Pros
80% of my coworkers were the best people I ever met. Most of them were very dedicated to the field and had my back in many challenging situations.
I found the job to be extremely rewarding on a personal level. I felt enlightened by the many unique situations I was put while working with the patients, even the extremely difficult ones.
It offered me an opportunity to work with a diverse population of psychiatric patients, ranging greatly in age and severity of illnesses. 
While working as an EMT I visited all of the major psych hospitals in the south east PA area, this one has by far the best staff and seems the least detrimental to the patients well being (not to imply Horsham is a godsend...).
Horsham is by no means a complete disaster, I witnessed many positive interactions between patients and staff and I am happy I spent almost a year working there. In the end I left because I was sick of seeing patients suffer from this under-funded and under-staffed struggling hospital.

Cons
Everything comes down to lack of funding. I would say 70% of all the shifts I worked were understaffed. This can cause serious threats to ones safety if you are working on units with aggressive patients. Lack of staffing leads to many patients needs being unmet, and their mental health either staying static or further worsening. The only patients who have a chance of seeing improvement are the ones who are already relatively under control mentally or have means of stability in their personal lives; those who are low functioning seem to be stuck in a cycle of going back and forth from the hospital and their broken lives, from my perspective. This is not to say the cycle is completely Horshams fault, however the therapeutic treatment they provide often seems so limited that some patients seem bound to return or have trouble reaching a point they seem fit to leave. 
There is barely anything for the patients to do on the units. It was heartbreaking to watch patients deteriorate after sometimes months of under-stimulation. There is little to no scheduled activity besides "groups" which are run by the social workers. These groups function like community meetings for the patients, which are valuable but only last for about an hour. Its up to the nurses and techs to entertain the patients for the remainder of the day, which is difficult considering all the shifts are already understaffed! 
Medication is the substitute for real therapeutic counseling, working as a tech or nurse means you will have to reinforce this pharmaceutical philosophy using force. What many of the patients need is extensive and focused therapy with a counselor, but instead get TV, bored games, and walls to stare at while doped up on 10mg of Ativan. 
The pay is also very low for techs considering how dangerous the job can be at times.
They constantly barrage you on your time off with calls and text messages about picking up extra shifts. While they do offer generous compensation for these bonus hours, the amount texts they send is absurd and shows how desperate they are to keep their hospital afloat.

I am a RN and worked for 3 months on the Children's Unit. I was punched and bit by 2 patients on the same day and left soon after. I stupidly went back years later and was the Charge RN on the Acute Adult Psych Unit.  They would accept any patients (they’re not the only hospital that does) to the unit, people who had violent pasts and in some cases has just been released from prison. Some arrived in their prison jumpsuits. In retrospect they were often the least problematic patients. When I was the Charge Nurse the other nurses I worked with who had been there for awhile would dump everything on me. I had a female patient who would threaten us she would destroy the unit if she didn’t have more smoke breaks than the other patients got. She was a very big girl and I personally took her out for additional smoke breaks for the safety of the staff and other patients. The other nurses would criticize me but didn’t have a solution. Luckily she wasn’t there long and the smoke breaks were effective in keeping her from destroying the unit. If you got hurt on the job, which was common especially on the adolescent unit, management blamed you for being injured, i.e., not using the correct interventions. I just counted and they have 20 nursing jobs posted on Indeed along with as many Mental Health Technician positions posted. 
The second time I worked there was because there was a RN called out and they did not get a replacement, wonder why?, so I was the only nurse on the unit with 15 patients. Doesn’t sound like a lot; however, but the acuity as high as it always was. I called the Nursing Supervisor who is probably still there and told her I did not feel comfortable with being the only nurse on the unit if anything was to happen. The next day when I came in my manager asked me to meet with him and she was there. She told him I yelled at her which was totally untrue. I have never done this before but handed him my keys and quit on the spot. They had another nurse on the shift so I didn’t abandon my shift. Please take caution if you think about working at Horsham. There are at least twice as many nursing jobs available than when I worked there so it is, if possible, even worse than when I worked there.

It has been several years since I worked for The Horsham Clinic, so I can't speak for how it is today, but when I was there the pay was terribly low for the intensity of the work and risk to self. With a hands on, physical restraint program, you do get hurt, you do get cussed out, spit on, your clothes torn, etc. Management did nothing to make sure staff were ok after a situation. The techs up at the main campus were pitifully underpaid for a Bachelor's required position and most of them were exhausted from working multiple jobs. This of course leads to more emotional employees. More emotional employees lead to higher risk situations when dealing with high intensity clients. The emotional and physical toll of the job was unreal. 

The joy of working with clients who are coming to you at their worst and getting to be a part of the process of helping them to regain their dignity and sense of self-worth was a true privilege. The hospital would have a much better outcome with clients on a whole if the staff were treated as if their health, worth and mental well being mattered as well. Retention is an ongoing issue, and that is, as always, a management issue. It doesn't require much to show genuine appreciation and concern for your workers. Employees who feel valued stay. 

