment.

There is a noticeable resistance to modern HR strategies, and decision-making often seems rooted in outdated practices, leading to stagnation. The overall tone from top leadership is perceived as overly focused on internal politics, which detracts from their professional duties.

At the property level, HR Directors seem to operate with limited autonomy, often functioning as intermediaries who strictly execute corporate mandates. This structure results in employee relations decisions that frequently lack necessary local context, leading to outcomes perceived as inconsistent and unfair by employees.

Potential candidates should be aware that the company’s messaging about a collaborative, family-like culture is often misleading. The reality is a high-demand environment with excessive workloads and high stress. For HR professionals seeking a modern, strategic, and ethically consistent workplace, this organization's HR structure may be a significant deterrent.

Been working here for a few years, on-call status...do everything I can to set myself apart, but performance reviews seem to be thrown in the trash. Full timers get first pick on shifts regardless of skills/performance, and I never know how many hours I'll get. Constantly have to work past scheduled hours due to incompetent scheduling (having 1 person working on a saturday has happened...)

Management is a mixed bag, but all seem to have their hands tied by corporate, even in common sense matters.

Overly discipline heavy rulebook, put on final notice after missing 3 days in 4 months, 2 of which were medical emergencies with documentation

Payrate is good, but Ive had better...the rate doesnt mean much when you dont know if you'll have 40 hours or 20 in a week. Also you are heavily discouraged from having a second job while on call, and the always changing schedules make it next to impossible anyway. Because of this I am forced to be on foodstamps.

All in all, work here if you gotta, but keep looking, cause you aren't going to move up at all.

Management is horrible, they take care of people under their control and pick out ones that don't conform to their every wish... Corporate level management states they have a fun family oriented work atmosphere but only comparable to a 2nd uncle that no one likes that you would invite over for Christmas Dinner out of sheer pity. I have found quite a few good TM that are a pleasure to work with but equal amount that are hard to work with on daily basis. Management claims they have open door policy but only when its open to their opinion and not yours... Very stingy with any incentives to work harder... If a guest complains about someone in department and we add our side of the story our management throws us under the bus so to say and takes care of guests even if it was a by the book policy concern. Would not recommend this company to anyone... Management likes to hire back people that have repeatedly been let go for obvious reasons. Corporate always saying how they pay you highest in casino industry but whenever I compare to properties in city seem to be lowest even after raises...
