Don’t get me wrong, the benefits of this job are great (good healthcare, solid 401k match, company car), but the job itself is so meaningless. I’ll start off saying the work is super easy and the job pays decently well ($25/hour essentially). They also have pretty good growth opportunities if that’s something your looking for. The work itself is the least stimulating thing you’ll ever do in your life though, and burnout will set in quickly. 

You stand around in a Home Depot for 8 hours/day, 40 hours a week and complete tasks given to you by the company, clean and maintain the stock of the brands you’re in charge of, and sell to customers. However, what upper management fails to understand is rarely is there a time when a customer walks into a store like Home Depot not knowing what they already want to buy. This job could be done in 15-20 hours/week, but the company forces you to do extra meaningless work to fill a 40 hour work week. They expect you to stand around in the aisles all day attempting to sell. Most sales I’ve made and people I talked to made, the customer already knew what they wanted/needed and we just got it for them. Then we pretend we did all this work to make the sale happen in order to impress the higher ups in the company. They also expect you to disregard the fact that the Home Depot is set up in a certain way to display/sell different brands in specific spots in the store, and they just want you to take over the entire store with their brand. This gets on the nerves of all the Home Depot employees/management, and makes you look like the bad guy when you’re going around moving their entire store set up.

During the interview process they tell almost everyone that it’s a salary job, when in reality it is indeed hourly. They require their employees to have college degrees, aka be adults, but then proceed to treat them like little kids. If you’re not in the Home Depot for your allotted shift for even just a minute or two, management will come cracking down on you. You always have to get approval to do anything outside of the store from your manager. Management also likes to do these things called “store walks” where they essentially pop in on a random day/time to help you with work and see how things are going, when in actuality it’s to make sure you’re doing your job and are in your store for those 40 hours. The trust between management and employees is terrible, and it’s almost as if most managers are out to get you. If you don’t eat, sleep, and breathe the company, they will find a reason to cut you.

Overall Techtronic Industries is a very mid to sub par job at best. I think this job has the potential to be great, aka making it a salary position and emphasizing task completions rather than forcing employees to stand around and attempt to sell all day (which never works), or take over the entire Home Depot with their brand. In todays day and age, many companies are starting to realize employees are more productive when they can essentially do what they want, work wherever they want, and don’t have to make work their life. Unfortunately Techtronic Industires is still a step behind in realizing this.

If you're reading this to decide whether or not to take the job, you may be confused by the amount of contradictory statements that you find. In fact, some are so polar opposite, you figure someone must be lying. No one is lying, your experience here depends entirely on who your manager is and how good of a store you are at.

However, having experienced the same thing myself, I think that most of the good reviews are spurned on by the gratefulness you feel toward the company car and other various benefits you never thought you would see. However, eventually you will realize that this is a dead end job. Getting promoted depends entirely on the manager and your manager's boss, and if they like you or not. I was never given any metrics I would need to reach to be eligible for promotion. However, they also will not have any time to spend on you so they will never get to know you. If you don't want to move, you will soon learn that getting a new job isn't so easy. This is a retail job, and you will not be learning many transferable skills. It's obviously not impossible, as turnover rate is high and people still get other jobs, but it is something to keep in mind. 

If this job is your last resort, it's a good last resort. If you get a less attractive offer (in terms of benefits), ask yourself if the job will actually give you the skills you will need to succeed in the future. If it does, and the company does not seem terrible, I would go for the other option.

TTI also has a "stocks only go up" mentality. They are growing at a rapid pace, but credit it to their reps instead of the natural growth driving from people buying power tools during the pandemic. This is not likely to be an issue for several more years, in the admittedly unlikely event that they start doing badly, but just something I wanted to mention.

