This position is great for someone just out of school/young, pursuing p-tech degree or needing plant experience. Not a place to make a career at or advance since there is not much opportunity. Techs get stuck at certain tech levels even if they have completed the training and do the work of that tech level. It is unfortunate that this position is a stepping stone. There is a high turnover rate. I truly believe it is the pay and benefits provided for the type of work performed. The job is not hard in the mental sense but takes a toll on your body. Techs carry a 30 pound backpack for several hours a day (climbing up to 200 ft at times) in hazardous environment and in the elements. If you are used to making more than $18 an hour this is not it. 

If you like working outdoors and are a loner it is great. More than half the day you are off by yourself working your route. I did enjoy that. It is also nice to constantly be looking for something so the time passes fast. 

Management is also nice and understanding if you have something come up. 

Equipment is an issue. Equipment is not well maintained and constantly breaking. 

This company is like most others in that there are good and bad points.  And some people will enjoy something that others do not.  For instance, many like the compensation/benefits program.  Personally, I think it is too expensive.  Some would say training new employees needs work.  Others, with extensive training backgrounds and industry knowledge would agree only in that ALL programs in EVERY company need work.  Never stop improving.  Leadership is ever changing and fluid as a result of constant evaluation and adjustment to provide the best quality product for clients.  At the end of the day, the work environment REQUIRES personal accountability.  LDAR Techs spend most of the day functioning alone.  Therefore, it is prudent that they are self starters, self learners, and self producers.  Leadership will not always hand deliver answers.  They will teach the employee how to find the answer themselves.  For some, this is a difficult concept.  For others, it's a place to flourish.  This works for me.  

The company is great honestly. If you do your job you'll be taken care of. In LDAR understand the job has to be done. Its regulated by the EPA . You usually work your shift and go home. Weather does take a toll on you in different ways. You'll work in the heat and cold depending on where you are at. Very safety conscious company so they wont over work you. Unfortunately if weather puts you behind enough you will have to work more hours to catch up. Managers have treated me well and take care of their employees. Unfortunately this is one of the lowest paying jobs in the plants, that goes for all LDAR companies, its easy but gets boring very quickly. You'll do the same thing every day looking at the same thing for hours. Be prepared to climb EVERYTHING because we check EVERYTHING. You will go up every platform and tower your company is responsible for checking.

The workers are great to work with most of the time and the job is easy to the point where it’s almost mind numbing. Local management especially around the WTX/SENM region is great, really helpful, and kind most of the time. The problem is when you deal with the folks at corporate in houston, while most of the folks are super nice, the higher ups seem to be very disconnected from life in the field and seem to be more interested in lining the pockets of the company than providing a nice work environment. They cut our overtime and seem to get very snarky when you mention bonuses or pay increases. while i will say there is some opportunity to move up, you kind of hit a dead end once you become a supervisor. Don’t even get me started about the clients you work with, half the time they’re just plane horrible to work with and upper management is too busy trying to please them to make sure their actual employees are happy. 

This company has a good schedule with a 4 day 10 hour work week. It creates a decent life/work balance. Local managers and site supervisors are always good to work for, above them the company gets rather difficult. Upper management is detached from the woes of the field workers, they refuse to push and fight for the lower level workers. Pay is manageable to live off of, but only after a few years of working here. They also try to entice new employees with bonuses and larger pay increases, while forgetting about the long term people who are the ones who draw the billable revenue for the company as a whole. They do a decent job at providing needed PPE and fire retardant clothing as it is needed in most sites. Coworkers are decent as far as I have experienced, minimal drama or office conflicts. 

The work itself isn't fun or necessarily exciting, but it is necessary. Having worked with other LDAR companies in the past, this one is the most enjoyable and is more rewarding than previous employers in terms of recognition.

Hours can be long but time flies by with like-minded individuals that work together at our site.

If looking to become involved in LDAR, I'd recommend Think Environmental over any competitors. 

Pros of the job include 3 day weekends, decent pay and benefits as well as positive work environment.

Negatives include working in uncomfortable temperatures and the job can be pretty physical.

The management doesn't seem to care about you beyond you getting your work done so they can sit around bsing without being disturbed while doing the minimal work possible. The work is tedious and unfullfilling. The pay you get is fair enough considering how easy the work is but when you take into consideration that the company is contracted mostly by refineries so you work in dangerous areas it is a farcry from being fair pay.

Work week was Monday through Thursday working 4 10's. That was a big plus. Three day weekend was nice. Hardest part of the job is working outside year round and trying to meet the monthly and annual balances with a small crew. It's a great way to get your foot in the door and start your career in the oil and gas industry getting hands on experience and being inside the plants.

I don’t recall anything good about working for this company.

Pushing to get numbers on equipment leaks. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Management was something special. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Test equipment prior to starting your day and then go find leaks.

I would not recommend this company unless you like to work with broke down equipment and you have Supervisors that are so lazy, they won’t get out there and show you the ropes. They have no training program in place. They basically give you a pack and send you on your way. They will watch you struggle and then belittle you when you ask for help.
