Texas Oncology

Save yourself the time, and do not consider this as a future workplace. It may seem like a great opportunity but it is not.
The only thing beneficial to this job is the patients and striving to be the best employee for the sake of them. 
Management: non existent, will ignore any requests (postive and negative), verbally abusive and yell, they will not inform you of any changes, no staff meetings at all, gossip about doctors, workers, and say things that should not be said to lower level employees about situations, play favoritism, they truly do not care about their employees 
Pay: fairly decent starting pay if you hassle with them from the start, but once hired on you are stuck there, there is only annual raises (30-60 cents) they recently gave  an overall cost of living raise (only .75 % so about 18 cents), there is absolutely no incentives or rewards for the work you do, no bonuses ever, any raise requests will be ignored
Benefits: there is a rewards program IF you have knowledge of it and use it, the PTO is fair if you are approved off and allowed to use it, insurance is cost efficient to employees 
The work: You are expected to do the job of 3 people with no reward. Very unorganized and hectic with no change in the foreseeable future to help this. The turnover rate here is the worst I have ever witnessed, and instead of getting to the bottom of why they let employees move on and attempt to replace them, I’ve watched several outstanding employees come and go who would of been a great asset, however they could not stick it out and we lost them. 

Overall, I am leaving an honest review, try looking elsewhere. There are many other job opportunities out there. 


Texas Oncology is a quality organization with a passion to make a difference in the lives of individuals who are battling cancer. They impart a team effort and promote a feeling of "family" between the physicians, employees and patients.
     A typical day of work involves preparation for patient appointments by verifying insurance, developing estimates for treatments or drug regimens, making and receiving patient phone calls, meeting with patients to discuss payment options, collect payments and investigate patient assistance programs tailored to the diagnosis and needs of the patient financially.
     I learned much about the broad range of healthcare coverage as well as how the physicians interact with both patients and team members. 
     Our management team was always encouraging, desiring to bring out the best in each of us. All of local management was approachable.
     The workplace culture is that of team work. We strive to provide the very best in care and support of our patients as well as our co-workers.
      The hardest part of the job is keeping up with the workload, as there are multiple assignments to be completed during the course of the day, with 100% accuracy being the goal.
      The most enjoyable part of the job is the interaction with the patients, developing a relationship with them and helping them walk through one of the most difficult times in their lives.

A typical day of work for me at Texas Oncology was greeting and checking in over 100 patients.  It was very fast paced, and I was required to be helpful, upbeat, accommodating, empathetic, and accurate to each and every one of the patients I checked in.  I learned that I am very capable of keeping up a fast pace while getting my job done, but that I also could make the time to help the patients, who are going through a very difficult time, feel more at ease, more like a person than a number, and overall made some close relationships.  The hardest part of my job was seeing people go from vibrant and seemingly healthy to weak and sickly.  The most enjoyable part of my job was feeling that I could make at least part of a person's day a little bit brighter and maybe take their mind off of things, if only for a few minutes.  The culture of Texas Oncology overall is very patient-oriented.  Every employee is there to help the patient, and I never felt that anyone there didn't have that goal in mind each and every day.  The upper management for my particular office, however, could have been a little more interested in the patient and a little less interested in policies and procedures.  Overall, Texas Oncology was a good place to work - not great.

TXO is very mismanaged. People get promoted to the level of incompetency, such as life long good biller becomes unexperienced manager because he or she has been with the company  long enough and will make "great" manager and the disaster begins. To build team requires extra skills not just a knowledge how to process claims or work schedules. They don't have or hire educated and skilled individuals. Very high turn around of staff with very little resources to keep people in the company.  HR team very slow and not effective when in comes to recruitment of new talents. Sometimes people have to cover two positions and front office might be required to do work of back office, which adds away too much work and people start looking for other jobs.  Again management does  nothing or very little  to appreciate those extras from people, because they former billers or patients benefits reps and don't get a big picture. Company offers good holiday pay and vocation time. They offer 3 weeks and all federal holidays, which adds to one month of PTO. Very nice. Insurance could be a bit more affordable for such a big institution. Overall you will get ample experience, but work life balance will be hard.