No matter how hard you work at TTI or what you’re able to accomplish, management never wants to even have a conversation about a promotion unless you are willing to move across the country. You will burn yourself out for no reason going above and beyond for the company to try to work your way up and they will look the other way and promote someone who has been in the role for a fraction of the time you have and has no clue what they’re doing. They also tend to promote a lot of lazy reps that don’t stand out or don’t even do their basic job responsibilities. Because TTI only promotes from within and they promote so many under-qualified workers, the management and corporate positions are riddled with incompetence. In the rep role, you are constantly given unrealistic expectations from management since management is so out of touch with how things work in the store. Corporate also loves to push blame on the FSMRs for failing to meet sales goals when the state of the economy, consumer trends, and poor management within the company are mostly to blame. They love slashing our benefits and laying off hundreds of reps when times get tough and they will either lie and say they didn’t do these things or downplay the severity of what they’re doing. These are some of the many reasons why the turnover rate is so high and you will rarely see anyone in the company over the age of 30. Depending on your store, you may also get stuck doing much more work than you are supposed to do. My store had management that did not hold their associates or MET Team accountable whatsoever, so I was constantly making up the work that they were supposed to be doing so I could do my job correctly. This job is ok right out of college to build some money up, but there is no job security, the job is usually extremely boring, and do not expect to be promoted like recruiters promise you that you will be within 6-12 months in the interview process. 

Everything about this job is a lie. You hold the title of "Sales and Marketing Representative" when in reality you do no marketing and stand on the floor of Home Depot twiddling your thumbs for 8-10 hours a day. 

You are a salesperson as much as any other Home Depot employee has the right to call themselves " a salesperson." I cannot tell you how much of my time was wasted at this company while my peers were gaining valuable on-the-job skills and experience to help them advance their careers. This job is a waste of time, people are promoted not for their merit but for their looks, popularity, or just favoritism (when people are rarely promoted at all). 

The fact that this position is part of a "Leadership Development Program" is an absolute joke. You learn no valuable leadership skills other than how to lead yourself out of the building after another great day of accomplishing nothing. 

My biggest qualm is that they make this out to be a fast track to whatever career path you are most interested in ie: Marketing, Finance, Sales, etc. When in reality there is no structure, plan, or system to get you to any of those goals/promises.

Onto the management. You will be managed by someone the same age as you with no greater qualification other than that the last hiring manager thought they were hot. The whole management system is flawed with tons of useless middle management positions.  I thought most of my managers were trash.

There is no reason to take this job, trust me. You will be so much better off taking an entry level BDR/SDR job where you will be able to work remote, learn how to write email copy, build connections with professionals, etc. All you get from TTI is a branded truck to drive and a sense of self-loathing the longer you stay. Thank god I was only there for 1 year.

Good luck and don't say I didn't warn you if you take a position with this company.

typical day starts at 8, you do a walk of the entire store, looking for opportunities to expand the brand placement of your products. You spend the day downstocking product, dusting, shining, and cleaning. you sell products to customers with no commission. In addition, you follow corporate directives to place new or exciting products in run on the shelf or in a prominent location. You are required to sign off on reports for every part of the store you touched, which need to be touched a minimum of 2 times a month, and just this can take anywhere from 3-5 hours a day, depending on the state of disrepair.

The job sends about 20-30 cubic foot of product/marketing materials to your home, making your residence a mini warehouse, from which you are required to keep it in order so you can bring it to the various stores as needed. You are paid for only 40 hours per week, but in many instances, stores place roadblocks in your way which are out of your control, that will force you to work off the clock. Many store associates see a TTI rep as a perfect time to disappear and slack off. 

Great pay, free gas for the company provided truck, great benefits. 
Impossible to get promoted when you have 3 bosses in the course of 15 months, each with their own idea of how the stores need to look- despite corporate directives for them to look a very specific way.

Hardest part of the job is the tiny timeframes they give to complete huge overhauls of large portions of the stores.
Best part of the job is making customers day with new products to help them fionish their work at home.
You work alone 99% of the time. So not really any coworkers.
It really didnt teach me anything that I previously was unaware of. since I worked for the home depot for 6 years prior.

They recruit college graduates for a position within the Home Depot which shouldn't even require a GED. Then they say its temporary your going places, but I've been working on my team for 2 years. No one has been promoted in those two years and everyone who has been there longer than me has quit in the last 6 months. When recruiting, they make it sound like you will be working marketing and sales. But you will be working alone in Home Depots setting tool displays and putting up signage 8 hours 5 days a week. Management is promoted based on sales numbers and time in a representative role leading to a lot of managers who are terrible at their jobs. They don't look for people who actually have the skills or experience in management. The CEO just yells SALES SALES SALES a couple times a year over zoom and that's about the only thing I've heard from him. Co workers are great, often really good people, but as a rep you never get to work with then, you work on your own and your most frequent interaction is with Home Depot customers and employees. The biggest plus is for the work you are doing you are getting paid $52,000. This is great pay considering your doing the work of a Home Depot Associate only making $12 an hour. Company car, free gas and personal use. Great health insurance and a 401k match of up to 4%. They get you with the benefits and as far as I can see that's the only way they keep you. Its a good way to have an easy job with good pay to get by, but don't expect to feel fulfilled, accomplished or heard by the company. 

