Tonal

Tonal is a great company to work for. They have tons of great benefits and discounts available to employees. Mostly inbound leads but you are encouraged to run your shop like a small business meaning marketing and networking in your area. Salary is great for the position. Bonus program could be improved. Commission is only paid out when you reach monthly goal and sometimes isn’t paid out until 2 months after you earned it. Manager bonus is decent but the other monthly bonus program favor’s employees in shops who see more inbound leads. This position is extremely independent and I probably went more than 6 months without my regional visiting the office. Great people in the company and the machine basically sells itself. Hardest part of the job is managing the downtime, when there are no promotions there is less urgency for customers to visit the shop

Great products but the management is really below standard. Someone is always someone 's former coworker or former employees who makes the work environment as toxic as you can imagine. Especially, if you want to get in their Supply Chain group / Operations, be aware that you will face a bunch of middle management who are selfish,  ignorant, disrespectful, childish, egotistic.. 

Being in the Nordstrom as a full timer you’re only allowed one weekend out of the month to be off “if staffing allows it” why showroom managers only work one day out the weekend which is unfair already. The moral with the employees themselves is great but it’s an unstable work force since Tonal is attempting to be self sustainable and will lay off as many employees needed. 

they promised no second wave of lay offs but then they immediately broke that promise within the same fiscal year by laying me and a lot of others off with zero warning. 

they only care about sales and the pressure of making your personal sales goals/quota is very stressful. 

they constantly compare you to other people and there’s no room for growth. just criticism. 

Tonal has a great product….. but upper management lacks stability and consistency. A lot of uncertainty and empty statements. If you are a manager or supervisor in  the retail field, Expect to be stretched thin with tasks that should be conducted by other departments while not being compensated accordingly. 

Retail leadership is poor.
Few have industry experience so they aren't very helpful or knowledgeable. 
They micromanage regardless of results.
They preach about how you should be results driven, not money driven. 
Pay disparity between peers.
If they visit your showroom the only coaching the know how to provide is through Roleplay.


I enjoy the team I work with and most of the management staff make themselves available when you need them. They encourage you to use the chain of command and someone always gets back to you in a timely manner. The individuals are a pleasure to be around. The job is not always easy however it can be very rewarding. You have to be willing to put the work in and be a team player.

Awesome product. but the popularity grew too fast for the company which seems to have lead to hiring unqualified management micromanaging everyone. They made role playing and demo reviews more important than helping us land the sale. No commision and the checkout process for the sale could have been greatly simplified.

Great product but company culture needs structure and expertise.
Lots of unqualified people in upper management positions. 
No compensations for sales and houly wage does not fill the gap. 
The best thing about Tonal is the people you work with. 

Higher ups don't know what their doing, poor communication between teams (no one knows what their doing), lots of changeover, too much early hiring lead to many rounds of layoffs.