I've worked here since 2017 and I have seen just about everyone quit. Management is terrible and it keeps getting worse every year. While the doctors are good at their job with the patients they are down right awful to work for and the culture in this company is toxic. Expectations vs. reality are not aligned with the current healthcare landscape. HR is a joke and allow workers to say and so just about whatever they want and leave the middle management in the lurch with bad employees while their good workers suffer for their coworkers. I've been talked down to and when OT got out of control and I spent more time at work than at home I was told it was a right to work state and I could leave if I didn't like it. I've had 4 managers and three directors in the time I've been here and each are worse in ways than the last.

Stay away if you value your family, sanity and your soul. If I didn't have to support my family I would have been gone by now.

I was with this Company for 10 years, early years were good, learned a lot, good management. Current Nurse Manager retired. This is where things went South. Company moved a nurse up to Nurse Manager position. She had no experience with being a supervisor. She began to “get rid of “ nurses who had been with company for years. And replace those nurses with her friends. She would degrade and torment the nurse until  had written them up enough to make her look and feel very degraded. She would also in list the help of other nurses working closely with her. They would spy on a particular nurse, and twist things the nurse did to sound worse than it appeared, or worse out right lie. These people would be friendly to her face and then turn around a spread rumors about them to other staff. The sad part is “Everyone” knew this was going on, but upper management seemed to be scared of confrontation with this Nurse Manager. Very sad situation. This nurse retired early because she feared for her license. I would not recommend working there. Most were persecuted because of there faith, or outcasted if they did not “go along with the crowd.

Unable to keep nurses in this clinic.  There is no leadership.  The clinic is driven by medical assistants with RN support as needed.  The RN schedules and administers medications as needed, sets up some procedures, makes sure all radiation therapies requiring preauthorization are sent to the insurance people for authorization.  All patient phone calls go to the nurse for symptom management, refill requests and leave requests.  There is no supervision unless the doctors are unhappy.  The supervisory person remains at the other downtown location.  There is never any encouragement or positive feedback.  The most difficult part of the job was constantly being the only RN.  There were originally 3 but they could not keep nurses.  A big part of the problem was poor communication and too much work for one person.

The actual office I work in is a satellite office.  The culture in this office is awesome.  The doctor I work for is the most caring and empathetic doctor I have met.  Unfortunately, there are no managers at this office but they seem to think they know how this office works.  I do more work than any other medical assistant in this company.  All extra work is ALWAYS given to me so my plate is very full.  This company prefers to hire outside of the office for positions and has never promoted within the company.  In the medical assistant position there is no advancement opportunities unless you go to nursing school.  The raises are horrible and they are very stingy with the money they have allotted.  Anytime something changes management does not explain to you what to do, they wait until you do something wrong then send you videos on how to do it.  In this office the doctor is very partial to her clinical nurse and they are very buddy buddy with each other.  This becomes a problem when the nurse lies and the doctor only believes what the nurse says.  I have had no issues with this company except for the fact that they do discriminate against your age when it comes to promotions.

I don’t think poorly of Texas Oncology as a company but the Webster, TX location is very poorly managed...especially nurses. Bullying/harassment by nurses is a huge issue and has been for years but management does nothing about it. Nurse manager throws her own staff under the bus instead of supporting them. There’s no onboarding or training, no orientation, no guidelines, no support. Culture and working environment is the worst I’ve ever witnessed. No respect, no boundaries, no integrity. I have friends at other locations that have a difference experience and I attribute that to management. Good managers=productive happy employees and positive culture. Bad management=circus called Deke. The patients are amazing and that is 100% the best part of going to work there but they are also noticing the change in the service/care they receive due to lack of management. I would recommend working for Texas Oncology but not the Webster location.

I gave 3 stars only because of positive experience of working with such incredible patients. If I could give no stars for work environment/culture/support I would.

I've been with Tx Oncology for little over 6 years now in the business office. Job title & duties have changed several times over the years. Some for the best, others not so much, especially when the change comes from individuals that have never done the job or know what all is involved. I multitask & adapt to frequent changes in order to survive. Business office manager is awesome, available & approachable. Always willing to hear new ideas for change within the office. 
Both Waco locations have great staff & physicians to work with. All departments work together for the same goal, great patient care.  Hours are great, lunches are short, but it's manageable. 
There is no incentive to "do more". There have been some promises (incentives) for special projects that were completed, yet they were never fulfilled. Annual review increases could be more, as well as the pay. 
Several opportunities for community involvement with various events around town.
