Work-life balance
Expectation from management was not conducive with being employed there..
Major issues were present between Corporate's handling of different situations with the managers in the facility..
The current administrators attitude and willingness to lie to your face definitely made me feel as though I didn't want to , come to work there everyday, and subjecting his subordinates to untold amount of stresses was totally absurd..
This Administrator could care less about the personal respect and dignity of other people working for him..i hated his guts at the end and could not wait to leave there.
Everything I just said was true to fact and I have the documentation to back it up..

Pay & benefits
Salaries are low across the board as with any healthcare facility in New York state..
Raises are obtained for only privileged people that have the Administrator's approval..
Case in point A new maintenance manager could bargain for raises for the entire department just in order to win over their loyalty instead of earning it...

Job security and advancement
Once they feel they don't need you anymore they will just terminate you..
Or in my case hire another manager right underneath you and then try to convince you that I needed help, and telling him that I do not have the capacity to do my job anymore which is a bold face lie..

Management
Totally one-sided and underhanded they do things without even telling you or giving you the heads-up that there's an issue and completely behind your back they will replace you

Culture
The lower echelon employees at the Grand are wonderful also known as the grand family..
These are decent hard-working respectful and admirable people..
They would give you the shirt off their back
I loved working with anyone who is below the administrative level including Betty
Can't say enough about these people.
It's unfortunate that the administration and the corporate level staff  don't care for others the same. These people are respectful and honest personnel that work at the Barnwell facility..

Overall
Once you become employed at Barnwell he will meet some of the greatest most caring personnel in the entire capital district..
The grand issues begin with the current Administrator some of the Corporate level staff who are not upfront and honest about what they're doing..
The minute certain Corporate individuals feel as though you've outlived your usefulness you will be replaced as with what happened to me..
Anyone working below the administrative level will meet and be with one of the greatest most caring groups of people in the entire capital district..
The staff below the administrative level truly do care about their residents and other staff that they work with on a daily basis, these are good honest hard-working people...
I can't say enough about them..
They will literally give you the shirt off their back if they can help you in any way possible...
I work there for over 2 years and earned their respect, as I am the same type of good honest hard-working person as they are..
I truly do miss 99% of the people that I used to work with...
As for the other 1%. Well let's just say there's a special place waiting for them..

a typical day at the grand starts with me showing up early and going to get a nos energy drink and relaxing down stars until I can clock in and then dust mop auto scrub the floor then restack the nursing and housekeeping closets then take garbage out and then do a police call ( police call means make Shure  grounds are clean and keeping unwanted people are off the grounds )  after that lunch brake then buffing room changes maybe clean utility rooms and beans and cans  dust mop and I am out the door 


what I have learned what I have learned working here includes how to strip and wax floors and time management and cleaning procedure for medical devices space management 
 

I find the management at the grand to be to big and unnecessarily big to the point that there is one unit manager and one union manager on each of the 3 wings of building as will as a nurse supervisor and head of nursing so when it was housekeeping's job to do room changes some times 2 or 3 at a time on the fly with no heads up at all we would have to go from one wing to another and let them know we hade to move them so they code late the resident's know what was happening because they didn't even know and then wait fore them all to have a meeting on how this that and the 3rd  cancel one or 2 then move the 3rd . but as of my portion as porter it is put under maintenance and housekeeping so I have 2 bosses and I do not like that at all because in the past with one of my old bosses I have found that it can some times come with conflicting orders with both of my bosses telling me they are more important then the other but  again this has been resolved housekeeping (lisa) won but I can see that that same problem is about to start back up 


the workplace culture is not good at all every fraction keeps to them self as in housekeeping activity's nursing rehab maintenance in a very separate but equal kind of a way not much communication going on at all until there is a problem as far as I have seen 


id have to say the hardest part of the job would have to be buffing out the hallways there is only outlets on one side of each hallway and you can only do one half of each hallway at a time  because you cant stop people from going down the hall it often fells like they go down the hall when they know you are buffing it 


id have to say the most enjoyable part of the job would have to be doing police call  jus pick some stuff up some cigarettes off both parking lots and sweep off the 3 emergency exits and I can put my earbuds on whale I do it

The Grand has taken a significant spiral downward over the past 6 months or so. Although the supports and policies at your disposal are wonderful, the over-the-top micromanagement prevents Administrators from effectively running their building. SOOOO many mandatory corporate meetings, both routine and spontaneous. WAY too many Grand-specific tasks that are meant to micromanage and take away from, again, effectively running your building. Because of this, administrative work often needs to be done from home. You will miss out with personal time. It is the most restrictive I have ever felt as an Administrator. The micromanagement is so overbearing, it makes the Administrator wonder why they are even there. The emphasis over the last 6 months has shifted dramatically from patient care to an emphasis on money. Once the money became more important than the patient, I knew it was time to make a change. 
Overall, it's a frustrating combination of not being able to do your job, and not knowing exactly what the purpose of your job is. The CEO has an infuriatingly condescending phrase- "you are the CEO of your building". Absolutely not. No CEO is this restricted. No decisions can be made without getting approval from 15 different people, which can sometimes take weeks and several calls, emails, and follow-ups. Compounding the frustration, you'll hear from those 15 15 times, giving you the same directive youve already heard (kind of like a real life Office Space). If you are an incompetent Administrator who needs their hand to be held like a child, then this is the place for you. For those of us who are competent, I urge you to look elsewhere. All-in-all, a detrimentally rigid, restrictive, and overall toxic approach to skilled nursing care.

