The Grand Theatre

A typical day at The Grand includes stress about what time you will receive your money because of management having to perform 3 different jobs, in turn, forcing employees to do the same. This is due to corporate failing to give the proper staff and hours necessary to run a theater. I learned not to stress as much as I was at first because most of the problems were out of my hands. A lot of the policies are backwards, meaning one manager tells you to do one thing that the other managers have told you not to do. This is very common, and takes some getting used to. If you remain positive in your demeanor, work was usually fun aside from the stress. The hardest part of the job was making everyone (coworkers and management) happy and still keeping composure. The most enjoyable part was making customers happy, because that was the only reward that stood out. Efforts made only reflected on customers attitudes and experiences, because management turned a blind eye. Competitions were unfair and set in stone. Some of the employees were treated better than others because of their relationships inside and outside the company. It was a battle between right and wrong in my personal opinion, but I learned many lessons professionally and in general life at this job. I believe if the staff was enhanced, the overall experience would have vastly improved.

I enjoyed my time working at The Grand. It was my first job so I didn't have any issues with the pay and I was looking to get some experience along the way. My main position was at concession and it can get very busy when big movies drop and while most of the customers are friendly, there's always a few bad apples who give you a hard time for basically no reason. These customers are the impatient type who order a whole load of food and complain that it's taking time to get everything out for them. Customers aside, the managers are all very friendly and the team leads are as well and they get it. My coworkers there were all around my age (late teens to early 20s) and it made it very enjoyable to go to work with your peers. If you're going to be closing, plan to leave around after 11:30pm because closing can be easy some days but other days it takes forever. Honestly if I could've applied for another position there I would've applied as an Usher because I am not really a good people person.

The flexibility is very nice as well as the other employers and management. Healthy atmosphere as well when coming in to work on a day to day basis.

● Pay & benefits
Although the pay is alright, the annual raise is sadly just $0.05 - $0.25 cents varying on your annual work performance.

● Job security and advancement
There is room for growth at this company but sadly not enough growth that’s necessary to help sustain a bi-weekly paycheck to help cover monthly bill cost.

● Management
Management is very understanding as well as flexible with there employers. Schedule line-ups are mostly to everyones liking when it comes to when they can and cannot work.

● Culture
Overall healthy environment towards the workers. Positive characteristics in the staff with little to no difficulties.

● Overall
I find this job to overall be a great base job to develop social skills and enforce positive work behavior. Although more work growth is encouraged, sadly it can only compensate for so much.

A typical day at the Grand is relaxed on week days. I find it most efficient to keep things clean and to collect stock on week days opposed to weekends. 
On weekends, there will be a few to nonstop rushes. 

Management is terrible. There is no communication, favorites are picked, and employees are treated very unfair. Rules are often “changed” (depending on who the manager is that day)

The hardest part of working at The Grand is dealing with the ups and downs of management. 
Employees do not get holiday pay, yet we are expected to work every holiday (unless you are a favorite). Employees do not get overtime, either. 

The most enjoyable part of working at The Grand is that my coworkers are kind to each other and treat each other like family. Despite the lack of work ethic in most employees, team work goes a long way when we push each other. Management doesn’t pay attention to anything except for the bad, so if one person messes up, we all do.

I love wokring here and the opportunities to advance are super available if you work hard. You get to watch free movies, get free drinks, and the employees are fun to work with. However, many times when management has an issue with something, they do not directly tell the employee, and when business is slow hours get slim as management is the top priority. You can tell that you are cared about personally, but not so much professionally though. The pay is not terrible but it's not very much and there is a strict uniform, which includes no unnatural hair colors, "excessive" makeup, or long/painted nails, and only one small earring allowed per ear.  Also, they do not let anyone be a full-time employee so they can avoid giving anybody benefits.

My favorite job ever, it’s easy, fast yet slow at the same time. Just be prepared for rushes. Besides that you have time to just chill and have some fun with your coworkers. I loved working in the box office, because I was isolated to myself in a box where I could read or do homework if they didn’t catch me. I also enjoyed working usher, because I was able to just stand around rip tickets, clean bathrooms, clean theaters and sweep the front and hallways. Concessions was the worst for me tbh, but I still enjoyed it. You pretty much worked with the food and you would have lines after lines bombarding you which was difficult to learn at first especially walking across the line to get the foods or go to the back of the house to get more hotdogs. It was also the only position that stayed at least an hour after the last movie was shown, but hey more hours!

This job is a good place for high school/college but you can only work your way up if you are over 18 and the managers like you. I had a friend that the managers hated for no reason so they never promoted her to box office or usher like everyone else. As long as you do your job well then you should become a red shirt within a year or so (which pays a dollar more roughly) then you can also get promoted to countroom which will also raise your salary a little. If you're a blue shirt (start position) you will not have any hours but if you become a red shirt they usually work you 4-6 times a week. They have some parties and giveaways time to time, and every month they get a birthday cake the employees can eat. The break is 30 minutes and I never had an issue with other employees or customers too bad. Overall, it's a good first job

The Grand Theater is a great place to start working. You go in and get ready for the hoard of customers, or a load of cleaning. During slow periods you are incharge of cleaning your workstation, stocking your candy, making more popcorn, and restocking your ice for the next rush. During closing hours you are responsible for tearing down your soda fountain, cleaning your popcorn machine. You must take out the trash, change out soda boxes and icee boxes if running low, you will make trays of nachos with cups of Jalapenos. You work in two stations, the concession stand and the cafe. You will work alone or along other members.

On a typical day at work I would take and ring up people's orders. This was my first job, so this was when I learned to open up and not be shy.In the beginning I was scared of my manager nut later on we became friendly and made jokes. My co-workers were what made working there so fun. We would cut up and have a good time if it weren't busy and they were very dependable and helpful. The hardest part was cooking some of the things, not because it was hard but because I am short and they were difficult to reach. Everything there was enjoyable, I always had a good time at work.

Overall, The Grand Theatre isn't a horrible place to work, but it's not a place that I can make a career at.  It's a wonderful place to work for those who need to gain experience in the working world, or for those who wish to seek higher education and still maintain a part-time job.
