From the moment you walk in its pretty clear that its just a normal warehouse type job. You start at 4:30am and do cleanup from yesterday and then get sorted to your sections.
The few issues I had and that I could also see were time and management related tasks.
My number one issue which is almost the sole reason I left, they lied about the amount of hours I was supposed to work. I agreed to join in the company for four days of ten hour shifts and all I got were four to six each day. So instead of 40 hour work weeks, it was more like 20-25.

There are a few other things that just topped the icing:
I personally like harder work and have plenty of Warehouse experience but these are some small things that you may want to consider.

You have "tack times" as an unloader which is the amount of time you have to unload everything (Most warehouses have numbers you need to put out) but the times are barely reachable here at Steelcase at best. No one regularly hit the times and I do mean no one except maybe once in a while if youre lucky.  Also we get scolded and the management threatens write ups every time if you don't. Main reason you can't some of the time is that the lanes you are supposed to sort the materials in get backed up and they don't hire/promote enough tuggers for the shift. The only time I've seen everything run smoothly and clean (From type of trucks to tack time to lanes) was when Corporate visited and the management didn't have all the doors up and the ones that were up were the easiest trucks I've done there. 

The managers are consistently blaming the unloading crews for issues instead of finding way to actually improve workflow.
You will start out as unloading and they treat you worse than any other position.
Managers are always giving off discriminatory vibes to most of the employees anyway though.
 
You are on a point based system, you can call off if your'e sick but you get pointed and they don't fill your hours with your earned sick time after me asking multiple times to multiple managers in person and once after through a text when I had to stay an extra day off. This one hit me personally too like the low hours cause I have kids. 

The pay is decent I guess for warehouse work, seeing as average is like 15PH. Which you also only get the 17 if you are hired directly through the company like me, which they were starting to do only temps which made 15. 
They are also upfront with the job being physically demanding, but all warehouses usually are so it doesn't exclude them being ignorant or willfully ignoring that most of the work goals are unattainable or fixable.

If you're the type of person that can ignore the managers constantly giving you attitude, excuses, or don't mind hour cuts, unpaid sick time. Then go for it. 
There are a few perks to Full employees though, like 100 reimbursement program for fitness things, and 250 for steel-toe shoes once per year.

I do quite a bit of corporate troubleshooting. I had a recent request to investigate and resolve issue related to equipment reliability and associated work histories in order to maintain certification in one of our Model Shops and five of our Testing Laboratories. I researched the certification requirements. Investigated current state, outlined a project plan (resources, time-line etc.). Initiated the plan which is approximately 90% complete. I learned (and I find this to be very typical of such situations) huge communication issues. Lack of understanding of standards and associated processes and procedures. Lack of documented Standard Work, work/performance histories (No methodology to manage the process, quantify performance or trend and analyze process and equipment/system issues). Management in general were very supportive once I was able effectively communicate their current state and the deficiencies and associated solutions that were needed. As is usually the case (from my experience) that the people were qualified and more than willing to do the right thing. After I had a team of Trades people and Technicians bring the equipment back to a point of qualification and instituted standard work and associated training as needed I have no doubt that they will be in a position to autonomously sustain the equipment qualification, associated performance histories and thus their accreditation. I will monitor the process and procedural compliance over the next 6 months, meeting at least every 30 days with the managements staff to provide feedback and provide additional assistance if need be. The hardest part of the job (as is quite typical) was communicating to area management that the heart of the issue was the lack of sufficient management and communication in general. The best part was the amount of cooperation, the will to do the right-thing attitude, and their ability and openness to accept the change that these improvements required.

My time at Steelcase was marked by significant challenges across nearly every aspect of the job. Overall, my experience was highly unsatisfactory, reflected in the lowest possible rating of one star.
The work-life balance was severely lacking. There was a consistent struggle to maintain a healthy separation between professional responsibilities and personal life, leading to considerable stress and burnout.
The compensation and benefits package was also a major point of dissatisfaction. It felt uncompetitive and did not adequately value the contributions made.
In terms of job security and advancement, there was a palpable lack of stability and very limited, if any, opportunities for professional growth within the company. This created a sense of stagnation and uncertainty about the future.
The management was a significant source of frustration. Leadership was ineffective, and there were considerable issues with communication, support, and overall guidance.
Finally, the job culture was notably negative. The working environment was unpleasant, and there was a lack of positive morale and collaboration among colleagues.
In conclusion, my experience at Steelcase in Kentwood, MI was overwhelmingly negative. There were substantial issues with work-life balance, compensation and benefits, job security and advancement, management, and the overall job culture. I would not recommend this position based on my experience.

I arrived at the office and started my phone calls to the companies back east, such as Grand Rapids, Mi., Atlanta, Ga., and Montgomery, Alabama.  These companies closed their offices earlier as the time changes were in use.  All my planning was with them to get raw parts to make our parts in house.  We also made some of our own parts here. The latter part of the day, I would kind of cycle count and make sure my inventory was in good shape.  I worked with dispatchers, expediters, hirise operator to make sure everything I had was correct.  I did planning in stages.  We had jit  (just-in-time)
and we had parts locally made and in different plants. I was there till the production was in good condition to run. 
     I learned to plan, work with people inside and outside of the office and plant.  I think with this company with the family atmosphere made this company  a great  place to work.
     Management here was phenomenal.. They also helped with production when needed. 
     Co-workers, like I said were so great, as we were in a family atmosphere.  We did things together.  We had parties and just enjoyed one another.
     Making sure I had all the parts due in house to keep production going.  I had three shifts I was supplying so sometimes it can be a challenge when an order gets a drop in that the customer needed the next day... We always are on top of it.
     I just loved working there, it was fun and everyone was great.

