I worked in the I.T. department at KPC Healthcare for about two years. The technology department there is laughable. Don't expect any mentoring, or leadership. It's a competitive, rather than cooperative environment. The systems there are unorganized, and confusing. No thought has been put into any important workflows, or processes. Management literally yells at employees who are lower in position to themselves (didn't really happen to me, but was witnessed). Management has the I.T. department employees also working as the phone operators (answering calls for hospital emergencies!?). You will be handling Code Blues (yeah I know, it makes no sense). They had us learn, and handle this second job, while not giving anyone a raise for the new workload. Be prepared to work nights, weekends, and holidays (hospitals are open 27-7). Also, yearly raises are skipped, or minimal. There is no team atmosphere there, and no communication from one part of the I.T. department to another. The network and software infrastructure is constantly crashing, and management can't seem to handle any of it. They don't seem to care, or aren't bright enough to get any of it fixed. It's just a mess. The portable computers constantly loose wifi (for the entire two years I was there)! You will run in circles fixing the same problems over and over at this place. Also, the carpet and furniture there is about 40 years old, and looks it. Find yourself a company that is well organized, and has leaders that lead. There aren't many professionals at this place. I met some good guys, but there are also very low class people working there too. Very much a bottom-of-the-barrel situation.

I'm comfortable working here and know most of the doctors and receive their respect, which I like.  I'm worried because this hospital has never been stable. Since I've worked here, there have been too many CEOs to count!. I have had many directors which I have always got along with. There is also a union at this hospital which I do not like or agree with.
     My typical day is to start with in patients, My outpatients start at 8 am. I can easily scan outpatients every half hour. In between the outpatients, I scan er, ob, ip, or jail patients. I always accept any add-ons; I turn no one away. I usually work 8 hours a day, but lately it has been slow and I work only 6 hours a day to try to keep up our productivity level. I get along with my co-workers and sometimes help out in x-ray when needed. I still have my x-ray license. The hardest part of my job, is not being able to get my supplies that I ordered and not being able to maintain my machines when needed. I have personally bought supplies and worked on my own machines! My favorite part is making a difference in patient's lives,ie, finding abnormalities, showing beautiful pictures of their fetus', helping the ER physicians find a diagnosis.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Friendly physicians and staff. Small scale facility which made it easy to become familiar with all departments. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The administration was out of touch with reality. Basic guidelines for health and safety were neglected and not implemented correctly.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Money driven, corners cut, lack of concern for fundamental problems that were blatantly ignored and pushed aside. There is definitely a sense of higher archery that sets the tone and leaves the underlying feeling of being insignificant and replaceable regardless of being dutiful and hard working. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hit the ground running, shift handed off with more than fair share to handle let alone the total of existing responsibilities. Unreasonable amount of workload demanding every ounce of energy with no relief in sight as it was routinely expected to not be allowed to have breaks since often short staffed.

For my Volunteer job, I would sit at the information desk right in front of the main door. My job was to give families a pass to go see patients in the hospital rooms (visitation duty). I was to direct them to the correct area, and make sure their patient was on the list of patients given to me by my manager. I was to check patients out once they were escorted by the nurse, and update the patient chart to confirm their location within the hospital. I would often answer queries on the different locations of the hospital, translate for spanish speakers and would use the phone to call any department if I needed answers. The hospital employees were always busy, the security was roaming constantly. Hardest part was when no one came in for visitation. The most enjoyable part of this job was being in a hospital environment, seeing the way nurses, doctors, and other hospital employees worked in the hospital setting.

I was hired to work part time in January of 2018 as a House Supervisor. I had worked at this facility for 27 years prior to being rehired. The facility changed ownership in 2014 and my position was eliminated. 
After working at Orange County Global Medical Center for 2 months in the part time position, the CNO eliminated the part time position to save money on paying benefits. I have stayed on as per diem until I can find a benefited position with another company.
The management team at this company is constantly turning over and changing. There are reductions in forces frequently throughout the year. There is a large turn over in the nursing staff as well as the administrative staff. They have Directors and Managers covering multiple departments at more than one facility.
The most enjoyable part of my job is working with the staff and physicians that I had worked with for many years. I enjoyed the fast space high acuity Level II trauma center. It has provided many learning experiences and interesting cases over the years.
The hardest part of the job is the lack of stability within the organization.

This is the worst place I've ever worked in my career.  The employees are wonderful people, but the upper management team is trash and inexperienced for their positions.  If you don't have an MBA in sucking up or if you're not of Indian culture- forget working here.  They pay their employees nearly nothing, no room for advancement, and the work environment is stressful.  Upper management treats the physicians like they are disposable.  Everyone in upper management is somehow related to one another, long-time friends, or even a neighbor.  Get everything in writing because their words have no value and will deny ever saying it.

Again, the people in HR department and employees within the different divisions of the organization are wonderful- but the inside politics, inexperienced upper management people, and favoritism outweigh the positives aspects.

If you appreciate your sanity and happiness, do not work here.  RUN AWAY!

What is the best part of working at the company?
The owner and upper management does not care about its employees or patients. It is always finding ways to do the minimal amount for it's clients and does not bother to invest in it's facilities, employees, or patients. The facilities work with the bare minimum equipment (and even that barely works), skeleton staffing and no incentives to stay with the company. They are one of the worst companies (owner - Chaudhuri) to work for.


What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Never enough resources ( equipment, staffing, etc.) The owner is cheap and does not invest in his hospitals.


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very good. The major reason each employee has stayed on is because of the comradory we have with each other and we function well as a team.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Good. Because of the closeness with my coworkers it makes for a positive working environment aside from the negatives that we face daily.

The organization as a whole is set up to be most favorable to physicians so the culture in general is that physicians matter MOST. There is not a good sense of teamwork here, and because of that not only does patient satisfaction suffer but so do patient outcomes. It is difficult to do well here or be seen as successful or even anyone that is competent if you are not a physician. Nurse Practitioners and Physicians Assistants are not respected here are members of the team at all. The organization has many regulations in place to narrow the scope of both roles, and very much uses the role as providers to do work physicians do not want to do instead of using them to help improve access to care and as more useful team members. This in turn also creates a culture where nursing staff also does not respect NP/PA staff. The environment that has been created here is aggressive, and hostile. If you are an RN or LVN, you can be part of the union. Otherwise if you are an NP or PA you have no protections there. 

I loved my job at HVMC. I learned so much in the 9 years I worked there. When I was hired on as the Unit Secretary I reorganized the documents on the floor that had been there in the 70's on. I loved the nurses i worked with and created a family bond with them. I worked the hardest/busiest floor at HVMC and most new secretary staff didnt stay on long after working our floor. We mostly recieved geriatric patients on our floor. I miss talking to the patient's and learning thier stories or taking care of them when they transition to a better place. I went out of my scope of practice to help the patient's and nurses. Sometimes i would sit with the patient if they had no family so they werent so lonely. I miss my job and now I am trying to start a new career but within the medical field. Thank You.

I worked in a high level, fast pace med/surg unit.  The coworkers strive to maintain high level of care and management has been working towards renewing better ways to advance their current status to modern technology, as well as, finding more efficient methods to comply with today's changes.

The hardest part of the job is managing time and charting.  Fortunately, the hospital will be implementing a computerized charting system. The challenges of acquiring test results is evident. 

The population has a multitude of cultural diversity.  The skills are regularly assessed and education is available.  I learned many aspects in nursing care.  All of the experience I received while I worked there, enhanced my education in the field of nursing.
