Three Oaks Hospice

I’ve been a registered nurse in home health and hospice for over 15 years, and Three Oaks Hospice (Waxahachie/Dallas) is by far the best company I’ve worked for.

Management genuinely cares about you as a person—not just as an employee. You're treated with respect, supported in your role, and appreciated for your contributions. The culture here is incredibly positive and team-oriented. My fellow nurses are always willing to help each other, and there's a true spirit of collaboration.

I've been with Three Oaks for a year and a half now, and I’ve never felt overworked or burned out. The work-life balance is the best I’ve ever experienced, and the pay is excellent.

If I had one complaint, it’s that I didn’t find this company sooner. If you're a nurse looking for a supportive, well-run, and rewarding place to work, I can’t recommend Three Oaks highly enough.

Some good people in the field but not in leadership. Leadership from top down had some unreasonable goals and expectations.  It was expected to contact key accounts 2 to 3 times per week which had many facilities annoyed. Micro managed with tracking schedule and calls 2 to 3 ways and constantly asked where are the referrals which lead to frustration and a loss of moral across the board.  The expectation was to be on call 24/7 and if you didn't respond to a referral after hours or on weekends you were punished or terminated. No accountability to leadership.  HR was unresponsive and contributed to the issue.  
Not an isolated issue as the reps in other locations (not Texas) have said similar things.  What works around Dallas doesn't always work elsewhere.  Base pay and bonuses weren't bad.  Benefits were to expensive.
Rumors are the owners are just trying to build it up to sell it to someone else.  I wouldn't recommend working for The Oaks Hospice.

I loved three oaks until I didn’t. In the 1/2 yrs that I was there, there was a 95% turnover. Besides myself, the only other employees that were there from the day I started was one other nurse, a chaplain and a social worker. Management changed and to me the  values changed along with it. They are officially the same (listen, care, serve) but to me while I understood it is a business the patient mattered less. The workplace culture is amazing. Management besides one not so much. No on call unless you volunteer. You work one major and one minor holiday by first come first serve and will get a day off by your choosing in exchange. If you do your bedside charting you should never have to open your laptop at home which is provided by the company. Overall I loved my job and only left because of management. 

Three Oaks Hospice has given me the opportunity to learn and grow with an amazing team. The leadership has been very supportive and allowed me opportunities to attend conferences where I can expand my knowledge and bring back valuable information to share with our team. We are constantly learning together and from one another. TOH values its employees and offers a variety of employee engagement opportunities so that we not only feel like one team, but we have fun while doing it. Employee retention has been a big focus. Management listens and strives to work through obstacles. They truly want to build leaders and see employees advance. They are not big on micromanaging if you're doing your job; its that simple. I look forward to coming to work every day mostly because of the awesome team I get to work alongside with.

Really knowledgeable hospice team that will help you learn and try to utilize you to your fullest potential. Achievements are recognized and overall I feel valued as an employee. The management team is accessible and willing to listen to new ideas and embrace them and will hold you accountable to execute your job's function in a supportive way. There is room to grow at Three Oaks and more opportunities will arise as the company gets larger. Supportive BOD/executives for new ideas that gives general freedom to pursue things that you feel are important if they will move the company forward.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Their EMR is terrible. Always had to chart at home, every night!

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Their management was not organized. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Depending on the PCM. Mine was toxic

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stand up call at 0845 (waste of time-found no benefit to it. Obviously other team members weren't listening even though they were on the call), tried to get to first pts home by 915am. Saw 4 to 6 pts a day. I hated their tablets. Terrible connection. Terrible EMR!!!! Always had work to do after my 8 hrs.

Their scheduling is really bad. Pts are unhappy d/t a constant changing to the schedule. Every 2 weeks they had a different aide and it would infuriate them. Marketers would recruit personal friends and made promise with high expectations that the staff could not fulfill and would cause a enormous amount of stress. And marketers response to that would be to suck it up!

When you work here all your hard work is noticed, appreciated and rewarded. From day one I felt like I belonged and there was none of the new job awkwardness that there usually is. Everyone is so welcoming and helpful. On the application it states that there are “advancement opportunities” and this is true no matter the position you start in. The upper management is very loyal to their loyal staff members. Working here has been the beset job experience I’ve had. 

My role come with many responsibilities and education is provided on a daily basis by my team to ensure I am achieving success with Three Oaks.

the hardest part of my position are the demands to meet deadlines as there are in every company but I am always provided the time that i need to get it all done
The most enjoyable part of my job is the team that i work with and the reward of being in this role, helping families from behind the scenes as an office employee. 

The company is micromanaged.  They have favorites and the favorite people are believed in anything they say and are not rep-remanded for anything.  The inside qliq are facebook friends. The favorites are allowed to have prn staff work while they attend to personal issues.  The other clinicians are expected to accommodate the staff and the patients and work late hours.  It is an unfair system.  When off on vacation no one sees your patients and you have to come back and work extra.  However if you are a nurse they will accommodate you. The expectation is that the job comes before your family.
