StretchLab can be a good side gig for some extra cash, or a good first or second job for somebody 18-24. It's definitely not a career. It's an entry-level job, generally with no benefits or advancement opportunities.

PROS: The clients and Flexologists can be really nice. The stretching can really help people. Some studios give employees free stretches, although you may feel guilty about it as it typically requires having one of your coworkers do extra work for base pay (typically minimum wage).

NEGATIVES: The business model has some major issues. It relies on pushing people to sign up for a membership contract that they usually don't fully understand, and which commits the client to paying for 3-4 months no matter what, and then paying indefinitely until they cancel, which requires 31 days notice and you have to jump through hoops to make it happen. Some clients get very angry about this when they realize the full implications of what they've committed to. As a Front Desk employee, you don't have any flexibility to make exceptions to policy to provide good customer service, which requires you to be the policy enforcer. This sucks, especially when clients are super nice and have a legitimate reason for needing to get out of their contract, like if they lost their job unexpectedly and can no longer afford the three months they signed up for. Other times, a person might be in the hospital for a while and they're unable to cancel the membership, and yet they're still getting billed and we can't refund their money per the contract terms.

There are many ways the program could be improved, such as eliminating the three month minimum commitment, shortening the cancelation notice period to 14 days, and allowing clients to cancel through their online account, rather than having to come into the studio to fill out a form.

One other issue is that clients think they are paying for 4-8 stretch sessions per month, but in reality they are only paying for "credits", which expire at the end of the month. So it's really a subscription service that doesn't guarantee the client anything. If the client can only come in at 6:00 after work, and the studio has more clients that need those slots than they can accomodate, guess what, the client can't come in to use their credits, and they lose the credits they paid for even though it wasn't their fault that they couldn't use them. These kinds of issues are constant, and the person working the front desk has to absorb all of them, even though they have no power to do anything to help the client with these issues. You just have to sympathetically explain the terms of the contract to the client and let them yell at you or whatever.

Management likes to say there is potential for benefits, advancement, etc, but in the year and a half I worked there, that never came to fruition. I was doing the work of a Manager or Assistant Manager, but never got promoted and was paid just above minimum wage. There was even a period of time that a studio in our district had NO manager for six months, but I wasn't given the opportunity to fill in even as an Assistant Manager.

Also, the role is VERY heavily focused on sales and marketing. That includes a requirement to do a certain number of telemarketing calls every day, even though everybody hates getting those nowadays and it's a total waste of time.

Starting your shift, you get your own key to the studio since it's such a come and go job there may be a flex or 2 there but for the most part I had the studio to myself a lot. Nice tunes throughout the day, greeting members or accessing intros, setting appointments, making calls, logging info onto spreadsheets and logs or updating accounts. During closing hours after emailing a daily report to managers, I sweep every other day or so, restock essentials, dust and wipe off countertops then lock up. They have "pop ups" where they set up and work at local events and advertise our studio, only managers and flexes attend, the front desk associate won't get to go. Best advice, invest into your customer service until your social battery is low at the end of your shift, especially with intros - they are very important! Despite the management and personal experience, this was my favorite job because it helped me learn how to sell myself and build value in what I'm selling, really helped me attain knowledge and skills that will benefit me in what I want to pursue, this was a stepping stone job and taught me enough, despite the little time I got to be there, customers saw and appreciated my potential and that's what matters for business! My favorite part of this job was learning more about our practice and service, I enjoyed being able to explain it in a relatable way and help others feel comfortable to make an investment in themselves. This was always very beneficial for me as well! The hardest part of that job for me was seeing a missed sale walk out, you have to understand that you can't force people to apply and don't blame yourself. Just stay consistent and push because the most rewarding part of my job was getting missed sales rescheduled and selling them that second time around. Sometimes it may take a different approach as well, for instance I sold a membership to someone my manager couldn't sale, and probably vice versa as well. Reevaluate yourself and each time you'll learn something that'll make you better for the next sale! Unfortunately my time here was cut short, if anyone is familiar with the reference "I got Craiged" well, just remember this is a franchise guys, you can be valuable and still replaceable even in a sales position. They will keep tabs on your punctuality, flexoglists have been late on members & intros on multiple occasions, but if you want this position, 15 minutes early is on time, not 10, not 5. Be there 15 minutes for intros and it's best to make it a habit and stick to that schedule. I covered for my AM on my day off while I'm having to uber to work, my driver made a wrong turn and got me there 5 minutes early, the GM was there to dismiss me afterwards.

