Working at Strive Health Services has been a rewarding experience. Every day is different, but it’s all centered around providing quality care to children and supporting their families. I’ve learned so much professionally while working here, and I truly feel like my contributions matter.

Management is approachable, supportive, and genuinely cares about both employees and patients. Whenever I’ve needed help or had questions, the office staff has been there to support me. The workplace culture is positive, team-oriented, and focused on doing what’s best for our families.

Like any healthcare job, there can be schedule changes or challenging days, but the office communicates well and works hard to make sure nurses feel supported. The best part of my job is building relationships with my patients and their families and knowing I’m making a difference in their lives. It’s a company that truly values compassionate care and teamwork.

I’ve been working for Strive for four months now and could not be happier! Pediatric home health has quickly become a field of nursing that I will be sticking with for years to come and Strive has made it so easy and worth the while. I cannot say enough good things about this company. The support from management and clinical staff is phenomenal. The schedule flexibility is a breath of fresh air. And little things like the sweet treats or a simple card to let staff know they are appreciated on a monthly basis is so wonderful. The only qualm I have was the new employee orientation. I feel it could have been longer and more informational, as I had to figure a few things out on my own, especially with being new to home health. But a simple phone call to the office for guidance was all that was needed to move in the right direction. I’ve quickly learned that the true reward in this field of nursing is the stress and worry you take off the families shoulders when caring for their children. It is so worth it! 

When I first signed on to work for Strive, I was new to the Austin area and wanted to work in pediatrics, a field of nursing I always believed would be my calling.  For the first couple of months, everything was working out fine and I enjoyed the time with my specific clients. 
 There was a good amount of miscommunication from the company about scheduling and resources that would be available on-shift, but I still enjoyed it.  Unfortunately, a family health emergency occurred 3 months into my job and although I tried my best to communicate what I  needed to continue my employment with this company while being present for my family, it did not work out in either of our favor.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The team. 
I have yet to meet a team member who is not abundantly kind, professional and  willing to go out of their way for other team members or patients. This company does not feel 'all about the money' as many other companies I have had experiences with. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
I have found that not being in an office surrounded by other professionals  makes getting advice or asking questions about the job/patients more difficult. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
positive, child/patient focused, supportive, involved. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I have the opportunity to make my own schedule based on my needs and my patients needs. 
My day typically looks like appointments from 10-5 with paperwork scattered in between or at home after.

Office staff DON always available to train in your weak areas without humility. They care enough to check on us out in the field to see how we are doing and are always available to answer any and all questions, if they don’t know they will find out, because someone has the answer. Pay is good/fair and actually paid to us. There are no stupid questions and constantly learning. Learning teaching is always available, skills lab located in office and DON always willing to train/teach. Videos sent upon request. Pay varies by each case, set schedules, able to move you to another case if you’re not a good fit with family (it’s never the kid). Initially feels intimidating or scary if you’re not sure youre comfortable with pedi but there’s a lot of support from DON and office staff. Overall a great bunch to work for/with. 

I’ve worked with Strive for the last year and a half and am only leaving because we have to relocate. I’ve loved working as a pediatric private duty nurse in the home environment! I’ve learned and practiced new skills and it’s an autonomous environment in which I am able to practice ‘the art of nursing.’ I’ve been able to use my RN license towards something so meaningful and rewarding! The office staff and scheduling team have consistently been supportive and have always been open to my needs when it comes to scheduling and the hours I need to work—I’ve been honest with them and I feel they’ve been honest with me. They’ve never been pushy or overbearing and I truly felt they’ve wanted to keep me happy by trying to accommodate as much as they can. I would definitely recommend Strive to a friend and to other nurses out there!!

The company strikes the perfect note when you first come in for training; welcoming, cheerful, happy to have you as a member of the team. We get monthly little thank you gifts, and very nice nurse’s week and Christmas gifts which I didn’t find in the hospital environment. But once you’re out on your own with your patient, the good feels seem to go away. We do always have clinical support emergently, urgently, or when they have time depending on what is appropriate for the patient based on your assessment. But it almost always feels like you’re a bother to be calling the office for anything. And I’m sure Covid complicated things, but there is a disconnect with building relationships with your team.

I was with Strive for 1.5 years and it was okay at first. However as time went on, it became clear that they had a high turnover with office and nursing staff. The pay was not good. I left for another PDN company making 10% more with better benefits. I was scheduled to work every Sat and Sun for 2 months straight in order to get 36 hours a week while they accommodated another nurse who was hired over a year after me with weekday shifts. They call and text at all hours on your days off asking questions and asking you to pick up shifts. The only positive was my patient and working with him. 

Where do I start....you have to do your orientation at home without pay. They tell you that during training you get paid half of your hourly wage.. I say "they tell you" because I never got paid for anything. Not orientation, 
skills tests, hiring process with some guy they call in real quick, not even the horrible day of training. Supervisors lie about patients medical history and ask you to lie in your nurses notes. You are told not to ask questions.  The job is so boring it's like watching paint dry. They claim it's fulfilling but it's not. Only thing you're helping is this pretend company make money. 

I am so thankful I have found Strive Health Services! Strive is a wonderful company to work for. They truly care about their nurses and patients. Working PDN can be a challenging job because you are out on your own but Strive does their best to help their nurses feel supported and cared about. They encourage communication with the office and send out monthly gifts to all nurses. There is always someone available to speak to if any emergency arises. I have been able to balance work, school, and family while working for Strive. I am very appreciative of this company and am looking forward to many more years working together!
