I had the privilege of working with an exceptional clinical care team at Texas Rehab Arlington. The doctors/residents, nurses, therapy, case managers, food and nutrition services, and maintenance teams genuinely care about their patients and work tirelessly to provide the best care possible. They were supportive colleagues who made challenging days more manageable, and their dedication is truly commendable.

However, my experience with administration was disappointing. The leadership, including the CEO and my direct supervisor, was unsupportive and failed to foster a positive work environment. Salary and raise opportunities were misrepresented, and taking vacation days was made unnecessarily difficult due to staffing shortages and the expectation that I arrange my own coverage, often relying on other facilities.
The CEO’s verbal and alleged physical behavior toward employees created a hostile atmosphere, and her involvement in patient care planning appeared to prioritize financial outcomes over patient well-being and clinical team recommendations. Additionally, many policies and procedures were outdated and in need of revisions to align with current clinical best practices.

I would have loved to stay in my position, but unfortunately made the decision to leave due to the mistreatment I received directly from the CEO and leadership in administration. If you don’t care about the people who provide care, how can you care about the patients?

Despite these challenges, the care team’s commitment to their patients and each other kept me motivated. I firmly believe that if the hospital invested more in its employees, prioritized patient services, and committed to improving the overall quality of care and facility operations, it could significantly enhance both employee satisfaction and patient outcomes.

This facility is very much sanctioned.  The administration does not communicate with the nursing, therefore the facility can end up short-staffed.  The therapists will work with patients and then not communicate with the nursing staff, so if a bed alarm has been removed from a high-risk patient, no one will know until the patient falls or is found where they don't need to be.  If administration is pushing for a higher census and more new patients, no one will check if there will be any housekeeping to see if there will be enough cleaned and cleared patient rooms.  As for my position, I have emailed the necessary administrators for more training, per the request and belittlement of the Medical Director, and my email has gone unanswered for months.  If you work in administration, they all go out to lunch, if you work with therapy, you participate in very separate activities, and if you work with nursing, most times than not, you are overworked and understaffed.  My position as secretary leaves for every department to treat me very poorly, and there are no chances to move up into this company or receive any raises.

I was employed as a dietary aide for 2.5 years at Texas Rehabilitation Hospital. I enjoyed most of my job once I had memorized which cold sides were expected. That part of the position was fairly easy; I have cooked for years. I would still check with the cooks for any differences they might want in these cold sides.  That seemed to be a problem which rather stunned me because I like to get the preparation exactly right the first time. Time sometimes seemed to be a factor in my preparation because time is NOT factored into the sides. Thus if a person takes longer than is allowed before serving these items then the person is blamed. I found this frustrating because even if I prepared at the speed of light, the work would not be timely with too many sides expected. We had 5 managers in 2.5 years. 
I was given 2 loads of dishes for my shift. I was told how to "cheat" on the dishes but I refused to "cheat" as the patients' health could be in jeopardy. I found that this hospital has a cohesive physical therapy department who did their jobs without downgrading each other. 


What is the best part of working at the company?
The support from the nurse managers and self scheduling. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
When I left the company, they were in the process of changing the max patient ratio to 8. Not sure if it happened. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Positive. Most staff is competent, the therapy program is amazing, tho some therapy staff can overstep which is not unheard of. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Positive. I worked days and they went pretty quickly. The physicians and specialists are pretty nice, easy to reach and communicate with. One charge nurse for the building which was nice. Shift change meeting twice a day to go over the patients...that was really helpful to keep updated about patient matters. Weekly team meetings for patients.They have a fountain machine in the cafeteria which was free for employees.

A typical day at work is pretty consistent on job duties, exercise routines with patients, and cleaning equipment. I learn different techniques, skills,and exercises to help patients recover from injuries, surgeries, or accidents. I also, learn more about my desire career, Physical Therapy, and work with a good group of people. Management could be a lot better in many areas of the department. The workplace creates a great environment for both employees and patients. The hardest part of the job can sometimes be transferring patients, but assistance is available so that makes it easier. The most enjoyable part of the job is seeing patients complete the rehabilitation program, and going back home in a better condition.

This hospital is committed to great patient care and is a very collaborative and supportive environment throughout many different disciplines. Management is always attentive and accommodating as much as able. Working in this setting can be difficult as while it isn't an emergency room, it is still a hospital and things can change in a blink of an eye but they try their best to limit that. Overall, the people who work there, the people who come for help, and the people who support the patients are of exceptional quality and make working there a very positive experience.

Over the last 12-18 months, there has been massive turn over in Business Development.  There is very little support from leadership, local or corporate.  As part of the position, they tell you about the potential to bonus.  There is no such potential.  The team has not bonused in over a year.  The BD team is overworked and underpaid with unrealistic expectations to work outside of normal working hours in order for the job to be completed.  They expect the Clinical Liaisons to be onsite, in their accounts 8 hrs a day, plus available after hours.  It is highly micromanaged.  If you cherish your family life and your mental health, do not work here.  

Typical day included interacting and getting patients involved in daily interventions planned by the therapists. Different patients have different engagement strategies to enhance their therapy sessions; each patient is different and a therapist must be quick to know what works for what patient in order to perform interventions and activities.
Hardest part of the job was the initial process of getting the patient up after surgery. Most enjoyable part was getting to know the patient and helping them achieve their goals.

Typical day is busy. I get to enhance my skills. Management is poor at listening to employees’ feedback, they expect so much but does not meet necessities / basic supplies needed due to minimizing their budget. Workplace culture is fair, team work does exist. Hardest part of the job is trying to meet their unrealistic expectations (i.e. taking care of an impulsive patient at high risk for falls and will never be provided 1:1 sitter). Most enjoyable part of the job is giving hand off report to on-coming nurse knowing that you survived the almost impossible.

Everyone was so helpful and greeted me with open arms. Also the hours were great and the building was nice and clean .

To be honest I really didn’t have any negative moments.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It was a great place to work and very helpful.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Getting straight to cleaning the public restrooms and all the deep cleans when the patients would be discharging.
