Team Select Home Care

This was one of the worst job experiences I ever encountered. 

First of all, they are incredibly disorganized. No one knew who was supposed to be providing orientation. After I completed orientation, I had to resubmit my availability several times, even though I had submitted it initially with the application, and then again upon hire. Several weeks went by and I never received any information regarding shifts. Upon contacting them, I found out the had lost my availability, so I provided it once again. They set me up with a training shift with a nurse to make sure I was competent. The nurse showed up an hour late and I was left with the family waiting for her, since no plan of care was provided to me and it was a mandatory comprehensive shift. They neglected to send either of us with supplies, so I had to go all the way back to the office to apologizing staff for not providing me with the materials they said they would. After getting all of that straightened out, it was another few weeks and I still hadn't heard anything from them. I called them to see what the issue was, and they had lost my availability, even though I sent it via email so they could reference it. They then proceeded to offer me shifts not only outside of my availability, but they reached out to me on such short notice, I wouldn't have been able to drop what I was doing to get there on time if I was free. The kicker was, they wouldn't even call me to offer shifts, they would only e-mail me, so I know they had to have received my availability.  When expressed my frustrations with their process, they offered me a client. I agreed to take the client on three days a week. I began to see the client, and they hadn't provided a sharps container for her needles, and she was stashing them in a detergent container. The house was not safe for the staff, and they began to use the client as an intermediary to offer me more shifts instead of confirming with me. It was extremely unprofessional and by law you are required to provide sharps containers and a sanitary way to dispose of them. 


They pay fourteen dollars for the first hour, but then you decrease pay hourly after that. 

They also only pay by note turned in, but they have to approve the note. If they don't like the note, you have to redo it before payment, however they don't actually tell you that you need the note redone, so you have to watch your paycheck to see if it is short.

I've been a CNA & HHA for 15 yrs and this company is by far the best I've had the pleasure to work for!  Im not a number here and they allow me to still be a mother and work!  They really do care about the patients and workers being a good fit together.  Most companies just fill a hole w/any warm body that makes it threw orientation. This is hands down, thee best company, with the best upper management, that I've experienced in this field.  Also they have a point system to promote greatness and recognize those who have done even the most simple things.  Give that worker that "I see u and ur doing a great job" sorta thing.  And the workers get points for this.  They have a HUGE list of things to pick from when u want to collect the earned points too!.  Lots of training to stay up on things and if ur 1 that loves to do extra schooling things then they can too!  They really do want the workers to flourish and move fwd.  As of almost a yr with this company.....the only thing I can say that I'm NOT a fan of is, the app in which we chart.  It's new of course but very generic kinda layout.  Somethings  could be added to make it not so..... yes or refused.  Then the other thing is the downfall to matching a client to worker.  This means they don't take on a huge base of workers or clients till they can make sure the client is cared for AND not going w/o care.  It's great as a whole till something happens to the client your pared with (like death, hospital, or placed in a Nursing home).  This means more then likely they will be bringing on a new client, you will spot fill for those who become sick or need a day off once & a while, or you get some free time (topped with no pay given no client to work for yet)  its normal a short time but it does happen.  That's 1 of those "unspoken knows" of this type of job anyways.  I personally flourish in this type of setting vs a Nursing home.  Keep in mind I do have ADHD and it's hard to find a company or employer who will help me succeed vs ding and/or fire for my shortcomings I naturally have (nothing huge but sometimes I over share a situation that might not of needed a explanation.)  Understanding and genuine people help people like me......try to live a life as normal as possible.  I can't thank them enough for all they do! Beyond appreciative for everything!

I have been a Liscenced Practical Nurse for almost 12 years now. I have worked Psychiatric Nursing, Long-term Skilled Nursing, Long-term Assisted Living, Rehab Nursing, Clinical Nursing, and finally, Home Health Nursing.

I currently work for Together Home Care in Evansville and have been here for approximately 2.5yrs. I have definitely found my niche in Nursing! I worked for one other Home Care agency before this for almost two years and the difference between there and Together Homecare is NIGHT and DAY!

First of all, Together Homecare is a new and rapidly growing agency that is destined to be Evansville's leading Home Care Agency at some point soon, I have no doubt. The office staff is a large part of that. They are truly unique and distinguished in a good way compared to other agencies I've worked for, heard about, and/or interviewed with.

They respect you and appreciate you, literally like no other place I've ever worked at, true story. I am never annoyingly micro-managed like other places I've worked. They somehow manage to have the intrapersonal skills it takes to make sure we pay attention to detail as a Nursing Staff, by going by the book without being ridiculous or annoying. It's pretty amazing really. What a fine line, but my office folks manage to pull it off. I have not had anything even resembling cross words or negative vibes from the mother ship. Not once in 2.5yrs. How many places have you worked at that you can say that about?

Do yourself a favor if you are a nurse. If you are experiencing a toxic working environment and/or feel tapped out or overworked like I know so many of you have experienced for the last year and a half, and may still be experiencing; come apply in person or on line at Together Homecare. No two days are the same, and I’m consistently involved in projects that support both our internal teams and the thousands of caregivers and nurses who serve our patients. It is the kind of environment where you stay engaged because what you do truly matters.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned here is how to operate at a high level across multiple departments while still keeping people first. Team Select has pushed me to grow in project management, communication, system design, and long term strategy. The leadership team trusts you to take ownership, and that trust has helped me develop into a stronger professional.

