Tesco

A typical day at work is usually manageable. Like most jobs certain days can be harder than others. Today (Wednesday) was a very good day. I had a manageable work load which I was able to get on and finish my work with an hour spare to catch up for the rest of the week. 
 Today I learned that some members of staff don't quite understand what to do with some important stock. We had a few thousand pounds worth of items sent into store and these items were left in an unsecure place. I informed the members of staff that it was extremely important that these items need to be brought straight to the cash office to avoid any going missing. 
 The management in my work place can be nice and some can be easier to get on with than others. I choose to speak to all management as I think it is polite to do so. I get help from my department manager on a daily basis as she helps me to transfer money into our Securicor safe which requires two people to do so.
 My co-workers are fab. There is one lady and me that work in the department. We get on great. I find I am an easy person to get on with at all times. In such a small environment it is important that you get on with your co-workers. 
 The hardest part of my job has to be investigating potential theft. This is hard because there is so much work involved. Sometimes it is hard to pin point the cashier involved. In past experience we have had to track all cashiers on the tills that have lost a large amount of cash. We have a tracker that we update on a daily basis. In our tracker a pattern will emerge. We have to collect staff rotas to arrange a day to set up CCTV and arrange a member of management to watch the cashier. I arrange for another manager to staff search the cashier on their way to break while I count the till. If CCTV shows something untoward and the till is down the management take it form there. They then interview the cashier. I have no involvement from there. I also think this is hard because I help to sack a member of staff. I feel sad for the member of staff but it is wrong to steal and it is my job to help prevent this.
 I think the most enjoyable part of my job has to be knowing that I make a difference to the store. My job is so important I need to make sure I do it accurately. I believe I do this and I'm very passionate about my job. I have targets to meet every day and I'm happy to say I do this. 

I have worked for the company for such a long time and over the years the business has fallen significantly. It is a great wage if you are a student as the hours can benefit around your timetable, as well as transferring availability. But after being a student, the benefits just dropped.
I believed as a worker if you work hard, put your all into the job, work most available hours you would be rewarded - this is completely wrong. My contract at its highest was less than 10 hours and is currently even lower, so I have to rely sole on overtime which is given and dropped whenever they feel like it. Plus, it seems as though lazy work is rewarded and hard work is just expected with no reward system, as well as the company displaying no forms of confidentiality which is very scary.
The other employees are lovely I have found, but management isn't great. A few are incredibly hard workers whereas others don't really take control of a situation and shy away. Communication is something that is probably at its worst so you tend to have to ask at least 3 times for something. The business fails to put their workers first which is heartbreaking because they did once upon a time ago.

A typical day at work, When I come into the store I turn on the ovens to heat then, clear of all out of code products, then I look at the nights production sheets . While we  clear away the out of date products we see what has been over produced , if it is going to be a hot day etc. based on these things we will start making the days production ,the oven person while waiting for the bread and French to prove cook's of the sweet and savoury products, brushes down the shelf's clean pick n mix trays. Then we both pack and get the department ready for the morning trade. After the first and second wave of bread and French  I start  making the soft rolls or hot cross. When the day bakers and packers come in we hand over. The most enjoyable part of my job is the end product out of the oven smelling nice ready for the customers. You really have to work as a team in the bakery to make it work smoothly , it's not with out it's problems sometimes but we as a department we manage. We only see our boss normally once or twice a week as the bakery isn't the only department he runs , but if he needs to talk to us he comes in early to see us, the bakery team leader passes on message and keeps up with our refresher training etc.

After nearly 8 years of employment with Tesco, I can honestly say I have enjoyed 90% of my career with them, which I think is only fair - we all have bad days. I progressed within the company within my first couple of years, went out on placement and signed off as a manager for 6 years now. A normal day at work can be long and tiring and I can't say that the work/life balance is fair - you can sometimes go without seeing you're family once a week and still live in the same house with the shift patterns you can be on. The most enjoyable part of my job is being able to engage with different people daily, working shoulder to shoulder with my team and coaching them to their full potential (the same way my ex manager did) if career procession is on the cards within the company. Everyday can't be fun but the majority of them are! Colleagues are involved in seasonal fun at work or it can be a store fun day to boost moral, dress ups, colleague competitions, challenges, department vs. departments.

I’ve been working for a while now, I do love it, most colleagues are really kind and enjoyed my time there. All the picking and turnaround managers are ladies. Some are good and some are less professional. Some don’t do much work at all, but they get triggered if they see a picker not working for one /two minute out of their 4-8 hour shift where they walk  10,000-20,000 steps. This happens very often. I once saw a manager talking to her relatives on her phone and also walking around joking and talking with her friends at work (more then once) for a long period of time , which is fine, but when some workers were talking for a much lesser time the workers would get told off by the same manger . 
The pick rate targets are alright, you will normally get green and blue on a normal day but may get yellow on days you may feel tired. 

When i first started there was a vibe and it made working there fun

This has been sucked out of the store i hate working there now, its really sad

I have tried to get into the management scheme for the past 6 years and every time i ask i get no you are not ready you have to do *insert excuse*. I then go complete them and exceed in the tasks to a better level than some of the managers can attain and it is never enough

I even completed a apprenticeship to help me get into a management position and once completed i still got refused to be placed on the management scheme.

i am now looking out of Tesco because i can no longer move forward in the company

the average day at work consisted of me standing around doing nothing unless a customer requested my assistance or I spent the day cleaning all of the scanning monitors for the next customer to use them.
I learned to adapt my people skills and now I am comfortable with offering help and assisting people.
my co-workers were very helpful and welcoming.
the hardest part of my job was the standing around, I prefer to be busy and active when working.
the most enjoyable part of my job was the assisting customers when they required my help and making conversation with them because some of the conversations were very uplifting and humorous. Also, working along side my colleagues as a support.

what cuts in staff are missing people in stores one person has to perform three or four tasks at the same time.At the same time, I am putting out the goods, taking orders whoosh, and serving customers. This is an unimaginable burden and burden for a normal person...Management regional manager always completes and reports any shortcomings, there is always something wrong...The company has a very developed policy but it does not care about people. Only we are the pure profit, money counts.

Stacking shelves ,cashing up ,working under pressue and also how to deal with difficult customers.
I have learned basic customer service skills how to work quickly and effiently under pressure how to stock rotare and how to use the tilss quickly and ensuring i give the right change.
My co workers were lovely and i listened alot to them to ensure i do well at the job in hand .
The most enjoyable part was meeting new people the worst part was the hours did not fit around family life .

Tesco is a very enjoyable place to work most of the time. However, management can make that hard as in any retail environment. Tesco is no better in terms of the culture than any other retailer and I personally feel I did not get much support to progress despite making it clear that's what I wanted to pursue. For a retail job the pay is very good. They pay goes up to £9 per hour in September 2019 for a standard general assistant. The 10% employee discount is also another very nice extra. Overall Tesco is a good place to work if you need a part time job to help you through school or if you are genuinely passionate about retail.
