I worked at Suncrest for about 10 months and when first starting it was awesome. I felt good about learning and thought it was a little fast paced, but I had never worked in the medical field before. The pace continued to be fast and I was expected to learn and remember things being shown or explained once and then treated like I was not the brightest when I asked for help later down the road. Managers were great at first, very helpful but very distant, yet they always treated me with respect up till the very end. There were some moving goals or expectations from my supervisor that caused a little wedge, but this was not completely my supervisors fault. I was inexperienced and later learned that competing hospice’s require their chaplains to have a minimum of a Masters Degree with at least one of the four Chaplain Certification Courses completed, while at Suncrest they accepted me with a BA in Pastoral Ministry. So putting all that together, I was under-qualified for the position, taking home work almost every night for 9 month straight, moving expectations, and putting almost 25,000 miles on my car… it all made for a stressful environment for me. But again, I am a more easy going person and not fueled by stress or exceeding expectations. If that is you and you can prove yourself, you will do wonderful in this job. 
The reason I gave 3 stars instead of 2 was for the fact that my supervisor saw and recognized I was burning out and I was going to bring myself down and the other chaplains down if I didn’t resign. He talked with me in a sincere way and explained everything straightforward as I asked questions. I could tell it genuinely hurt him to have to ask me to resign, but it was not fair to me, the other chaplains, my patients, or the company to keep me going the way I was. I greatly respect my supervisor and the other managerial staff at Suncrest for catching this. I wish I didn’t have to leave, but with how I was performing and the bad work-life balance it wouldn’t have worked out in the long run. 
One last thing. I realize that God had such a large part in me getting this job and in me leaving this job. I am looking at going to seminary in the next two years and every chaplain including my supervisor commented that the training and real life experience I received at Suncrest has placed me leaps and bounds above many other pastors who have been doing ministry for years. So all-in-all, even thought it didn’t work out and things could have been different on both sides, I did learn a lot and I am thankful for the time I was at Suncrest and how this experience will serve me going forward in years to come. 

I used to work at Suncrest in Sacramento up until recently. I love hospice, and I loved the work, and the people. They had a knack for hiring passionate, caring folks, and inspiring them to throw their all into hospice care. The culture was great for the beginning of the time period I was there, which is why I was willing to be a bit underpaid for my position. The work load was also reasonable. However, as time went on, people started leaving Suncrest, and were never replaced. We lost 2 ADONs who helped manage admissions and aides, 2 admissions nurses (we only hired one to replace despite a higher patient census,) we lost several RN case managers that weren't replaced. Caseload were very high. At the peak, I think I had 18 patients, our aides had something like 20ish I think. RNCMs' promised max load was 12. The workload was near impossible. There were days that I would see 6-7 patients during the work day, do an admission, and be up until midnight getting my charting done. Then I would be back at it again at 8:30am. Despite having staff leaving, management/corporate would continue trying to bring on more patients, and celebrate as we passed milestones for how many patients we had. I think a lot of people have good intentions at Suncrest, however I think many folks there get blinded by numbers and profit, and the "common folk" suffer from that. I have met some of the best people in this career field at Suncrest who are truly in it for the work, but also a lot who are here for just the paycheck and the big digit census. If you choose to work at Suncrest, please be careful and make sure to put yourself first, your patients second, and then everything else can find a place after that. If you don't like it, please don't think all hospice is this way, and feel free to give another place a go. I did and don't regret it. Also, side note - my yearly raise was I think a dollar and 20 ¢. 

My experience working for Suncrest Hospice as a CNA was unfortunately not a positive one. During my time with the company, I truly loved the work I was doing and the patients I had the privilege of caring for. Building relationships with the residents and being there for them during such important moments was the most rewarding part of my job.

However, the way I was treated as an employee made the work environment very difficult. I reached out to management multiple times in an attempt to resolve concerns and issues I was experiencing, but nothing was ever addressed or resolved. It often felt like my concerns were not taken seriously, and as a CNA I felt overlooked and undervalued as a member of the team.

