A typical day at SPS for me would be to operate the overhead crane which uses a magnet system. Sometimes I am required to use the other overhead cranes with similar magnet systems. I magnetize and lift heavy metal plates and place them on a burn table to be cut. After the burners cut parts from the plate, I dispose of the scrap and place parts where they need to be. I also perform various other tasks with the crane as well as help keep the warehouse clean by sweeping when needed. Other duties I have are stenciling and using the stencil machine to stencil metal plates we receive. I also drive a yard truck from time to time when needed.
        I learned a great deal of skills from this job. Such as how to operate multiple overhead cranes with magnet systems, how to stencil, drive a yard truck, and even how to use the burning machine somewhat. Management can be an issue from time to time due to lack of communication, but aside from that they are understanding for the most part. My co-workers are also very fun and friendly to work with. They provide the respect and help I need when asked. The most rewarding part of my job aside from just receiving a paycheck is being able to talk amongst my fellow co-workers during our lunch break as if they were my family.

This job can be stressful in times that it doesn’t need to be due to poor management. Like most jobs you’re treated like a number that can easily be replaced. 

Managers are quick to tell you “if you don’t like it here, it’s other places hiring”. Experienced it first hand. 

When others don’t do their job they will just pile the work load on you and expect you to do double the work for the same pay. 

If you try to voice your concerns it will definitely fall upon def ears. They will retaliate with unfair treatment towards the employees.   

The pay is a set pay regardless of how much work you do. NO ROOM FOR GROWTH HERE AT ALL!!! The job can be really great if the company would consider constructive criticism and grow from it vs. taking offense to it. This job is great if you’re jus looking for something to hold you over until something better comes along. 

Spent more than 5 but less than 10 years working here, new management came in and so did new rules. If you weren't kissing butt you weren't on the buddy list. The play is "Safety First" but when safety concerning issues were/are brought up nothing is done about them. Leadership is of the varying type, and jobs are threatened regularly. In my experience, the reason to work there was the feel of family on the shift i worked. If you are just looking for a pay stub and don't mind the overbearing nature it is an okay place to work, no real career advancement if you aren't playing to the higher ups but it brings in bill money. 

Storage and processors was a very fun place to work, we spent alot of our time there. Alot of waiting time, i unloaded trucks coming from ships, and separated the material after we unloaded the ships per company they were brought in for. It was alot of beams, channels, pipe, My co-workers and i hung out together alot, and my management usually did the same because we spent so much time together we acted as a small family and treated each other as such. There was really no hard part to the job except keeping up with the long line of trucks to load in the morning, once that was done the rest of the day was enjoyable.

I worked here for almost 24 years, I enjoyed being there, enjoyed my work and the employees were my family. I started working at 6:45 doing morning reports for the production lines in the warehouse and cash reports to management. I did the billing and the cash receipts. I always had special projects that I worked on. I had a great boss that understood my need to stay busy. My co-workers were my family, I knew them all. I have done every job that required clerical duties.

a typical day at work was usually 10 to 12 hours. I learned everything I know about steel this thru this company. I was part of management for long time (until buy out) and loved working here. it used to be a very laid back culture until buy out then huge changes came. the hardest part of the job was dealing with the different personalities of the drivers but for the most part it was great. the most enjoyable part of the job was working with the other employees, we were one happy family!

I have been a part of the Steel and Pipe team for 11 years.  For me, a vagabond at heart, this tenure speaks volumes to my level of satisfaction working for the company.  The Tulsa Service Center, based at the Port of Catoosa, is a great family-oriented, team building facility. If you are dependable, hard working, and driven you will be successful here.  

The most enjoyable part of my job is that my days are never the same.  It is like each new day is the first day; I never know what to expect.

This company is absolutely awfull.If you like working in a place were it feels like you are on your death bed this is the place.Worst experience in my life.You would be better off committing suicide then going to work there.This place is modern day slavery.Would not recommend it to my worst enemy.No future at all.I would rather suffer 100 deaths by torture then going back there to work.That place is pathetic.

Steel & Pipe Supply Co. Inc. is one of the best companies I have ever worked for.  I learned a lot starting as a receptionist and ending there as MTR Manager, assisting shipping and receiving, inventory control, taking over HR functions, Safety Assistant, Quality Assistant which in turn allowed me to travel with the company to perform inner company audits.  Their main focus was EVERYTHING, from beginning to END!

This is a great place to learn hands on. You will learn to operate a forklift, overhead crane, mi jack/ shuttle lift and this facility even has a processing department. It is very intermediate to advanced skilled work loading and unloading steel beams, plate, and bundles of various sizes of tubing. If you can learn to operate a forklift efficiently at steel and pipe you will succeed at any plant as a forklift operator.
