Working at Texas Materials was a mixed experience. A typical day involved fast-paced batching operations and dispatching trucks. I learned about concrete technology and safety compliance. Management varied; some were supportive, while others lacked communication. The workplace culture was safety-oriented but lacked cohesion. The hardest part was dealing with inconsistent management styles. However, the most enjoyable part was the sense of accomplishment when ensuring concrete quality and completing orders on time.

Additionally, I had no work/life balance. Everyone got the next day's schedule around 5 pm the day prior. The majority of the start times were before midnight, leaving me unable to get the proper rest considering the drive times to and from home. The job is weather-dependent, and you may not be scheduled at all. The unknown schedule was the worst part for me. The most irritating part was if my location had no work, I would plan to be off that day but would be on will-call 24 hours a day to be called into another location and not compensated for the extra travel time.

You get paid every week... that's about the only good thing at Texas Materials

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Long hours that place your CDL at risk for suspension. You never know what time you will finish work, plan to work 12 to 16 hrs. You also get short notices, for example, after 2 pm on a Friday you will find out you need to come in on Saturday. That is a regular occurrence. You will be asked to switch over to night work then back to day within the same week. Managers are highly inept and primarily in the way of progress. I can go on but I think anyone reading this understands how revolting it is to work for this company

The work environment is a black hole that swallows all morale. Favoritism is abundant as well

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I Go in to work and forget I have a family and responsibilities to my family. My wife is on her own to handle the children when I'm at work

Benefits package isn’t bad, and there’s usually work when weather permits.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Instructions are constantly changing as well as conflicting instructions on a consistent basis. Many times those in supervisory positions fail to follow up on even simple requests. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Unfortunately, it was my experience as being a very toxic overall work environment, with a consistent culture of favoritism. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Mainly repetitive for the most part. Usually early morning start. However, there’s never a set stopping time. Many times when the initial load volume is met there will be an increase that requires the employee to be at the mercy of whoever is deciding on increases at the last minute.

Your experience working for a massive corporation such as Texas Materials (CRH) will heavily depend on your local/regional management team. The company as a whole is well structured, so if your direct supervisors are quality leaders then it can be a great place to work. In my experience as a project manager, the company really put in effort to bring in quality people in order to build and maintain a good culture. You'll have decent work/life balance and freedom to establish your own management style, within the broad confines of the CRH model of course. They do offer great benefits and job security, but the pay is very average. One aspect that stood out for me is that CRH will never shy away from providing training opportunities to their employees. You will also have the opportunity to climb the corporate ladder if you so choose.

Everything the care the company shows for it’s workers and attention they give us

Well for me that sometimes we have wait for the dump truck to start our job

Is good and peacefull respectfully and calm

Get my job done and learning more evryday

I like this job, been with them for 5yrs. Just treated & paid poorly. Never get recognized for the good jobs i’ve done but only when i make mistakes. I was a “traffic control lead” put was getting paid the same as the new hires. Company cares about production than saftey. Bad communication.  Didnt want to leave but i had to put my foot down at some point, my patience ran out

Great benefits. Salary employees enjoy corporate work retreats, discounts, and bonuses. Only speaking for accounting department. High turnover, severe lack of communication from supervisors, a general sense of being just another body. Not appreciated, recognized, noticed, rewarded for hard work or effort. Very heavy workload, rigid deadlines and financial calendar,. Management should consider cross-training.

No stress as long as you stay prayed up.

A big wonderful family! Everyone works together to achieve greatness.

Sometimes long ,sometimes short. But with great training you're prepared for anything.

Steady work.and the pay isn't bad.

It's a very big company, but little to no room for advancement. Especially if you start as a laborer and work your way up.

Sometimes it's busy and sometimes it's not. Generally you stay busy with something.
