I left Texas Mutual in order to care for my child.  It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make.  Texas Mutual has such a great culture.  Management really cares about their people.  I was given many opportunities to grow and learn a great deal.  What makes the company so great is the people who work there.  There are so many individuals who are willing to teach you everything they know.  You see real friends who are there for each other personally and professionally.

I will say that the standards are high, higher than many other companies.  However, that is one of the things I enjoyed most.  If you want to be challenged and want to grow personally and professionally, Texas Mutual is the place to be.  

Lastly, I will add that the company is highly involved with the community. The president has done a great job creating lots of different opportunities to volunteer.  You'll have no issue finding something to get involved in.  For those interested in making a difference, you'll be happy there.

Investigate new claims and day to day claims handling. I also handled Coverage B or Part II of the insured's workers' compensation policy (Employers Liability). This is the first employer that I had handled EL claims for and I learned all I know from the SR. EL adjuster. I loved my co-workers and enjoyed worker for TMI for almost 10 years until a co-worker became my supervisor. The hardest part of my job was the claim count and the fact that you had to work 60 plus hours a week in order to get it done. Some of the death claims were very challenging as far as dealing with an angry widow or widower in their time of grief.  The most enjoyable part of my job was providing the help and assistance that the injured employees, the insured's and any other parties involved with the claims needed in order to satisfy them.

Tremendous interaction with external and internal customers via phone presence, mail/fax communications, and inter-regional office communications. Learned inner workings of workers' compensation insurance industry and exposed to all facets of insurance coverage for businesses choosing to carry workers' comp. Also learned that this company paid dividends back to policyholders, strengthening business relationships. The culture is very well structured and profit-based. The workplace culture includes decisions made by a board and chief executive and implemented by departments. The hardest part of the job is being more isolated from the whole company in a smaller regional office. The most enjoyable part of the job is satisfaction from helping policyholders.

The company is 25 years old and many employees in leadership positions have been there for 15-20+ years.  If you want to coast and not advance in your career field, this is the place for you.

The technology seems to be ancient.  The pay scale does not seem to be inline with many other area companies (eg. Dell, PayPal, Google).

The dress code is stringent.  Jeans are only allowed on Fridays.  Some departments were able to work remotely, but others were not.  Employees are not developed to move along a career path.  In fact, there are no clearly-defined career paths.

The direct hire position I held at this company involved prepping items to be scanned into the computer system the first half of the day, and indexing those items the second half of the day into three separate computer systems so that all involved personnel could view them, etc.  The management depended upon what department you were working in.  All of the departments varied a great deal.  The hardest part of my position was keeping my wrists in good shape at the rate in which I type.  The most enjoyable part of the job was the long lasting friendships I gained.

Position provided potential for growth based on merit performance my professional years of experience. A typical required detailed-oriented and a multi-tasked individual in relations to all time sensitive material per DWC rules and regulations which was the hardest part of the day and challenging . Great communication skills cannot be underestimated as an indemnity adjuster it is required to keep both the clients and injured worker educated to the right and obligations of both parties. I am a highly self-motivated individual and team player.

Overall, the company is great. They stand by their employees and foster a family atmosphere. However, they underpay their adjusters in comparison to other companies and expect the most out of them. Adjusters are overworked and underpaid. Management does not stand up to policyholders that are abusive - they hold the "customer is always right" mentality, which is not fair to the employees. The amount of work is unrealistic. If you like being an adjuster, consider a company that will pay you fairly. 

It was like working in Junior High. Very clickish. NO TRAINING. SET UP TO FAIL if they didn't like you. Terrified employees (even employees of 20+ years - as in they would get in trouble at work for being seen talking to me at a grocery store). No security unless you are a favorite. I worked 12 hours per day trying to teach myself and learn and on Saturdays. No lunch. No break. I'd ask my Manager for help. She'd tell me one thing, then 1 to 2 days later I'd get in trouble for not doing something ON THE SAME THING I had ask for help on. Couldn't defend myself in meetings with my Manager and Senior Manager. Horrible place.

What is the best part of working at the company?
You never have to think for yourself.  You are a tool, so act like one.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
They have no loyalty to anyone, so tenure is not a positive. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Poisonous.  A lot of management decisions based on very immature and naive managers.  Promotion is seldom on merit.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
8-5, M-F, do your job with very little variation, and input is not welcome.

The company is not a bad place to work for but as an adjuster, they will work, work, and over work you to death. The phones are non stop, everyone is always demanding everything, the job itself is not the standard 40 hours per week unless you are the type that slacks off and don't put forth the effort of trying to do a decent job. And if you need to work overtime hours, it's like an act of congress to get it approved. Their job processes are unrealistic and you have some employees that are suffering from burnout. The company isn't bad if you don't have to do anything claim related.