The pay scale needs to be adjusted to that of any heavy labor, hazardous and technical skill job. Female dominated fields are horribly undervalued for the work that is done and the required training. The Horsham Clinic takes advantage of that as well. It really is a shame, because the work done is truly important and life saving. 

I enjoy working at this facility.
 The managers are fair  and eager to listen to staff suggestions for improvement -the environment is patient centered  and very focused on patient and employee safety.
The arena of mental illness can be a challenge as it is unpredictable BUT- Horsham Clinic prides itself on meeting and exceeding the expectation of service excellence. Every patient concern is addressed by Senior management .
The benefits are very generous several health care-dental and vision choices are offered and they give competitive yearly salary increases . There are paid holidays and you can accrue time off quickly. They offer generous bonuses -for weekends and holiday shifts for staff that want to pick up extra time and they allow overtime pay .
As an employee- I feel my co-workers and managers are receptive and supportive. They are always looking to improve and encourage ALL levels of staff to be involved and on safety and improvement committiees 
 There is an environment of learning - with multiple opportunities to improve your knowledge base - by attendance at conferences / in-services  and tuition reimbursement. There is also a nurse residency program here that assists new nurses to acclimate to the clinical environment 
 Several employees that started at entry level have advanced to manager/corporate positions - so there is opportunity to advance.
Horsham Clinic is located on a beautiful estate - it's nice to walk the grounds when your on break  there is plenty of parking and meals for employees are well priced. Senior management  recognize employees from all departments that go above and beyond- with Service Excellence Awards .

Chronically understaffed and unsafe for nurses, techs, and patients because of it.  Only the emergent patients are able to get any attention, the rest must be ignored. Turnover is brutal--competent staff no sooner adapt to the culture and workload then they find employment elsewhere.   Paid time off is industry average, however understaffing means that vacation time is difficult to get approved. Management is strictly autocratic, with little or no attention paid to the suggestions, input, or safety concerns of any staff.  There are a dedicated few, however the culture is largely negative.  On the upside, they do strive to serve uninsured patients, will take almost anyone, and it is not unusual to meet homeless patients coming in literally right off the street.  The social workers are excellent and strive to find placement and services for each, once they are physically and mentally stabilized for discharge.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Nice campus, great nurses, poor management. Working at this facility was a great learning experience. Meanwhile, my experience was leadership was one of a racially biased undertone.  

Staff /patient ratio were unsafe and the culture pointed to poor leadership and an obvious gap between leadership and nurses on the floor.

There was an obvious leadership gap between management and nurses on the floor. The grapevine was more effective then professional communication channels.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
24 patients, one MHT with anything between 3-5 admissions overnight. This meant I had to do do at least two hours of rounds in addition to my nursing duties.

MD may be Unavailable after certain hours overnight.

A typical day at work is it is a very busy place as I review patients charts on a daily basis in the morning and afternoon.  I also, visit with the patients as I am responsible for financial counceling with the patients to insure that we are able to help them financially when they are admitted.  Management takes the initiative to listen and help employees to reach their goals.  I enjoy working with my peers and co-workers as we all work together and have a common goal and that is to help our patients.  The hardest part of my job is when I have to speak with a patient that I know is not able to financially meet their needs.  I enjoy dealing with people as I am a people person and what better way to help those in need, then working at a place where they care for others.

The job is easy and the nursing staff is great. Other than that this place is horrible, we are not supported, the staff to patient ratio puts the hospital in an unsafe situation daily, management is petty and unprofessional, no union so they treat their staff any kind of way...... poor management, unsafe health environment for individuals with pre-existing medical conditions, patients are not required to wear masks or get tested for COVID before being admitted into the hospital. The CEO and the CNO only care about money, no incentives are offered to staff during a pandemic and staff are burnt out DAILY! The pay does not match up to the job function and the headache the staff deals with on a regular. Management harasses staff and does not appreciate hard working individuals. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO WORK AT THIS FACILITY.

Coworkers, as far as techs and nurses, are supportive and helpful, always willing to assist in any situation

Admin is only concerned about numbers and profits, as is the common issue with all facilities these days, so staff safety and morale are low on the priority list 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It really depends on what unit you’re assigned to, every unit is run according to it’s supervisor’s specifications 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Busy, but very manageable. It can be a stressful environment considering the population.

As much as I like this facility because of the simplicity of commute to and from, there are many things that still gives me headache. Horsham is always short staff and the staffs are constantly leaving. Yes, the management don't care to know why or make amendments. Secondly, night shift is the worse ever I have seen in this profession. Most of the units have one tech with one nurse  overnight, with more than 20 patients on some units. Nurses share rounds equally with the techs. 4 hours each. Nurses are constantly burnt out on night shift especially when you have admissions to deal with plus whatever is going on in the unit. I haven't seen such elsewhere. As a night nurse be ready to work as a tech and also as a nurse. Morning is better because you have many people around to help including management.
