The hospitals are understaffed, very fast paced and heavy. The RN/patient ratios are not safe most days (1:5-6), especially when a patient needs blood or other timely procedures, or there's an emergency. The RNs are always busy with admits & discharges, they cannot always keep up with other patients cares and meds. Support staff are always overworked with 10-18 patients, and do most of the bedside cares including most if not all baths, repo's, total feeds, meds, I&Os, toileting, most call lights, and vitals and also have to clean up patient rooms, empty trash/linen. The med/surg floors are always very dirty and outdated, with ripped wall paper, dust bunnies, dirty kitchenettes, overflowing trash, germy carpeting that is never shampooed, etc..  Supplies are always low or out, especially on weekends. We have to run to other floors looking for supplies most days. Equipment is hard to find, the floors have to share equipment such as EZ stands, vein finders, etc. Heavy patient loads (traumas, trachs, chest tubes, orthopedic surgeries, dementia) take a lot of time, not enough staff to help out with call lights when loads are heavy. Scheduling keeps the bare minimum of staff on the busy floors and sends staff to other units that don't really need the help. Patients have to wait at least 30+ minutes for 2 staff members for 2 assist activities (boosts, walks, brief changes, baths, first time up, etc). Housekeeping is rarely on the floor because they are also short staffed. (Only 1 housekeeper on night shift for the entire hospital), sometimes nursing staff has to clean rooms for admits coming up when housekeeping is busy. We are constantly being expected to do more, and do better, with less and less staff to get it all done. 

I view ThedaCare as a great place to work.  I have job security,  receive decent benefits and competitive wages, and I feel that I have an impact on our patients every day.  

ThedaCare is a culture focused on improvements, which is the way of the future.  Healthcare is becoming more and more expensive.  ThedaCare is at the forefront of finding ways of improving our quality of care, while reducing the cost to patients.  Sometimes this means making difficult decisions, which are not the most popular with some staff members.  However, we are an organization that is focusing on doing what is right for our patients.  We have all entered healthcare for a reason, and some staff members may lose sight of that -- we are here for our patients.  

There are current (and past) employees who blame management for this being a "horrible place to work."  That's not the truth.  Management does what is best for our patients, while also asking for staff input and feedback.  Management cannot respond to grievances or concerns from staff if they don't know about it.  I have witnessed dozens of staff members who would rather talk to coworkers about their complaints, but say nothing to management.  This creates a toxic, negative environment...fueled by the staff.  Negativity is infectious - it brings people down.  Just stop the negativity.  There are so many worse things in life than coming to a job that pays fairly and competitively, that allows flexibility with vacations and time off, and one that allows employee's ideas and opinions to matter.  

If you want a change or if you have a concern, find the courage to speak to management about it in a respectful way.  Management is respectful and willing to listen, as long as staff members are respectful in return.  

Bottom line:  A great place to work.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Worked on ServiceNow as a Consultant at Evergreen - for ThedaCare Inc.  The Best part was the people at ThedaCare were very kind and very friendly. This made working at ThedaCare a Joy.  There were some technical issues with the tool but having nice people to work around does make your work pleasant and less stressful.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The only stressful part was just the tickets that came into the tool was all pushed into the Incident table. If a ticket by design was to be a request ticket instead of an Incident ticket, and there were a Hugh number of tickets that should have been a request ticket, it makes reporting very hard to be accurate.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The people were so pleasant and helpful that it just makes everyone want to come together as a team and solve the issue. The structure of the categories for Incident tickets and the difference between IM & Requests made this challenge hard however, everyone wants to come together as a team and solve the issue and I believe that is great!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day is we would jump of a team's call every day and we step by step would walk through the data issues with the tickets Incidents & Requests, then we would discuss the requirements for the requests explaining the difference between Incidents & Requests. At this point we have a category & subcategory so we can start the build of the request that is needed. We work so well together we just easily agree who has the time to develop the missing request. It is really a pleasure to work this way with people.

The assumption by the general public is that when working for a healthcare organization like ThedaCare, that employee benefits such as health insurance are affordable and provixe really great coverage. That is simply not true. Employee health insurance premiums increase annually with very little raise or feeling of appreciation while working for ThedaCare. On a positive, tuition reimbursement is $2500/year, yet this is really low standard if ThedaCare was interested in being an employer of choice. Curious the annual salaries of the executives here as well as board members. For being a non-profit organization, it has a strong oligarchical feel. Nurses were not recognized yet doctors were recognized. RNs are treated poorly, almost to the point of envy by HR leaders. Eliminated Baylor plan, nurses are not viewed as any more important than administrative staff (to their own detriment). Work, work, work for less, less, less is their mantra... I hope it improves as ThedaCare is one of the largest employers in NE Wisconsin and therefore have a social responsibility...ought to treat employees better through incentives, both financial and otherwise, remain non-partisan especially given their non-profit status, and give greater benefits to its employees (not just the ones at the top). Hopefully they improve, but unlikely.

