The organization does good mission-driven work. It has been around for awhile and is not your average non-profit. It has plenty of resources and the staff is comprised of great people. However, recently it looks like things have taken a turn for the worse. Turnover is high, firing of staff happens with no explanation. Here one day, gone the next. Well seasoned respected staffers have been driven off.  There is chatter about the whys of these events, but it seems to boil down to bad management on several levels. There is a good ol boys club feel with friends/ family of higher ups being brought on board for jobs and newly created positions.  A typical day is similar to government jobs with similar hours. Work culture varies by department but common threads are: not criticizing management, some managers in real need of advance management training, and a lack of basic communication skills. It seems there are favorites within the staff that can do no wrong. It has set up situations of double standards. Some managers can be extremely negative and will routinely point out all the "bad" things you've done while ignoring the good achievements. That kind of intimidation is not a management style. The best parts of the job are definitely the people you work with in the trenches and the services provided to members.  The hardest part of the job is seeing really good people be fired, leave or be driven out. The job itself is rewarding but the stress of how people are poorly managed is taking a toll. The impression is that staff are disposable and it has become the norm.

I recently started working as a temp. for Texas Association of Counties and have really enjoyed working here.  The people are very friendly and there is a great atmosphere and general support system.  I hope to move to a more permanent position and have observed a potential for growth within the company.  TAC offers a wide range of job opportunities and I highly recommend working with this company!

Staying on top of things.
With reports and daily updates.

Learned a lot about the judicial part of the court, unfortunately due to employee going to another department her workload of reconciliation was added to my workload without consideration of my knowledge of bookkeeping experience. Not able to keep up with daily duties due to this being added to my workload and subsequently failed to meet department standard.

Plan, organize and prioritize daily, working under stress that requires constant attention to detail and tight deadlines, handling confidential matters and public concerns with little or no supervision.  Enjoyed meeting and helping the citizens within the county.

Zero job security and little opportunity for advancement.  Senior Management expresses the attitude (it's good to be king)and manages by knee-jerk,emotional response.  No loyalty or appreciation to employees, everyone is dispensible and will be if they hang around long enough.

I enjoyed working with all of my colleagues as well as my internal and external customers, but a specific group was offered a voluntary separation package and I accepted and that is the reason I no longer work at this company

I would have liked to have known what I was lacking in job duties so that I would have had a chance to correct myself and done better. They assumed I was able to handle another employees accounting duties ( because she was promoted) and I had not indicated I was familiar with reconciliation nor accounting on my application.

Good Place. Good community. Daily contact with the public. Nothing really much to say. I would recommend anyone to work there. Monitor Youth during there recreation period. Transport youth to different facilities, and also hospitals. Assist dorm staff during meal movement or emergency searches in dorms.

I retired from TAC and enjoyed working there and would have continued but I need a change and wanted to work part time to spend more time with my family.