Free gas and a truck is great. Weekly pay too. Get to wear the Ryobi or Milwaukee name on your polo, but thats it. TTI prides themselves with a 'team atmosphere', but in reality there is none at all. They do not care about you as a person and do not listen to your thoughts or complaints. If you are lucky you are paired in a store with another rep so you wont get lonely. TTI gives out quarterly gifts and fun days, but they do not address the team atmosphere at all. They care so much about the numbers on a spreadsheet and you have very little to do with them at all. 

PLEASE KNOW that you work at a Home Depot 40/hrs a week and Weekends are REQUIRED during specific times of the year. You do not get a choice. In the Summer is Th-Sun for 10 hr days from April to July and Tues - Sat end of Sept - Nov. These are not optional. You are a very glorified Home Depot employee and you have no say what happens. Whatever the email or your manager says is what goes. 

You do get the creative aspect of making your own demonstration events where you get to use/play with the TTI branded tools. However, you get bored quickly and TTI tries to make you smile by having the higher up managers compliment your work. 

They have crazy turnover as well and you are not allowed to freely work with a 'co-worker'. You are required to be at your assigned Home Depot only. 

This company has normalized toxic. They encourage it at the senior management level. The more you yell, scream and demean people the more you're liked. It's a very top heavy  company with an insane amount of directors (they have a director to the director). Their roles are not very well defined so they all get involved in the same issues at once. They want to come off as the smartest people in the room but are laughed at by other associates in the company because they regularly make terrible decisions. If loyalty is important to you, don't come here, they will fire you at the drop of a hat.  Sales slowed so they started inventing reasons to fire good people, some of them had worked there for years, for the simplest reasons just so they won't have to pay the salaries (cost savings). Still can't believe folks in HR actually got behind this. You're just headcount so the years of experience that you're taking with you can be easily replaced because the many there directors are the smart ones who will lead the company. Diversity is something they struggle with as a company; that glass ceiling is made of plexiglass. They don't even pretend at it. If you do accept a position here do it with the mindset of only staying long enough to build your resume and moving on ASAP to a good company. This company is not it.

Working as a field sales rep has its ups and downs. The salary is nice (50,000, was 46 then 48) out of college, they give you a red milwaukee 2 door f150 and they pay for every expense. Hours are 7-3:30, you will see your boss once a month  depending on the territory. However, in terms of career growth, TTi isnt truthful at all. They dont care about sales numbers/driving sales as they claim. They only care about one thing and one thing only:drinking the cool aid. TTi has mostly great products and you definitely start out passionate about selling your tools over competitors. But after a while, you start to realize they dont want you to think for yourself and that the only thing that matters is kissing up to management, especially the divisonal managers. If youre not recruited out of your school by a divisonal, its very hard to move up. If you want to relocate to Milwaukee or South Carolina, its not hard to be promoted, but any other position is nearly impossible. Oh, and you work in Home Depot every day, being treated like an hourly associate by customers as the actual home depot employees create more trouble. If you have a bad manager, this job is a disaster.Certain employees will go behind the team's back to suck up to management.

they reel you in with their leadership development program, they say you'll spend about a year in the field learning the product and customer. well the I already know a thing about power tools due to my past construction experience. Then the customer is day to day people of walmart and home depot. They promise promotions around a years time but after hiring on i talked to some of the people who have been there over a year I felt discouraged a deceived.  There is a bit of "politics" required to be promoted. How ever the job is basically going to a set of pre assigned stores and stocking shelves, cleaning up aisles, and selling the product. They didn't tell me what I would be doing exactly until I accepted the job. The hours are a standard 40 hour week. The pay is decent for someone who has never made over $20 an hour in their life. Overall its a slow job, however you are not micro managed, and pretty much can work at your own place as long as you get the laundry list of tedious objectives done, others wise you will get relentless daily emails due to objectives being overdue, which most of them you cant control because you have to hunt down a store manager who often times doesn't want to be found by you.