Even after leaving the company, the situation has remained difficult. I still have patients who contact me because of the relationships we built while I was caring for them. Unfortunately, since I no longer work there, I cannot assist them the way I once did and instead have to direct them to a nurse. It is heartbreaking because I genuinely cared about my patients and their well-being.

I want to make it clear that I did love my job and the residents I had the opportunity to meet and care for. They are the reason I stayed as long as I did. However, the lack of support, communication, and acknowledgment from management created an uncomfortable environment not only for me but also for some coworkers who felt the same way but did not feel comfortable speaking up.

I hope this review serves as an eye-opening opportunity for the company to reflect on how employees are treated. Caregivers deserve to feel supported, heard, and respected in the workplace. My hope is that improvements are made so future employees do not have the same experience.

I absolutely loved working at Suncrest.  I have been a nurse for 30 years with a lot of experience.  I loved all the people who work there.  They are supportive and caring.  Wonderful team work among all staff.  I would have stayed until I retired but I was very under paid.  I was making less money then new nurses without a bachelors degree after my raise.  I brought it to the attention of management several times and nothing was done to correct it.  I was helping new nurses, which I love to do, who made more than me after my raise.  I asked several times to help me make sense of this and they did not provide an answer.  I was so sad and very hurt that they did not value me as I know I am a great nurse.  I worked long hours and never minded.  I love caring for patients and working with the team.  They do give bonuses and pay great if you pick up on the weekend.  I absolutely love the way they run the company in every way but the poor and  unfair pay.  I would go back there in a heartbeat if they would pay fairly.  I work for another company and make much better money but my heart is still with Suncrest.  I do recommend them highly for patients and for new nurses or nurses who maybe can negotiate a fair pay.  I loved my manager and all the team members.  The orientation is superb as long as you have a good preceptor.  The office is amazing!  I also did not have an exit interview after they contacted me by email to schedule it.  I made several attempts via email and phone to have this interview but never heard a word back.  I did just recommend my friend to work there and she was hired at better pay and is also a new RN.  They are lucky to have her and I think she will love it there.

I was hired at Suncrest as a full time RN and was excited to work for them when they promised to keep the pt caseload at 12 pts with 2 visits per week. They promised the weekend and on call staff would manage the hrs before 8A or after 5P. After working as an RN case manager for other local hospices- I thought to myself, "Hmmm finally an agency that gets the importance of work/personal life balance" They described their software program for nurse documentation- as streamlined. I took the job and literally poured myself into the job- asking for help to learn their unbelievably bulky, long-winded software which requires 22 pages of assessment for every patient seen each week and also billing each visit. The RN also has to go into medical supply company site and order for each pt from a catalog that presents thousands of products and also has to do the same for the pts DME. I was literally working over 60 hrs a week and was told by the director about how one of the nurses was managing up to 18 pts or 36 visits a week- and how the company considered her a star, Wink, wink, nod nod. So much for work/personal life balance. Suncrest is all about admissions- no matter what the implications are for their overworked burned out staff. When I could not and would not meet their expectations- they let me go. Their dismissal was so cold and heartless- and undeserved as I never missed a day of work, never refused to take a patient, and always put my best foot forward. Even their best nurses told me during my orientation that "They did not have a life" and that their nights and weekends were always about catching up. Steer away from this company, fellow nurses. They may be making a lot of money with fancy offices- but their nurses are suffering for it.

This company will preach flexibility and will reel you in by presenting all of the positivity and compassion.. they’ll rave about a “family” environment.. but it’s all a lie. 

