There is no room for advancement. Management pulls from their own connections. There is a serious disconnect from management and clinicians. They don't value the clinicians input or want their feedback. Management level is primarily nursing and not mental health clinicians.. poor ability to manage poor staff morale, problem solving, conflict management. The only reason any good work happens there is  because of the clinicians, working in spite of many challenges constructed to work against them. They don't prioritize understanding about the cause of staff turn over. Many of the   employees stick together to try to support each other. There can be negativity among staff due ti being worn down and sense of helplessness to affect positive change.  Patients often have to navigate all manner of shifting circumstances due ti no organization. Important pieces that can yield significant benefit may fall through the cracks. 

I enjoyed my day-to-day responsibilities overall, and interacting with patients was the most rewarding part of the role.

However, the workplace culture was a significant challenge and ultimately led to my decision to leave. There was a noticeable lack of professionalism at times, including gossip, limited boundaries, and a cliquish environment that made it difficult to feel fully supported as a new and long-term employee.

I also made several attempts to advance within the organization but did not receive any feedback or guidance from leadership, which made growth opportunities feel unclear and discouraging.

That said, I gained valuable experience working with diverse individuals and developed strong interpersonal skills, which I appreciate.

The organization does offer some positives, including holiday events, occasional catered meals, cafeteria lunch options, generally approved PTO, and bonus opportunities for picking up additional shifts depending on the role. The work itself also provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on others.

The hospital continues to use paper charting for notes despite being fined for doing so. No EMR to speak of for clinical staff. Staff are overworked and underpaid. As an outpatient therapist you will continually see malingering patients from Ford that will disrupt your ability to provide therapy to the few patients who actually need it. We were buried in paperwork when I was there and upper management didn't seem to value our role beyond our ability to allow them to bill for services. Workplace culture for the hospital at large can be summed up as "This place is like family" which I heard at least a few times - you can Google that and find out what it actually means if you're not already aware. Coworker comradery among our department was the best part of the job, though, and the staff in the department while I was there was top notch despite the lack of support we were given.

No advancement at ALL. There are only 2 nurse managers, they will probably never leave, so as a nurse you MAY possibly become a nurse supervisor at most which may be the most stressful position there. Very very high turnover rate, that's why its always advertising available positions. Current employees pay rate breaks even with a raise because of the insurance rate hikes each year. The ONLY time you benefit is when they hire you, because they pay new employees more than the current employees, even the ones who've been there ten years or more.  Unsafe environment as well.

Some days working here are great some days are tough. You get to give back to the community and have a sense of camaraderie with your team. A lot of people stay because of their coworkers, benefits, the sense of “helping” or wanting to finish school with some experience in the mental health world. But management has a history of making things difficult on top of working with a difficult population. Administration has a reputation for making this harder for the people on the lower rungs and not offering much support. A lot of people leave for that reason.

Everyone is welcoming. The job is easy to learn and they provide bonuses for full time and part time employees.

The paperwork. They need a better system like yesterday.

It’s helpful and more like family everyone is very friendly 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I work nights so it’s chill with occasional stressful moments.

This company lacks organization and proper leadership. This company is run without the best interest of the people it serves. Leadership does not promote cohesion. The facility is not a safe work environment as there is no security. As an employee there I witnessed many concerning practices. This is a place that should be reported and inspected. If you hold licensure the company does not work to support you in times of crisis with a patient. There is also a lack of inclusivity.

There is such a low morale, low pay, upper management only looking at the dollar signs and potentially putting us all at risk taking patients without knowing their COVID status. This place is a joke, they are only interested in making money, they lie to get patients in to make money, while not giving any of that money back to the people working the front lines. The hospital is not clean, has mold and not disinfected regularly. Please look elsewhere if you are wanting decent pay and a clean, safe hospital.

Dealing with aggressive patients

Excellent management!  Teamwork with coworkers 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy with adm and discharges. We have only one adult unit and the rest are kids as young as 5

I worked at The Brook Hospital - KMI for nearly three years. It is an incredibly chaotic environment, and you must be willing to accept that your schedule hardly ever goes according to plan.

Compensation is fair compared to other mental health facilities. Leadership (CEO, admissions coordinators, etc.) tend to be ignorant to actual mental health treatment, and this led to a lot of frustration.

I am thankful for the experience I gained while here, but you could not pay be to go back.
