I enjoyed working with my colleagues. For the most part they were respectful and I had fun and made friends. Unfortunately, most of the psychiatrists were patronizing and the worst people to deal with. They showed no respect towards mental health clinicians, including LCSW's who had more than 15 years of experience. Most of my patients complained about the lack of collaboration when dealing with psychiatrists, and those psychiatrists that remain have bad reviews on various medical sites. 
I often found that medications psychiatrists prescribed often had severe side effects even when there were other medications on the market with fewer side effects.
Management dealt with staff and patients punitively. For example, when patients were not able to make an appointment, patients were often berated and psychiatrists would hold back medications allowing patients to suffer until the next appointment. 
The hidden agenda of the mental counseling department was (is) to increase the amount of cases no matter what treatment is dealt, even if it meant adding more stress to the clinicians to the point of burn out. The hidden agenda was always camouflaged by management's misguided phrase “evidenced based treatment". However, the workload on professionals increased constantly and patient engagement suffered. Good clinicians and psychiatrists alike don't remain at IFH long, unless they fit into the authoritarian culture and do as they’re told. 
The staff turn over was (is) constant, and at-risk patients who could not advocate for them selves, due to lack of financial resources and poor education suffered. They constantly complained and felt abandoned after forming trusting relationships with their clinicians and then had to transfer to another clinician due to high staff turnover. 
IFH runs their mental health-counseling department like a conveyer belt, churning out cases and hiding behind "assessments and data” to show due diligence at the expense of good and humane treatment to staff and patients.

A typical day is full of pleasant hellos from opening the doors to patients to closing. I've learned to remain calm on difficult situations when a patient is under a lot of stress and/or angry as well working differently with each doctor. I've also learn how to register and update patient information and verify status of insurance. Working here been a great experience learning about diabetes and working closer with patients, doctors, nutritionist, social workers. The co workers and managers were very helpful and was a lot like team work all around. The hardest part of the job I would say is leaving the end of the day time flys when your in a welcoming family. the most enjoyable part when their were special activities when we had to come together closer and do a health fair or a diabetes day each small part work closer together from set up and coming up with ideas together to the actual end when its over cleaning up and seeing our turn out.

I have worked here a total of 2 years (with a large gap in between but still). Both times, there has been a combination of little direct supervision which hurt when you needed to ask a question or get help, but when it came to supervision meetings, they jump down your throat because you didn't do things the exact way they wanted. 

You have to be able to learn quickly here, because when you start, they barely teach you anything. It took me 3 months to really know how to do my job and that was with multiple mandatory training, and shadowing other people. Lets get real though, even the people training you were clueless, but its not their fault because communication is horrible here.

Its a lot of work for little pay here, and little thanks. Even when they add more duties on to your daily work, they don't care to give you even a small raise. Yes, thats right, after 2 years, not even a penny of a raise.

 My co-workers were the only good thing here. They were all excellent problem solvers and really kind people. They were all amazing and smart, and if it wasn't for them, I would have left much faster.

The only benefit I received from my experience at this company is the experience of working in a high volume, fast paced health care facility. I enjoyed being of assistance to the patients, however management in a departments was absolutely atrocious. It was extremely difficult to work in customer service environment when so many employees were disgruntled because managers were disrespectful and held meetings to talk about all the things that we were doing wrong, rather than coming up with ways to fix issues and provide better service. Instead of training people properly, they constantly fired employees for not being able to perform. Although they provided tution reimbursement, they made it difficult to schedule classes with the constantly rotating work schedule. Management operated based off their personal attitudes toward the employees and gossip. It was a very depressing environment.

A great place for those new to behavioral health space to learn from seasoned clinicians.

 The group meetings are interesting and thought provoking. Clinical staff care deeply about providing superb treatment to patients.

 Upper management was not as supportive of my request to work a hybrid schedule or not work in person. This was very disappointing as staff navigated through a dangerous medical community crisis.

Supervision was the best part of this job. I enjoyed gaining more clinical skills. There is no cap on your case load. I had a 100+. I left due to feeling overwhelmed and micromanaged. It feels like you are under a microscope, at least in the NYS division not sure how the city functions. Sessions are about 30 mins, though 45 mins is looked down on. Very hard to see clients weekly due to high case load. I may have been able to see most every 2 to 3 weeks. Focus is on billing and how many clients you can see in a day vs providing quality service.

The benefits like 1199 is great. The pay is OK for something new but not a career , but they micromanage no communication with their employees employees start and they basically train on their own learning by the day management & HR. They are not here for the staff they are here for themselves . Let’s start with the backstabbing Gossip favoritism, they take hours or a day to respond to their employees. Let’s not forget the pay they basically get a raise when they’re living adjustment to go up. This place is like high school. If you want to go to high school again, you should apply here the managers HR they’re never reachable always on vacation and always out for whatever reason while us the staff we have to deal with all the drama from patients rescheduling, the doctors not being in like it’s just a lot and it’s overwhelming when you first got here..

Strong blame culture. High turnover. Providers overworked and therefore coddled to offset frustration, which is too often directed at frontline staff and middle management. Funds chased with excessive implementationg of initiatives with little to no support from leadership and not used for their dedicated purposes, thereby exploiting the sickness of marginalized people for funds (LGBTQ, disabled, poor, people of color, etc.). No training for cultural competency despite work being centered on eliminating health disparities. Favoritism and racism high. Lack of standardization/organization.

The hours at IFH were great for patients but as for the staff they were not really taken into consideration as it is required to work full days on holidays. When bringing up a problem to management it was not typically handled. A lot of staff members were not very good about confidentiality and very negative towards other co workers. The social workers were really good to their patients but the timing for sessions were always behind leaving receptionist to deal with unhappy patients whom were waiting in the waiting for extended periods of time. I enjoyed working directly with patients and learning the soft ware but was not thrilled about how unorganized some things were. The hours of operation made it very difficult for daily activities such as just dinner and most of the staff were not good about being team players and covering a shift if needed.

My career with the Institute began in 1992 and over the years I wore many hats. I became very concerned that there was no training and development processes for staff and was given permission to begin a training department. When the director of Human Resources left I was asked to lead that department (in 2004). While there the company revamped their benefits program and I became the administrator. In addition to the training and benefit administration I also counseled managers on disciplinary issues; recruited for various openings within the company; managed the Human Resources staff of six; onboarded new hires; etc.
The hardest part of the job was when someone had to be terminated and the training sessions I led were the most enjoyable.