A typical day at work first includes making sure that your work area is clean and well organized. To begin each shift, we had start up meetings to address any product issues and to discuss daily/weekly objectives. During the shift, I had to focus on the task at hand to ensure that each product was efficiently and effectively assessed. Mainly, I learned the value of hard work. Over three summer breaks in college, I held three different job titles. Truck loader, assembly line worker, and warehouse assistant. During my first job as a truck loader, I learned quite a bit about logistics. This experience was easily the most labor intensive because the truck's trailers reached temperatures of up to 110 degrees in the summer months. As an assembly line worker, I gained knowledge of understanding exactly how a product is ordered, created, and packaged. My most previous job as a warehouse assistant gave me a great understanding of how to process inventory. Throughout three summers, I worked with many different people. Most co-workers were eager to help me first understand my job responsibilities, and assist me whenever possible. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with co-workers. Each summer, I made great relationships with the people I worked with every day. The relationships I've built over the past summers will not soon be forgotten. I still consider many of my co-workers to be my friends.

As a Materials Supervisor, daily I monitored my employees in their duties of servicing, stocking, and maintaining inventory items for the production teams. We practices Lean Management Systems. During my 30 year career, I learned how to work with other departments interdependantly, whlie taking care of my departments needs, observing/maintain company goals, and working toward being a change agent within my company. i had developed a very strong relationship with my co-workers and have always felt as a negotiater of all and any situations that might come up, whether conflict resolution or inventory resolution. The hardest part of the job was maintaining a positive attitude while working through a plant closure, which meant making sure my employees accomplished daily, weekely goals, and keeping their morale at its top level to hold and continue a win-win situation at all times. The most enjoyable part of the job was meeting daily/weekly goals and knowing that my superiors and co-workers could always depend on me and my teams to deliver the best workplace solutions . 

A typical day was intense, from my vantage point. Over my career, I worked through the company in many different facets and every experience was involved, customer-focused, andeducational. Work days were hard yet fulfilling, processing work every day but also leading employees and teams to get the job done. Also being a leader and a role model, was a good fit. You had the ability to grow employees and hopefully, they learned things from you that will last a life time. Hard work is the equivalent to defense in sports- defense wins championships. Dealing with management was a two fold scenario. If you proved yourself and earned trust, you had full support. many of my co-workers were a close knit work family. We had bonded together through several years and I could depend on them to help me complete my goals and remain successful. Unfortunately, the hardest part of the job, was seeing our corporate idealogogy change from a family culture to a corporate culture. The most enjoyable part of the job was teaching an employee a plan, or theory, seeing them start to belive it, follow it, reach their goals, and then see them grow as an employee and individual.

From the time you start off in the warehouse, the imagery of a promising employment there is not so much in reach. Being very grateful for the opportunity in which to work for any company is my outlook. I tried daily to enjoy my job and do as I was told to do. 
But the lack of training throughout the building is so broad, their function and structure solely relies on the workers to know things on the fly. From the HR office at the facility, to the supervisor on the floor monitoring the continuous work of both loaders/unloaders. The lack of training is exposed simply because the facility doesn't take the proper time to accurately train and bring the employees to speed properly. Like I stated earlier. I'm grateful for any and every opportunity that I receive from any employer, but of course I do believe in fair treatment across the board in regards to employment in any organization. It may be different from an corporate stand point in that company but a deep regard to the treatment of every employee should be considered. Also, the biggest concern of mine really came from HR not getting things done and taken care of in a timely manner.

I really like Steelcase not a bad place to work. the people I work with are fine I get along with every one. It really is a place you can be proud to work for. I am treated with respect and if I needed help I got it. I wish they had sick days though I mean when you get sick with a cold and you don't want to spread it to others you take the chance of spreading it or it goes against you.I don't have an attendance problem  because of it though. I guess I have to say the hardest part is the parts that can weigh quite a bit at times. The best part is I stay busy so time goes fast. Steelcase is a great place to work. I would really like a chance to do try something els at a new place! They have a place that you can work out as well to keep your weight down if you want so they do care about your health. They also have a  person who can help you get back on the job if you get hurt so you don't have to see some one you don't know, that makes you feel more comfortable! I really do like Steelcase but I believe a change would do me good after all I do believe there is life other than Steelcase that could be just as good or even better!

A great place to work in the past, but the majority of the company has moved across the border, and unfortunately things are in decline locally. Most the workforce has aged to near or beyond retirement, with little of their knowledge being passed along, and the latest pay rates reflect this. Training is the "sink or swim" style, and getting paid what you're worth will take considerable effort from savvy individuals. The culture there is old school and stubborn thanks to the age issue, so don't expect innovation to move at the pace you would expect. The available work is very up and down from month to month, both due to sales and the industry itself. This leads to mass layoffs every few years, followed my mass hiring of unskilled labor, rinse and repeat. And I'm speaking about both the leadership in the offices as well as the factory floor labor. It can be very chaotic and unsupportive, but at the same time the work's often varied and constantly changing, which at least keeps things from getting too dull.
