I am currently working in inpatient care at Willowbrooke at Tanner Medical Center with behavioral health patients. I have previously worked in food services with management background. A typical day at work for me is in direct care. I work alongside a team of doctors, nurses and therapists who provide short term treatment in transition to longer rehabilitation if necessary. I am charged with keeping the patients safe and on schedule. I facilitate therapy groups daily and provide feedback to the treatment team. I've learned how to work with a diverse population and respond/de-escalate in a crisis situation. I've also learned many skills and continually gain knowledge within the medical field. I greatly enjoy the team I work with and carry a great rapport with the management team. The hardest part of the job is figuring out ways to help people in their current situations, as everyone functions and responds differently to different treatment methods. I work with an array of different age groups as well as different mental capabilities and have to a accommodate. I find this field very interesting and challenging. I enjoy that each day is a new learning opportunity. Mostly, I enjoy helping people and the fact that I work with such an amazing, cohesive team of individuals.

WB needs to clean house of the bums that they kept for years that do not do anything regarding managing staff, the training process and picking money over client safety. The sad part is they sell you with the promise of making money. However, this is not a place for advancement if you are licensed do not waste your time unless you are interested in a mangement position. Otherwise, you will have to deal with backbiting, jealous and unhappy staff members including supervisors who think you want their job and will try to make you miserable in the process. They do have some good people. Exactly how long those people will stay I do not know. Again, they will promise you things that they will not do....until the supervisor or therapist realizes they been jipped they will go along with it. They have some unethical and illegal practices they just hide it. Make sure you try and talk to people who have worked there. All departments are dificult the level of difficulty depends on the demands and how supportive the supervisor is. Mines was never there and was extremely lazy and probably should have quit. Don't trust people in high up positions that talk bad about their own supervisors. Upper management is a soap opera that needs to be canceled.

I can't speak for the medical side, I can only speak for Willowbrooke.  My colleges on the medical floor seemed satisfied however most folks I worked with in MH as well as myself were deeply dissatisfied with our management.  The focus is largely on "fill the bed/program slot" and not on what patients really needed.  Management only cared about numbers, not about their employees.  Managers and directors arbitrarily increase workload and reduce support provided and are frequently difficult to get in touch with.  Marketing very frequently calls shots in departments where they should have little to no say.  Patient complaints/concerns regarding their treatment at a facility are often minimized or swept under the rug entirely.  Employee favoritism is frequent with administration to the point where division of labor barely exists.  As a result, as of my leaving morale was verging on non-existant for many of my co-workers, myself included.

I have worked for Tanner for many years. I have been through several rotations of managers, directors, and physicians. The most recent manager/director is the absolute worst manager/director I have ever worked with. She's very sneaky in her ways. When working for this company you must be very careful to not tell the management anything about yourself unless it's strictly work related!! Communication is key but false communication leads to many other problems.  You also rarely get a lunch and they expect you to do the job of 2-3 people when you're only one person. The benefits are ok. On the medical side the insurance doesn't pay for anything until you have met your deductible unless it's your yearly screening (mammograms,pap smear, ect.). The dental will only cover $1250 max a year. The 401k has now dropped to where they will only match 3%. 
Overall in these last couple of year Tanner has went down hill!! If you are looking for a starter job I'd say you are fine but anything else absolutely run from this company and the terrible management.

I have worked at the Emergency Department for 2 years and 10 months. I have been a Patient Advocate for 1 year and 10 months of that time. I enjoy working at the Carrollton Emergency Department at Tanner Medical Center. I have gained a great amount of customer service experience working here. I have learned that you have to maintain a sense of respect for everyone, no matter their situation of life circumstances. I have been able to be there for patients in their lifes most difficult situations. I love my co-workers and have found it very difficult to turn in my notice of resignation. I had to make one of the hardest decisions ever, for my family. I need a first shift position desperately. A typical day at the Emergency Room can vary, It can be a total caos, or just extremely busy. It is okay with me, I enjoy working in a busy working environment.

I worked for tanner medical center for a total of 6 months, at willowbrooke. The mental health facility. I use to have think very highly of this hospital until I realized how political and unprofessional they actually are. Willowbrooke is like the red headed step child of all the facility’s. Management is absurd and unprofessional. You never see any other tanner HR employees checking in like they would at the other three hospitals. It was impossible to get anyone to call back, continuing to refer me to my “managers” that obviously wanted nothing to do with me or to help me. After the notice was put in, they completely blocked my emails and calls. This place is a disgrace and it’s incredible that they’re able to run a hospital for this long with the level of racism and, disorganization, lack of communication that they have. This hospital thinks that because they own most of not all the medical offices in Carrollton they are worth something but little do people know what a cluster it is behind closed doors. If you are a person of color I suggest you run far away from Tanner. You will stick out like a sore thumb and you can tell your are being judged. Everyone there has been there 10+ years and are burnt out and terrible providers. No one is accepting learning new techniques and productivity because they are no hyper focused on the way they’ve learned and practiced, and in which in some cases is good, but when it comes to therapy and life it could be harmful. Worked with some horrible clinicians in the counseling center that did not follow any ethical practices or standards and I would not be surprised if some lost their license. Many providers in the counseling center would bill clients insurance for the full amount, and not provide the services. For example, if a session is supposed to be 90 minutes, and your counselor saw you for 30 minutes the counselor would still bill the full amount. This occurred numerous times in the IFI program.

As a whole I think Tanner is a great place to work, great benefits, and great people as a whole. No job is perfect and we all can probably find something to complain about with management,  but it's sad how one robotic manager can make so many people's work life miserable. and it's truly sad when management doesn't take note of how one manager makes staff miserable and allow one manager to stay in a position that they obviously are not suited for, when there are positions that they would be much better suited for. Believe management will lose great people if this manager isn't moved to where they could be used better and would help others to not have to deal with this robotic manager making their work lives difficult. I think Tanner would be amazing place to work if manager were evaluated by the staff without fear of reprisal..

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Having multiple responsibilities and not getting the pay that is deserved. Having to run and transfer patients, while the RN's play games on the cellphones/laptops. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very clicky and if you aren't part of the "it" crew, you are treated like garbage.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day in the ER is fast-paced and unpredictable. I assisted with triage by obtaining vital signs, preparing rooms, and helping patients with immediate needs. Throughout the shift, I supported nurses and providers with procedures, transport patients, monitor patient status, restock supplies, and help maintain a safe, organized environment. The role requires quick thinking, teamwork, and the ability to stay calm under pressure while providing compassionate care.