Management has been supportive, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping employees succeed. I feel heard, valued, and encouraged to bring forward ideas that improve the employee experience and strengthen the organization. No company is perfect, but Team Select really does make an effort to support their employees and it has only gotten better over time.

The workplace culture is mission driven and centered on supporting families and patients. It is also a culture that rewards initiative. When someone sees a gap and steps up to fill it, leadership notices.

For some, the hardest part of the job might be the pace and amount of change. Because the company continues to grow, there is always a lot happening at once. It can be challenging, but it also makes the work exciting and meaningful. Many companies try to excite you by mentioning rapid growth, but what that translates to in reality is poor planning, lack of communication and thin support. However, in my time at Team Select, I have only experienced positives in these areas. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is knowing that the work I do helps create better resources, systems, and support for the people who care for our patients. Being part of something that directly improves lives is incredibly rewarding.

Working at team select was intense for a lot of the wrong reasons. Management gave you a very idyllic picture of what it would be like working there, but the reality of the situation was very different than how it was portrayed. This unfortunately wasn’t the only way management was duplicitous. First, when I was hired I was promised to only receive referrals and be asked to go in the 10+ zip code radius I provided to them. However, I was asked multiple times to see kids 20 miles outside the service area all parties agreed upon. When I explained I couldn’t take the case, I was met with statements like “it’s just outside your service area” and “sometimes we have to be flexible with windshield time.” This company is *very* disorganized. For example, we were provided with company tablets but was without a SIM card for a month, despite consistent office communication. Additionally, there aren’t currently many referrals. My caseload consisted of patients who had followed me to Team Select and individuals I covered for a therapist on maternity leave. Getting orders for my existing patients took a week minimum, usually it was 2. At the same time the company was not very understanding on why I was yet to reach their full time numbers. Though management verbally expressed support, it was not genuine upon reception and I generally found management to be toxic. I and many others recently resigned, and I wanted to make sure others knew that the job described and the job itself are very different things

Overall working for team select was a big learning experience. I got plenty of practice using my skills with certain patients and with other patients I felt as if I was more of a babysitter. In the end, I decided I didn't care for home care because of multiple reasons. Most CNA's were unreliable and I was constantly asked to cover shifts and drive all over town. The time limits for each patients visit was too short and I felt I was not giving the quality of care I could of. I also felt uncomfortable at some of the patients homes. I felt bad for most patients because there was so much turn over most of them had a different CNA coming to their house everyday. This was my first CNA job and I was very unprepared for my first home visit. I was not sent with the appropriate address information so I could not get into the building. I had to wait for an RN to arrive to give me the entrance code. I was also not given any supplies or client information before arriving to the residence. I had to think on my feet and adapt to each situation thrown at me. 

There was also a large amount of turn over in management as well. I felt as if they were under staffed in every position from management to case managers and RN's to CNA's. 

That being said I decided home care and this particular agency wasn't for me.However, I learned a lot and gained a lot of experience in the time I worked there.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Usually get great support from management. The only issue has been with the nursing director who lacks skill with mediating difficult interactions with clients. Very flexible hours and location options for home care, able to provide unique caring one on one home care and have job satisfaction as a nurse. Love having a great work environment and having work life balance!!!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Navigating difficult interactions with occasional client families that can be very one sided and dismissive of the nursing objectives and roles and perspectives of an in home nurse

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Love almost everyone, very supportive and eager to problem solve scheduling or work preferences

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
8 hrs of incredible one on one care with a pediatric client and interacting and teaching with family. Being able to provide excellent care to one patient is fantastic. Charting on phone has been fairly easy

I can only speak to the newer therapy division. Team Select only focuses on early intervention for clients for their OTs, SLPs and PTS which are double the work especially since Team Select's support team does none of the paperwork relying solely on the care providers for it all. As a heads up, early intervention are hour long sessions so it is very burdensome for providers but some people like this clientele. Pay rates for the company are good at first glance, however, when you do the math at double normal visit lengths based on the clients it isn't that good.  Multiple therapists I work with have to have second jobs to live as costs in Colorado are so high.  Watch out for not required  Friday meetings where they end up taking attendance anyway and are "off the clock." Overall, would not recommend working here unless you like long hours, little support, and spending less time on therapy than busy work.


I have to admit that there are some pretty awesome people working for Team Select. Unfortunately none of them are in management.
They brought a new DON in about 9 months or so ago. Ever since that transition it's become a miserable place to work. 
Most of the people who have left the company do so because of the DON. The lying, backstabbing, and being talked down to has gotten to many of the field staff. 
You are expected to be married to your phone or tablet so you can answer emails. This includes nights when you aren't on call and days off. The pay wasn't as competitive as they say it is. 
Having high standards is one thing, but pick something and stick with it! The inconsistencies in how the DON wanted things done were crazy. 
I went from truly loving my job at Team Select to dreading going to work every day. The whole vibe changed from being a fun upbeat place to work to one where you are always criticized, you're expected to take on more and more work, and upper management doesn't listen to the employees complaints and concerns.

The first thing to be said is the workplace culture is amazing. You just have to experience it yourself to understand. We truly are a TEAM! The management is highly experienced and they aren't afraid of hard work. Often managers perform task outside of their daily job description to assist with clinician’s caseloads on busier weeks. The all around team culture and help is what makes clinicians happy to work a little more on those days we really need it. A general workday for myself is 8-5 with all documentation included. As long as you are meeting your productivity, you aren't pushed to do more than you can handle. The job you sign for on paper is the same job you are going to get; There are no surprises after you sign the dotted line and that has been comforting.