I was promised in my interview a time to pick up my kids would be honored and i would be able to flex that hour and it was going to be no big deal…  and everyday it is an issue.. all while other case managers are free to do as they please if they are favored. they can start and end at anytime but if you are in the admissions role you are at the mercy of the intake coordinator and you have no life.  You are expected to go out at all hours of the evening and you are not permitted to say no if you are unavailable… if you even try to say it’s too far (bc you don’t have a territory) or if you’re behind on charting bc you have 3 admissions a day or if you have charting to do from the routine visits and aid visits you’re expected to help with… you are met with a guilt trip or a trip to the office for a very mean spirited meeting. They will constantly ask for help and if you cannot offer the extra time you are scolded  & made to feel guilty. Management is very clique-y and will be nice to your face but speak poorly of you when you aren’t around. They do not care about the patients only “quotas and goals” for the month. They admit people who are not hospice appropriate based on  facility relationships  and will ask you to “find” or “twist” information so they can collect the medicare benefit. If you’re looking to lose your license this is the place for you. 

Current situation is what upper management would claim as “growth”, due to patient census going higher and monthly goals being met. This appears political, and this entirely changes the culture and what company mission statement is trying to live up to. Majority of the employees/staffs are talented, strong in the face of challenges they meet during patient care if they work in the field or the overwhelming work seated on the desk if they work in the office. This is not hiding the bigger picture that company is now beginning to just aim on hitting goal by the numbers, getting more money, and not really being mindful of staffs work/life balance. They now take referrals and allow their clinicians to go out there and see patients in an unsafe environment to provide patient care. There is just a lot of false reassurance being provided to overworked clinicians and office staffs. To be specific, this company would say they are hiring more, at the same time just allow people getting burned out and causes a lot of people to quit, or step down from their current status/responsibility. It’s sad to say that from what this company had been before compared to now, that they are what looking like a company with revolving doors. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
It's a biger company with already set up procedures. The physicians are great to work with. Some level of teamwork  atleast when I started. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
As the company got bigger, the extra responsibilities and case load ended up being added to existing staff instead of increasing staff. It undermined the teamwork. There are always promises but no follow through from management. Multiple administrators and change in supervisor roles. It seemed profit is the only thing that mattered and the great nurses that once gave it its name, were forced to leave. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Big company mentality. Keep profit to the maximum. Throw a couple of standard employee appreciation emails here and there. Such a  fake email. feeling of being a part of a team, has gone down as time went on.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
See your patients, answer calls from  patient families. Follow up on admissions. Order medications. Coordinate with other disciplines. Respond emergent visits that might be priority. There are often requests to take on more visits.

Suncrest used to be a company I was proud to work for and truly believed provided the best patient care in the metro. Until the current administrator stepped in almost a year ago. In that time, due to poor leadership skills, almost all of the original staff have quit. I decided to give new management one year. In the last several months case loads have become unmanageable for little compensation compared to other companies around the metro. Communication is nonexistent. If you expect management to remember a conversation I recommend following up with an email. Finally, the OKC office main focus has become admitting every person they can without regard to the fact they don’t have the staffing or people with experience to provide the care that is sold to them with the current census. New nurses without experience receive approximately 2 weeks of training and then are thrown to the wolves with a caseload of 12-15. It takes more than 2 weeks of training to learn the EMR much less the hospice philosophy and application in the field with patients and caregivers. Unless corporate can pull it together and see the issue is with the administrator I have serious doubts about the future and success for the OKC office. 

Suncrest Hospice is a wonderful place to work. They are truly focused on creating the best team of the most qualified individuals. I have a strong sense of value that my role is important and that my ideas are appreciated. The leadership team is truly supportive of me as part of the team, but also as an individual. The team cheers each other on, both professionally and personally. Additionally, Suncrest seeks to provide the highest quality hospice care and this goal is easily achieved because of the high quality staff. It’s wonderful to work for a great company, but it’s even more wonderful knowing that we take this excellence to our patients and they reap the benefits. 
As with any job, there are tasks that can be difficult, but it’s always encouraged to ask for help and seek understanding if something is particularly difficult. The benefits (health, dental, vision, 401K, and PTO) are truly excellent, just another thing that shows they care about their employees. Benefit packages are affordable and they really offer quite a bit more than other similar companies. Suncrest is the perfect fit for someone who wants to excel in their role and continue to develop professionally.
