Stern At Home Therapy

A typical day at work finds me seeing 5-6 people in their homes. Being in upper Manhattan, my commute finds me traversing Central Park on foot or on a bus at least once/day which is always a pleasant experience. The EMR is easy to use and developed by a physical therapist.  I appreciate the prompt response always provided to any questions and /or problems one encounters throughout the day.  Communication within the company is excellent and you feel thoroughly supported by the entire staff. There are checks and balances built into the system  to help you to be as efficient as possible, to learn as much as you can.  One of the best parts of home care is making your own schedule. It is also one of the most difficult and challenging tasks as one tries to optimize time and reduce travel while accommodating the requests of persons and their caregivers whose windows of availability can be  small.  Overall Stern at Home Therapy is a great company to work for!

Very flexible scheduling. You are in charge of your schedule.
Minimal traveling coordinators try  do try their best to assign patients within close proximity to one another to minimize driving time.
Collaborative Problem Solving! The administration takes feedback from clinicians very seriously. If there is an issue effecting clinicians and patient care, they implement solutions and assess outcomes of these solutions.
 Improvements to the company are ongoing. I started as the companies first hire on the Island . It has gotten substantially bigger; however, I never felt too big to where I did not feel my voice was not being heard.
I always feel supported in the field and valued as a human being. I do love my co-workers. 
They are very patient-focused. Ultimately doing what's best for the patient is encouraged.


What is the best part of working at the company?
The freedom and autonomy to make my own schedule and treat patients how I want without the unnecessary overhead burden from the higher ups in the company

Dealing with cancellations and getting everyone a time that works for them 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The job itself is very low stress which makes it so amazing. But as it is a home care position, seeing other coworkers can be a rare occurrence, however there is virtual help whenever you need it 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stress free day where I feel like I am being compensated for my skills and I can fully exercise my right to treat patients how I want

This job is very flexible and allows you to schedule and see your patients on a schedule that fits your individual circumstances.  I am able to see and treat patients in their homes and meet them where they are.  Treatments are individualized based on needs and environment.  Management and supporting office staff are pretty accessible in real time for any issues or concerns.  The most challenging part of the job is getting started and saying goodbye to patients when their therapy is complete.  The best part is providing the individualized care to each patient in their own environment for a true functional session all while doing so on my own set schedule.  It's like having your own business without all the headaches. 

Stern does start you out at a higher hourly rate than most companies in the area and with homecare, you do have flexible scheduling which has been the biggest benefit. At least on now 4 occasions I have had to ask for my pay to be corrected which has been a chore in and of itself to get the money that you have worked for. There is no advancement opportunities or raises, the PTO has been the same since starting with no advancement or accrual increase. They do put some money towards student loans monthly. The most recent issues with EMR changes has been the worst setup requiring hours of documentation with no pay for the extra work (you are only paid per visit). DME ordering is chaotic and response times from administration can be severely delayed at times. 

I've been working for this company for about 3 years now with much enjoyment and excitement about where the company is headed. I've been able to keep a busy schedule in my personal life thanks to the flexible working hours. From buying a home, to being able to pick up and drop off my daughter from daycare, working for Stern at Home Therapy has made a huge impact on how I manage my time. I love the fact that I can communicate directly with the CEO and have my thoughts and suggestions truly taken into consideration. All in all I've had a very positive experience in working for this company. 

The pay rate drew me in but I'm sticking around for the freedom to set up my own schedule and the generosity of the management. They offered a raise after 3 months, took us out for a top-shelf holiday dinner, and even sent me a birthday card and a Christmas gift! Who does that these days?! 

On the con side of things, there can be a bit too much freedom at times with limited communication/support from the DOR position and an apparent disconnect between upper management and HR which can make contract negotiations a hassle. If you're looking for a job with great health benefits this isn't it. 

Fortunately, my spouse should be taking care of that soon enough making this job about as good as you can find for an OT with only a couple of years of experience. Would recommend!

I have worked for many companies in the past and Stern is by far the best one. Flexible scheduling, understanding and supportive management, low micromanagement, good salary, and ability to grow. Truly a breath of fresh air in such a competitive environment that allows me to grow as a therapist. The onboarding process could be challenging and benefits could be better, but management and colleagues are always there to assist and it's clear the company is striving to grow and become better everyday and open to change. This company is great for anyone that values autonomy and growth.

My workdays are up to me, I can start and end on whatever schedule suits my week. The patients are so happy to be able to be at home but have quality therapists assigned to them. Stern has been a great choice for me, the flexibility of setting my own schedule is essential to me. The documentation system is efficient and easily accessible. The office staff are supportive and flexible with requests. I highly recommend for any clinician who is looking to supplement and balance more than one role and for anyone who has never experienced how rewarding therapy at home can be for our patients!

Typical day at work consists of outpatient therapy travel to Patient treatments, daily documentation on an easy to learn system , communicating with management, efficient time management, independent scheduling and ability to multitask is crucial . Most enjoyable part of my job is helping people achieve functional  goals, having a flexible schedule to balance my family life being able to take PTO when needed , having a boss that is genuinely appreciative for being a hard worker!