This place has no compassion for their workers or their residents. Nurses are only allowed between 5-8 minutes to get someone out of bed, washed, and dressed and down to breakfast everyday. Residents do not get attention they thirst for. And if you try to have some face time with them, you are scorned for wasting time. I loved the residents I took care of and visited in secret everyday. I say that because if they are not on your rotation, it is seen as a waste of your time to visit or talk to them.They have a bogus point based call in system. You are constantly being mandated so you have no time for family, and they don't care. Even if they say you are a great employee, (which never happens), you are treated like trash. If the residents like you, you will be under a microscope because higher up's will wanna get rid of you. There are clicks in the place. Favoritism galore. People in no supervisory roles, who think they are able to tell you what to do. And if you do not comply, they tell their manager friends and then your life is made to be so hard in return. And if you do not get your charting done in time you are reprimanded. The higher up's have no idea of how hard you work because they can never be bothered enough to come see what it is you do. Unless the state is in, then they are everywhere trying to make it seem like they are that way everyday. And that is also the only way staffing is halfway acceptible. Most of the time is it one or two nurses per wing.This is a horrible place, for employees and residents. All that is cared about is money. As soon as a resident passes away they are in a rush to fill the bed without giving the resident's friends or nurses a second thought about their feelings. Run far, and run fast if you are thinking of working for this company.

I still work at The Grand @Guilderland and have no plans of leaving. I’ve been here for 2years. I love working here I work with some loving, caring, and dedicated coworkers. 
 the administrator is amazing he is so down to earth and gives you the feeling of you can talk to him about any issues. When you don’t get the answer you want yet the issue is corrected fairly.
I just want to say where ever you work you will find issues. So I always ask myself what am I doing to correct the issues what part did I play in corrections of the issue, do I want to be a part of the solution or do I want to be a part of the problem? 
The Grand @Guilderland is a big Family! Think about your family members. The strict father the You didn’t clean your room mom the big brother and sister who makes sure you do what your parents said you got your crazy aunts and your Uncle Charlie who fixes everything with a lesson on how not to let it happen again  and yes we have our disobedient children who push and sometimes break the rules you got your family members who complain about everything no matter how hard you try to please them it’s always something wrong. At the end of it all this the our Key goal of the whole family to make sure grandma and grandpa get what they need and are taken care of properly. 
So We Are A Family and We Are Grand. We’re Not PERFECT YET WE CONTINUE TO TRY TO DO BETTER. I LOVE MY GRAND FAMILY in all our rights wrongs and indifference.

This place is a zoo. Full of drama and not a lot of employees come there to actually work and care for the residents. Everybody talks about everybody and there's always some kind of shenanigans taking place. The residents are miserable and it's very sad to see how some of them are ignored because people don't wanna get off their butts and do anything. They are very understaffed and most of the time there is one aide responsible for 15-20 people and the night nurses are responsible for 40 people. Most of the nurses are very rude and when issues arise they are just looked over and most times not even delt with. The ceilings are falling in and the a.c. is never working properly. I dont see how some of these people can even sleep at night knowing they didn't do their job. It's a wonder the state hasn't went in there and shut this place down. I wouldn't send my worst enemy there. The administration is oblivious to what happens there because people are not opening up their mouths to say anything because they are afraid of rebutles and repercussions. It's very sad. Also the pay sucks and they offer a free lunch but it's never something you would enjoy eating. This place is a joke.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The people were nice, informative and could not do enough for you. I was very busy here as well,short staffing makes you a person that picks up,feeding people, assisting with care of the med nurses,treatments as well as my own responsibility as a RN Nurse Manager

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The  Covid - 19 was at a prime always having to send residents out for acute care and changing beds non stop when they tested positvie for Covid- 19 alot of Computer work as well as hands on direct care

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
busy, alot of daily changes, short term rehab residents coming in and alot going home change over was endless

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
morning report with staff on my unit, I dealt with staffing issues, resident issues before attending administrative meetings, resident care meetings with family members. sending residents out for acute care, dealing with Providers in response to resident care directly.

At my specific Grand facility, my immediate supervisors were very caring and supportive of the rehab team. They try their best to make adjustments to schedules and caseloads as necessary if any one needed unexpected time off or were just overwhelmed by productivity requirements (which were mostly pushed by corporate - as is typical for all nursing homes).

The SLP role is straightforward - evaluate all new admissions and referrals from nursing staff. Treat the patients you’ve added to your caseload. As the lone SLP you get a lot of autonomy regarding who you pick up, frequency of treatment, and how long. I never saw any trach/vent patients admitted to my facility during my employment period. 

Considering location of the facility, scarcity of SLPs in the area, and responsibilities of being the single SLP in the facility - with unreliable per diem SLPs to come assist when the caseload was heavy, I do think pay could have been just slightly better, but it was acceptable.

Corporate only cares about the money, they don't listen to staff's concerns, pay is shamefully low compared to other nursing facilities, and house staff is constantly mandated, yet management NEVER stays to help. Go in as agency to avoid mandation and receive better pay and you're treated like trash and have your hours cancelled last minute, but then they harass you about picking up hours when they lose people. People get away with everything and anything here. They allow nurses to come back to work when in all reality, they should be reported to state and have their license taken from them. There a good amount of people that are wonderful to work with, but the nonsense you constantly have to deal with between management and corporate is not worth it.

Working at The Grand was unfortunately a very stressful experience for me. While some coworkers were kind and supportive, the overall management environment made it difficult to feel respected or valued. I experienced repeated unprofessional behavior from leadership, including public humiliation, poor communication, and being blamed for tasks that were not part of my assignment. When I tried to address these issues through proper channels, I felt that my concerns were not taken seriously or fairly investigated.

A workplace should feel safe, supportive, and respectful, especially in healthcare where teamwork is critical. Sadly, that was not my experience here. The constant stress and hostile environment affected my mental well-being and made it impossible for me to continue.
