The Coding Network

My time working with TCN was generally good, but the company has its issues. The main problem I felt more often than not was the over-utilization of contractors and their overstepping into "employee" territory with how folk were treated. This was especially true of the IT department and most management. 

This is a cloud company, so everyone is remote work from home. There are no benefits due to contract only work. The pay is monthly, and varies on what day due to shifting weekend/holidays so it is usually by the 6th of the month. Again, this is a 1099 situation. They do not take out taxes or  SS

The pay was solid and overall I was happy doing the work. But, like all companies, upper management/management decision making was very... questionable.

Simply the worst onboarding experience I’ve ever had. Technical issues on their end with completing their unpaid onboarding training.  All anyone could do was accuse me and tell me to take the trainings over and over. An insane waste of time. I ended my contract after only 5 days. Plus they want to hijack your personal computer and not let you be able to take your own computer to get fixed  and even tell you to set your computer to factory settings after coding with them. Luckily, it never got that far. They also want you to spend $99 to get disk encryption. And they make you follow a schedule and tell them when you want to take time off. That’s not how 1099 works. We’re not employees. This is by far the worst most toxic company I almost worked with this and so glad I didn’t. Stay far away from this one! 

I took them almost a year after getting on board with them to give me any work.

Once you do get work, you have to do another tedious screening process.

The only one work they have ever gotten for me, the client took all the work I was suppose to do away.  The  TCN project manager had no explanation to what happen or follow up.  

During periods of no work given, they make you do these cyber security awareness videos and tests.  You do not get paid for your time doing this.  Just because one contractor opened some shady email, everyone else had to suffer for it and its seemingly has to be repeated every time it happens.  If they gave me any work I would say its worth the time, but they're not giving me any work and asking me to do things that wastes my time.

I have worked with TCN for over 2 years and have always have a good experience until recently. I didn’t feel valued as an employee. Money means more to them than making sure their workers understand the assignment. Upon disagreements it was decided we should part ways. They didn’t wanna hear my side. If you disagree with their auditor you will have issues. There is no room for your voice even if you are just trying to help. While the flexibility is nice it’s not worth all the stress of having to make corrections based on the audit with zero pay- given the lack of direction. Our time should be just as valuable as the client and it hasn’t felt like that recently. 

The coders are high quality and most are a joy to work with. There are resources available if you look for it. The hours are not dictated to you by the company. You just need to meet the expectations of the client. 

The feedback from the management is never positive. Either feedback is negative or none at all. The work can be inconsistent. There are no increases in pay and no negotiation of compensation. There is not a known structure for the company.  Your picture as a contractor is narrow.  You only know the limited amount told to you. Information about work load and client assignments is not forth coming. 

I don't recommend it as a primary job, but good for a second income.

TCN is an excellent place to work. In this role I was a contractor, which is perfect for schedule flexibility and work-life balance. The pay is competitive and most contracts allow you to work more than your contracted hours if you need to increase your income. 
The downside is that as a contractor, if your client drops TCN, you also end up without work. In some coding specialties, you can be without another client for months. So there is less security as a contractor. There are also no additional benefits beyond pay per report or sometimes hourly rates. 

TCN does not hire coders, we are all independent contractors. The recent trend is to "hire" too many coders while losing clients at the same time, creating a situation where there isn't enough work for anyone. There is no room for advancement and the per diem rate has gone up once in their entire history. The good part is the flexible hours, the managers are nice people, and the pay is good if you can get any work.

The Coding Network is a phenomenal company to work for. The work is stable and management is always there for you if you have any questions or concerns. The pay is extremely competitive and it is by far the best company that I have worked at. You set your own hours and work remotely, which is especially wonderful during the pandemic. 

The Coding Network hires medical coders as private contractors to work from home. Therefore, there are no benefits such as PTO, health insurance, 401k, etc. 
The greatest benefit of working from home is making your own hours.  The compensation is based on production and is very adequate.  Also, the management team is always there to help with any questions or problems that arise.

I have been working this company for few years and I have no complains.
During the pandemic time, it was very challenging for all employees but I feel they encouraged us really well.
Directors and managers are amazing. When I have coding questions, they respond properly.