It used to be a well organized nice  place to work. I worked there 10 years. As the years went by it continually went downhill. Many benefits were lost and as I am informed it is still happening. It was always a hard job but there were enough people to do the jobs. It has become a very stressful and demanding job. All departments are short. 
The hospital was known for its cardiac unit. The unit is leaving and going independent. Many good doctors have left to work at other hospitals in the area. Many people close to retirement are leaving for fear of loosing what they already have invested in retirement they feel its that uncertain. Managers in my department always ask people to work over but won’t pitch in themselves or stay over. Moral is bad. Many hires leave within days and weeks. You can’t keep taking benefits away from people and them expect them to weather the storm. Last I heard they were 44% down in employees overall. No I would not recommend this job to my worst enemy.
People are overworked,stressed and scared. Personally I plan on changing doctors so I don’t have to go to any Thedacare Hospitals. You may think I hated my job I didn’t, not until the last year before I retired.

I was only there a couple months so I wasn't familiar with everything. THere is A LOT to know in the PSR position. Not a job for a black and white thinker , or a big rule follower.  I had 7 or 8 different trainers each one does things a little differently. May be multiple ways to get to the same place. Many screens inside screens in Epic.  Were flexible in scheduling for Dr. appointment that was scheduled b4 I was hired. 
Make sure to punch in 7 min. before scheduled time so you have time to set up before start time.
My co-workers were all very welcoming and included me. Supervisors and co-workers help how ever they can, easy to approach.
We had mini meetings right in our work area to bring us updates.
Kids coming into Pediatric Clinic are cute as a button, some can make you laugh. Can be easy to turn a frown into a smile.
Summer vacations are given on a bidding system based on length of employment. 1st come 1st serve. Don't book any trips until you know you can get that time off....if date is taken your trip will be vetoed, no exceptions.

Very busy crazy day in a lab people doing this and people doing that and then management comes in and says oh yeah by the way we also need you guys to be doing this to.  What are your thoughts and feelings on that?  Staff tells them their concerns and in some/most aspects it goes unheard unless it comes from a staff member they feel has a valid point or is a " favorite" then it will be addressed in a prompt/timely manner.  Again I will state this makes things very difficult and frustrating when you feel like you are never heard or not good enough to be heard.  Very sad for such a great company and for someone that strives to always do the best for the patient's.  The worst part is working with a few bad apples and watching them get away with everything they do and cause the rest of team un-necessary stress.  The greatest part is working with some of the most fabulous staff and patient's I have ever got to work with in my life. All I have ever wanted to do is help people and going to work everyday and making even one patient/ coworker smile makes my life worth living.  I loved my job and loved working for this company minus the few bumps in the road along the way.

This job took everything out of me. I busted my rear end for far to long and for far to little. Human Resources is extremely deceitful. I applied for 4 different jobs as an internal candidate. I never even received a phone call as to why I was not considered for these positions. Mean while, I saw 3 of my co workers get jobs as internal candidates elsewhere within thedacare. That is so disrespectful and can not be tolerated. The only way I was getting out of my current position was to resign, so I did. DO NOT WORK HERE. They keep the departments on the brink of collapse to save money on labor. Our department is consistently one call in away from a melt down. You will be forced to work over your FTE consistently and forced to work overnights and then back to days with one day turn around. Patients will turn in slips complimenting you on your interaction with them and the company will purposefully hide this from you. I will never work for this evil company again and I will tell everyone I know not to be patients here. Everyone hates their job and cant stand it here. No one cares about the patients because the culture is terrible. Absolutely the worst job I have ever had. 

ThedaCare is a great organization overall with a lot of genuine and helpful people. But the specific team I was on needs a lot of improvement. I felt that some of the individuals I worked with were absolutely wonderful and some were rather rude at times. I felt like with some individuals, I would ask questions to learn more and I felt like I was walking on eggshells daily. I had gotten some condescending responses when I would question certain things politely that I was trained on, to simply gain a better understanding. Especially with regard to policies and procedures. I had no prior experience working in the medical field and just wanted to do the best I could and was always told to keep asking questions. I became afraid to approach management and didn’t feel like I had adequate support toward the end of my time there regarding a few of the concerns I had. At the end of the day, on this particular team, I felt like a number and I didn’t feel appreciated by management or my team. This unfortunately seems to be a common theme with the corporate world these days. I felt like I tried to just be myself and to fit in, but it ultimately didn’t work out. 


At a typical day at work, you can expect to have upwards of 6-8 patient with different acuity and patient needs. New skills are inhabitable from the work flow and floor.  PCT’s can expect to learn new skills every shift, varying from each unit. Troubleshooting hardships in this position is expected to look like navigating chronic understaffing, balancing demanding workloads, providing frequent clarification and justification of support staff responsibilities to colleagues and leadership, advocating for the needs of frontline team members, and maintaining a high standard of patient care despite limited recognition and support from management.

The organization’s management structure appeared fundamentally compromised by conflicts of interest and a disregard for equitable treatment. Decision-making was frequently influenced by personal biases rather than objective standards or organizational interests.