Cons:
Not guaranteed all hours originally scheduled, shift can be unpredictable because they have low clientele. Pay is 2x a month & takes 3 days on average to process into your bank after your set payday. There is not too much instructing and training due to distant management team. If you alternate shifts and locations there is no commute or business milage benefits - go through IRS to get reimbursed

Working at stretch lab is a regret. You start out with 4 hour shifts so if you don’t have a second job you’ll need to get one in order to stay afloat until you gain the clientele and your manager bumps up your hours to…wait for it… 5. Then 6 then finally maybe 9 hours with a one hour mandatory break. You have 10 minutes between sessions to write notes, read the next notes, go to the bathroom or do anything and if you go over time you have even less and it’s very easy to get behind and burnt out dealing with people one on one for 50 minutes each or even more people for 25 min sessions. If you’re not extroverted I would stay away from this work, it’s incredibly draining. Once you’re a flex you can stay a flex or become a lead and that’s the only other thing you can do there for growth. You get paid very little and there is no bonuses and you get paid half your session rate when you’re not in session. There was also no benefits and you earn 1 hour of PTO per 30 hours worked so if you were to work every single day of the year including holidays you still would get LESS THAN 10 DAYS of PTO so there is basically no work life balance unless you stick to 4 or 5 hour shifts and make very little money, which for a job that physically and socially demanding doesn’t make any sense, the owner did not care about his employees quality of life.  The clientele is generally older and not highly motivated and assume stretching is enough to be their “fitness.” Of course there are some great clients like all jobs. However if you didn’t like a client or didn’t jive with them I was told I am “not allowed to decline sessions.” Which, is absurd. I did learn some new things about anatomy from my lead who was very smart and left to start her own therapy business because of the poor structure at stretch lab. The hardest part though about working at stretch lab is nothing changes with clients because stretching simply isn’t enough to actually help anyone with anything serious, I equate it to massage, and it’s expensive! .You feel like a masseuse more or less. The best part of the job is building solid relationships with those cool clients you would hope to attain eventually. If you do decide to work here, expect low pay, no paid time off, no room for growth, and to feel frustrated with members and stuck in your role. 

When I originally started with StretchLab I was beaming about my job. I specifically went here part time, personally chosen by my manager. Within 2 months we were bought out by new ownership and the dynamic changed immensely. As a part timer I was one of the top performers in the franchise. I was quickly pressured to go full time with trips to other studios and overly encouraging words. When I did finally express interest in it I was told I would need to leave my home studio and go to another studio 30 mins away. I agreed as I knew they were opening another studio in the next year closer to my home. I figured I would have the opportunity to learn from the GM at that studio for 6 months to a year before being ready to take on the position. 12 days after I began at the studio the GM quit! I was thrown into all the GM duties without any other compensation or training. I continually asked for help with performance type metrics and was told to “pray about it” or “maybe” from my leaders. Ultimately I was docked for performance, even though I had never received the help I was as asking for. All in all the ownership group is amazing! They are kind, fair and compassionate! And for a franchise offer great benefits. Their issue lies in the leadership who has zero intent to personalize training, consistently throws employees in over their heads and leaves them to drown. Their consistent approach to addressing issues is to mull over things for months, have no discussion about the issue and then fire people without warning and completely destroying their character over what they believe with no evidence. I would definitely consider a job at McDonald’s over working for this franchise group until they reevaluate the people they place in their leadership positions

This job has done nothing but put a huge financial stress on me. They tell you that clients like it when you’re available more so they push you to have 30-40 hours of availability and hint that you won’t get clients if you don’t, but you’ll actually have clients for maybe 10-15 of those hours if you’re lucky just starting out. When I told my management I needed more clients because of needing to make more money they just tell you to do more outreach, which is essentially cold calling and texting clients and potential clients. This doesn’t actually help you unless the clients already planned on coming in. The only people at my location who are consistently booked with clients are the ones who have been there for 2+ years. Otherwise, you don’t have a chance. What they don’t tell you is that it really does take 1-2 years to build up a client base, but if you don’t have that kind of time to take a pay cut and build up your clientele this is probably not the job for you. This job is great if you have another way of making your main income, but otherwise you’ll be available for 30-40 hours and only actually come in for less than half of those because they will complain about payroll if you’re clocked in for too long without clients or cold calling. This job is great for anyone with a spouse who makes the majority of the money for your household. Otherwise, stay far away from this job. You’re also contracted for a year and have to pay back all training costs if you leave before you’ve fulfilled your year long contract (which there is also no proof of). They will lie to you and make this job sound much better than it actually is. Stay far away from this job and go to a more reputable company who will pay you adequately for the work that you’re doing.

Intensive training to become a flexologist is required before beginning work, after being hired. It is time consuming over many weeks and UNPAID, which they are not upfront about. All online work and written exam must be completed before a 2-day, in-person training and practical exam. It is very valuable, but the ability to get through this requires support from coworkers and manager. After passing the exams, it takes another couple weeks of required practice hours before being allowed to work with clients. StretchLab requires a bachelors degree specifically in a health/fitness field, yet only pay $12/hour when not actually working with a client. Helping the clients is the best part of the job and developing relationships with people, but this is not the part that employees are judged on. They encourage a competitive environment since pay is based on number of clients served and new clients assigned, which in my case meant backstabbing and clients poached by more experienced employees. Flexologists are expected to do a certain number of hours of sales and marketing per week, but that only is paid at $12/hour. This includes off site pop up events and cold call sales. Most franchises will have a receptionist, but at my location flexologists were also required to cover the front desk, make new sales, answer phone, texts and send email, plus orient new and potential clients, even when completely booked with back to back clients, which led to client dissatisfaction and distraction from focus on client service. 

