If you are a MSW or on that track, stay away from the Adult Community Services Program. More so, if you've a graduate degree stay away because your expertise and experience will outweigh the team managers. The ACS program is a program that addresses the needs of complex medically needy adults and children, but you will not receive much support from the director and team managers to address your own self preservation and need to feel like a valued employee. More so, you will receive no clinical feedback to deal with clients whose primary diagnosis is mental illness because the team managers don't have the expertise to assist you. While you are allowed to telework, the main focus of the ACS program is Billing, Billing, and more Billing. You don't get credit for travel time and or required meeting times and will need to make up the time by working long, tireless hours that exceed an 8 hour day but can only bill for 7 hours a day. Makes no sense!!! The work place used to have a sense of team but not anymore, and no one in management seems to care. This is an agency that sets a high standard for clients but not for certain programs and especially not for Support Planners.

This place has gone through a lot of changes in the last few years. The job requirements changes so frequently that the lack of consistency regarding contractual requirements creates job confusion and frustration. It's almost impossible to grow and advance at this place of employment. Those who work frequently in the office seem to have an advantage over those who work at home consistently because they are the ones who seem to move into management quicker. The job offers little emotional support to case managers who may experience case load stressors and balance. Management especially the ACS manager presents at though they are so supportive but the reality is that you are extremely disposable. Employees often receive late emails about people who were "let go" or quit in prior weeks without even allowing co-workers to even say "bye." Overall, this is a paycheck and job experience if you need it but not very rewarding. They are so concerned about "billing" there is no room for team building or "down time" to get to know our co-workers.

I worked as a Care Manager at TCC for over 7 years. Management was very cliquey....if you weren't there from the beginning, you best keep your mouth shut. And don't dare express opinions contrary to those of the "politically correct" management. You would be ridiculed. There were advancement opportunities, but once you reached a higher level position there was little support and training from upper management but high expectations placed upon you in your new role. Morale definitely suffered. TCC was growing when I worked there and apparently has continued to do so, to the detriment of the core values upon which it was founded. The travel, not so great...lots of mileage on your vehicle. They also seemed to hire people who were not the right fit for their particular job when they needed bodies to fill positions, only to "let them go" later on. It's a shame because TCC was highly regarded in the DD community and it seems that unbridled growth has been detrimental. On the positive side, there were a number of very nice dedicated people working there, and they tried to support each other when possible.

This is a great place to start a career in human services. However, there is little opportunity to advance or grow. People in leadership have a negative view of staff. They repeat the refrain of appreciating staff in meetings, but they keep wages low, caseloads high, and billing requirements high. If you happen to stumble into a conversation where leadership is being sincere, you will hear how incompetant and lazy they think their "co-workers" are. Promotions are not based on merit or track record. You have to be great at brown-nosing as evidenced by incompetent leadership installed in key state contracts. Again, it is a great place to start. Cut and run in a year or you will be stuck in a cycle of low wages and overwork. "Leadership", you all love to promote your commitment to community service. Consider this. Some of your employees have to rely on the programs you volunteer at in order to make ends meet on the sorry wages you pay? Charity begins at home. 

Worked together with care management nurses and social workers to coordinate health and development services for young children with specialized medical needs. Worked together with and maintained service coordination contracts with several local Infants and Toddlers Programs in Maryland.

Very supportive management and co-workers. Very knowledgeable and professional staff. Many opportunities for growth and development through participation in additional curriculum development and presentation projects. 

The most difficult part of the job was that the position was grant funded through the Maryland Infants and Toddlers Program on a yearly basis. Services of the agency were state-wide so position often required traveling.

This job would be perfect is the salary was about $5000-$6000 more. They continue to put more work on you, but the salary remains the same. They claim they are working on increasing the salary, possibly, but don’t seem to truly have an anticipated timeframe. Other agencies that are identical to this one get paid up to $7000 more to do the same exact job! They also screw you on mileage. Mileage doesn’t count unless you go over 25 miles. Other agencies similar to this one pays mileage starting from the first mile. There are also other positions that barely do any work, but get paid more than the Supports Planners. The best thing about this job is the ability to telework. The president of the agency highly respects teleworking and having a great work/life balance. 

Initially when hired I was so excited to work for the company.  The job can be very complex and training is intense.  You are supposed to manage a significant number of caseloads, ensure your billable hours are complete, visit clients...I mean the list goes on.  My supervisor was very condescending and rude since day one.  It caused me to essentially resign as I did not feel supported.  Instead, I was always made to feel like I was incompetent.  I honestly believe that was her tactic to get me to leave.  Many others on my team had similar issues, but were afraid to speak up in fear of retaliation.  When working in office, people appeared very cliquey or would not engage at all.  Work environment wayyyyy too quiet.  I did not always feel safe driving to client's homes as they were not always in the best areas.  

Great pay but do not be tricked by the money. Elevated caseloads and the expectations are high because you were working from home. No boundaries between the work and home. You are using your own workspace, electricity, internet and cellphone. The programming and system were redundant which caused repetition of the same keystrokes or clicks on the computer. I developed epicondylitis in my elbow; I received numerous Cortisone injections for the pain. Management was not understanding; I felt constant pressure to complete tasks and meet deadlines within 30 days. I do not feel valued or respected as an employee. The agency is numbers and accreditation driven. They lack empathy for their employees and the population being served. 

This company has grown by more that 200 % in the past few years.  It used to be a family-centered company where you feel as though the best interests of the co-workers and the clients were the main focus.  Unfortunately that thought has changed over the past three years.  It is now a non-profit that is definitely about the bottom line.  It is a shame, because it really used to be a great place to work.  Now co-workers are taught to shut up and work well outside of business hours just to meet the unrealistic expectations of the higher-ups.  They joke about the lowly worker bees from the penthouse (a term actually used for those on a higher floor from the people doing all the work to keep them there).  Please do yourself a favor and steer clear of TCC!
