The Legacy Senior Communities

A typical day involves onboarding new hires & handling whatever comes my way with an open door, whether it's answering employee questions, addressing concerns, resolving problems, or simply connecting with team members. Along with my HRBP responsibilities, I stay engaged with the day-to-day needs of the team and the community.

What I Believe I Learned:
I’ve learned so much working here at The Legacy, and I will be forever grateful for starting my HR career here. I've gained hands-on experience with HR processes, developed my communication skills, and built confidence in handling a wide range of employee-related matters. I’ve also learned the importance of being adaptable and resourceful in a busy work environment.

Management:
Management has been as supportive as possible, considering their own responsibilities. I can speak for the management teams here at LWB and LAH—I've seen how they interact with their team members and can tell they genuinely care for both new hires and long-tenured employees. Their leadership style has been a great influence on me, and I’ve learned a lot about creating a supportive environment.

Workplace Culture:
The workplace culture within the HR team is great. I know I can always ask a question, and the team is there to help, especially in these last few months. At LWB, the culture is supportive, with everyone being kind and helpful to each other—there's no drama. Similarly, at LAH, the team is a tight-knit group of leaders who function well together and get things done efficiently. The overall culture at both locations is collaborative and positive.

The Hardest Part of the Job:  
The hardest part of the job, particularly since December, has been keeping up with all of my tasks. It can be difficult to get help with some of these things since they are more specific to LWB and LAH, and the HR team might not always be able to assist. Despite that, I stay focused on managing everything as best I can.

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job:
The most enjoyable part of the job, which I’ve shared with everyone new—whether HRBP candidates or new hires—is the people. Here in Plano, at both LWB and LAH, the people are truly great with big hearts. I drive a long distance every day just to be here, and the kindness from everyone has made a lasting impact on me. People regularly check in with me about my day, and I feel welcomed and cared for. It’s a wonderful environment, and it means a lot to me.

A typical day is arriving at work obtaining your assignment from the Charge Nurse and going room to room assisting residents with their ADLs. You assist in cleaning and dressing residents for meals, and prepare them for their therapy sessions. You will also bath and shower residents every other day too. Some of the residents are extremely dependent and do not like to move. Hoyer lift equipment is available as well as other lift equipment, but it was not always working. 

When staffing is short, you will also pass meal trays and you may even have to work at passing meals in the dinning hall. There were instances where I even would have to go back into the kitchen and help prepare food. The kitchen staff always seemed to be short handed. 

There is a lot of work to be done regardless of which shift you choose to work. Team work? It depends on who is working and if they like one another. Some of the RNs are really good and some just pass meds. 

The facility is clean and nice; it does not have a long-term care feel. Some of the patients visit the facility on an outpatient basis for rehab with: physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. 

 Supposedly this is a Jewish sponsored organization.This facility does not accept medicare, so most of the residents come from a rather affluent background. The interesting thing about this, is that the facility acts as though it cannot provide its staff with better pay or benefits. As a CNA you will make below $10 an hour and you do 99.9% back breaking work. The 1 or 2 RNs on duty will be passing meds and conducting assessments to more than 50 residents, so they are tied up doing that. The facility also does not provide you with vaccinations.

HR is ridiculous at this place. I found myself checkless on several different occasions. The HR rep tried to get smart with me once and I went off on him and stated that I bet he received his paycheck for the pay period. He was annoyed that I kept calling and stated that he was working on cutting me a check.

Management also has issues, which can be said for most rehab, long-term care, specialty care facilities, and inpatient hospitals. Management changes hands like you will change diapers. There is almost no point of listing this place on your Resume when trying to find a new job because your manager will probably not be there to give you a reference. 

I would not recommend working here. This is a place you work when you are desperate for a job and do not want to work in fast food.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It's a clean facility the residents are nice and so are the people I work with the rate of pay is fair and it's close to home so gas is not a problem my overall experience has been pleasant

I have not had any stress associated with working at this job

It's friendly environment and comfortable place

Lots of greetings and smiles quick clock in and off to work I go

What is the best part of working at the company?
The employees are friendly and helpful.  It's nice to chat and visit with residents.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
My job was not that stressful. Some of the residents family members can be demanding and rude.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It's great, most people are helpful.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Scheduling visits for family and residents. Checking in and out family members.  Cleaning the visitation room.

They have a good pay scale and lovely campus. If you are not Jewish you better watch what you say and do. Necklaces with crosses are seen as inappropriate. Residents who use a walker or wheelchair are not welcome in the main dining room. Residents from the rehab building are not allowed to come over to the independent side for a visit. They think it looks bad. The owner acts like a mob boss with everyone scrambling around to please him.

When abuse is reported nothing is done. They keep staff working even if they abused a resident or if they did something illegal. There are some great employees there but they need to stand up for what's right! They will promise you gold and only give you dirt!!! Terrible, unsafe, illegal practices. Stay away Stay Away

I don't have one bad thing to say about The Legacy at Willow Bend. This job has great pay compared to other healthcare facilities. They have amazing staff that truly work together and treat each other like family. I work on one of the Rehab units and absolutely love it. The nurses are caring, compassionate, and understanding. The therapy team is amazing! I love working here. 

As Sales specialist, my job was to increase sales and occupancy which I did very successfully.

The hardest part of the job was when a resident passed away that you had sold an apartment or villa to.

The most enjoyable part of the job was working with seniors and their adult children. Helping find a long or short term solution for the aging parent.

I always wanted a job where the best people can work together and you don’t have that lazy worker who pulls the team down, well that type of job exists.  The team is positive and upbeat, they pull together when it counts.  The worst day is good because your coworkers are so great.

Amen i Absolutely love it at the Legacy. Customer Service  is so amazing towards all. The management team is just that and makes us Caregivers feel the warm love as well.  I  encourage people to work with The Legacy.  What an awesome Family community to be blessed to work with.