Patiently sat through two 1 hour interviews where the friendly owners talked too much about themselves. Was there for a MONTH. I was hired full-time with promises of consistent hours and benefits—but reality didn’t quite match up. Instead, I averaged 16-28 hours a week and never qualified for benefits. If you’re looking for stability, this may not be the best place to find it.

Challenges I faced:

•	Evening shifts meant limited opportunities to earn commission.

•	Shifts could end early if the last client canceled, which meant less pay for me.

•	Since pay is largely based on bookings, there was constant pressure to fill slots.

•	Despite being hired full-time, my hours remained part-time, making benefits out of reach.

The work itself isn’t bad if you enjoy helping people feel better, and I had some cool coworkers who made the job enjoyable. Can’t say the same about the disrespectful leadership from the one of the flexes though…

The owner is friendly and encouraging, but long-term promises about hours didn’t seem to materialize. There were occasional perks like free lunches and snacks (a tactic to keep employees compliant), but at the end of the day, I needed a job with more hours, better pay, and actual stability.

Fortunately, I’ve moved on to something that checks those boxes and more. I definitely walked away more FLEXIBLE—both physically and in my expectations of job promises.

Would I recommend this job? If you’re looking for something part-time and commission-based, sure! But if you’re expecting full-time stability, you might want to STRETCH your job search elsewhere. ;)

StretchLab is a Franchise, and as such you have some owners who are VERY hands on, to the point of micromanagement, and some who are almost never there and don't support you. To be a flexologist, it's pretty straightforward. Complete online work, go to in person training, then stretch people. Compensation is fair for flexes, and you'll keep your job as long as you take good notes and keep the stretches fresh for your clients.

 I was a studio manager for the largest franchise owner in the company. I will primarily be commenting on that. The owners come from big box gyms so they're treating StretchLab like one. As a manager for a fairly new franchise, there is no work-life balance. You're salaried, but expected to work a minimum of 45 hours a week - and you can take 2 days off, but choose those days wisely because it is never the right answer. Have to work the 13-15th and 29-31st of each month for "closeout". You'll be submitting reports every evening and hopping on virtual calls regardless of your plans or if you're working. 

Sales, sales, sales. 50-100 sales calls each day. You will be trained as a flexologist as well, and you have to take a minimum of 40 intros a month otherwise you get a write up. Very competitive. Perk is that it pays well... and you have several different opportunities for bonus each month, based on how many memberships you sold or the Total Revenue your studio makes. It was exhausting and I've never been more stressed. Every month it just starts over...

This is a good place to work, if you honestly want a stupid easy job.Show up, do the stretched they specify, wipe down your table and leave.  If you want to actually help people, or have any knowledge or experience as a physio, kinesiology, bio mechanics or anything pertaining to basic human anatomy and physiology- do not work here. They don't care what you know, they want to essentially scare people via the squat scan into buying programs. 

Half of my coworkers either had no idea of basic anatomy *easy stuff that can be googled* and had no experience of stretching or handling everyday individuals let alone individuals who genuinely need facilitated stretching. The other half knew enough to be dangerous. No one followed scope of practice. 

Maybe I just had a bad team, but it was like high school. Everything was a big deal, no one would pull their weight, I was told multiple times by my superiors that I was too smart and basically needed to shut up so my coworkers didn't feel inadequate or stupid. When I would ask questions I would be met with static silence. When working with a trainee, they were not doing things properly and I ended up getting hurt and then I was in trouble when I called out because my management didn't take my notice seriously. Said coworker still works there though so that's good at least. No one would really talk with each other unless it was to talk bad about someone else. The best part of working here was quitting. 

I've learned that each Stretch Lab is run differently & I was dealt a poor hand with the owners of this franchise.

I love the skills I have developed and the comfortability I gained working with clients. I believe stretching is an essential aspect of maintaining a healthy balanced life so Im grateful to have achieved these life changing skills.

Unfortunately, working for owners that have no emphasis on client care is unethical, thus creating an uncomfortable work environment. I've been told to up sell clients to expensive packages so "you as the flexologist make more money and so does the business", is what I was often told.

Corporate provides a great 2-day training course that gives you a lot of faith in the company but unfortunately, the support & encouragement ends there. It's difficult to believe a corporation as well run as this, would allow franchise owners to destroy the atmosphere they have built. The base pay varies between locations but the one I work for starts at $12/hour + bonuses once you complete your 20 hour practical training.
With my particular location, we would maybe work 6 hours per week doing pop ups (during the never ending pre sale), stretching ONLY clients who scheduled an appointment, and NO walk ups. My owners would say "walk ups aren't in the mindset to buy", again thinking about the money & not my need to practice my skills.

I love what Stretch Lab stands for and I love what I do for my clients but with out a business owner invested in my needs & the clients needs, it makes for a toxic work environment.
