TJ Samson Community Hospital

This is a horrible company to work for. I was hired as a part-time employee and informed that I would be allowed three sick days per year. I called in twice in one year, 7 months apart, and was written up for being absent too much. Both times I contacted my employer the night before (7+ hours prior to shift start) my shift to let them know I had a fever. They have few opportunities for further training & advancement in the organization. My supervisor was unsupportive at best and occasionally hostile. Employees are expected to accept verbal abuse from doctors & nurses as a routine part of the job. The emphasis is on annual profit, not the welfare of the employees or patients. Doctors in all departments will frequently overbook as many as three or four patients per 15 minute appointment slot. As a result, patients are routinely expected to wait two to three hours or more past their scheduled appointment time. Some doctors, particularly primary care physicians, emphasize scheduling as many patients as possible, regardless of whether this is appropriate for adequate patient care. Staff break areas and restrooms are extremely inadequate. Several staff restrooms routinely have significant plumbing issues that render them unusable and even having occasional flooding due to the toilets overflowing. A significant plumbing problem in 2019 resulted in the decision to open the floor and wall of an employee work area to enable a plumbing team to work on the septic system. Employees were expected to continue working with an open hole in the floor that exposed a section of plumbing and a direct opening into the raw sewage storage. This situation lasted all day and employees were required to continue scheduling patients over the phone while breathing in the fumes of the open septic system. Employee break areas are extremely tiny, dirty, and poorly furnished, frequently resulting in long lines just to use the staff microwave. Break areas for physicians are significantly larger, cleaner, and well furnished, but non-clinical staff are not permitted to use the clinical staff break areas. Employees are required to attend mandatory meetings, although very little is accomplished due to employees being too intimidated to bring up serious concerns. Employees are not given financial incentives or bonuses. Instead, employees are rewarded with "goodie bags", which are small ziplock baggies filled with cheap pens, 2 or 3 pieces of candy, and a small note saying "Good job!" or "Thank you!". These items are bought in bulk at dollar stores and employees are occasionally asked stay late, after the end of their shift, and fill the same bags that they later receive. Supervisors also do "rounding" with employees, which is meant to be a one-on-one meeting to address concerns. However, supervisors rely on a script which consists of relatively pointless questions and does nothing to encourage healthy dialog between employees and supervisors. I also personally witnessed several people in upper level management who made racist and sexist comments on a regular basis. Patients are likely unaware that the TJ Samson Health Pavillion physicians and the TJ Samson Community Hospital both have a long history of misdiagnosis and poor patient care, resulting in many cases that have been settled out of court. A patient was diagnosed with cancer and sent to a larger hospital for treatment. However, the larger hospital ran further tests and found that the patient actually had lupus, and did not have cancer of any kind. Overall, this medical facility is a horrible place for everyone. I would not recommend it to employees or patients.

Working as a nurse at this hospital has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. From the moment I joined the team, I was struck by the supportive and uplifting culture. Management here truly values its employees and fosters an environment where we feel heard, respected, and empowered to provide the best care possible for our patients.

I worked with TJ for 16 years and loved it. Pretty much everyone bands together as a family. Due to the nature of the job, a lot of bad things are seen and heard. When dealing with people in a healthcare setting, you deal with a lot of sadness and grief. Employees tend to bond over situations like that to heal. There are also happy times...sick people getting better, lives saved and new lives entering the world.

The current management team, from the CEO on down, will make you feel right at home. You are treated as a valued team member, no matter what pay grade or education level.

I will say, be very mindful of policies and how you interact with some you perceive as friends! Things can get turned around very fast, and the head of HR will only see one side. Once she has something set in her mind, there's nothing you can do to change it. I didn't even try to deny or defend myself much because I knew she wouldn't take my side into consideration. I spent 16 years as a dedicated family member at TJ without even so much as a verbal reprimand, and one incident that was honestly blown WAY out of proportion got me terminated. No warning, writeup, suspension or counseling, just out the door. I am very disappointed and hurt by this.

Even with my end experience, I highly recommend working for TJ. It's really a great place to work, learn and grow.

The providers are great please don’t get me wrong on that. Coworkers and team work again great. But the reason for the one star review is Management they are absolutely the worst I have ever worked with or for. No matter what the company says or there mission states the tolerate retaliation and violence from the management to the employees. The management are friends outside of work and are biased again the employees. They talk down to employees and will not get all information and form an unbiased opinion of a situation they will automatically take the side of there friends no matter what is said, no matter the evidence or witnesses. Then when you go to HR to help protect your self they just tell the managers verbatim what is said to them so the retaliation is worse than before. No matter who you go to it gets swept under a rug and ignored. They are about no one no matter what they say. This place only causes stress and anxiety. No one should have to endure what the employees of this company have to. There is a reason they have so many open positions and cannot keep employees. If you are thinking about working for this place don’t run the other direction nothing is worth your sanity that you will lose here.

Management comes from individuals who have little experience doing what you are doing, and have little knowledge on how to assist you if needed.  Some supervisors don’t know  the correct way to reprimand staff & look for reasons to nit pick what you do, as if working here is not hard enough!! Extremely unprofessional staff in some areas! Nothing is done to reprimand staff who are harassing to other staff, so it does no good to report it and behavior from those individuals continues. 
There is no sick time for employees, and you’re given points if you have to call in, this includes having to call in to take care of your children. 
The organization cares nothing about the staff. It doesn’t matter how hard you work. You’re just a body filling a position. Extremely disappointed in what I have seen here!! 

Need I say more? This place has very poor management that is extremely unorganized. Healthcare industry is suffering as it is and over working their current employees, HR STILL moped around and takes 2+ months to get back to people about job openings and start the interview process. They expect people to wait to hear back that long? I know many people who have moved on before they even got a call back because HR is so scatterbrained and dragging their feet 24-7. 

The patients were wonderful. But the skilled nursing staff and supervisor was not he best. When the senus is down you would move throughout the hospital. I stayed my 6 months so I could transfer to another part of the hospital, and the supervisor wrote me up so I couldnt. I was also told upon hire they would work with your school schedule, If you have kids and are going to school. Work and school is all you will be doing, he schedule me to work everyday I was not in class. 

I chose the above rating due to lack of experienced leadership and lack of support and job security for seasoned employees. Many were forced to take early retirement over the past couple of years. The most enjoyable part of my job was the patients who I provided care to. Also the teamwork between field nurses was awesome. Everyone pulled together to see patients and each provided excellent quality care for patients in the community.

My typical day at work is working in a face paced coding department.  I review and code multiple charts per day  and send to billing.  I work with a great group of co-workers and we work well together as a team.  The hardest part of my job is meeting productivity each day.  We deal with different issues on each chart which from time to time may cause me to not meet productivity,  This does not happen on a daily basis but does happen.  The most enjoyable part of my job is being able to work well with others and being a team.

I loved my job in Housekeeping at T.J. Samson. we worked through a contracting group. The management in housekeeping let things slide  with the new employees and the older ones paid the price. I had a health issue. It was something personal I was going through. They told me that I could have time off and draw unemployment but afterwords fought  my unemployment. I still think Tj is a great place to work. However housekeeping is not under good management.
