Traditional Home Health Care

When I first was employed with Traditional in the Berwick, PA  office in 2021, they didnt quite have full time case availability, so I was put in different locations as a fill in until they found a steady case for me. I lived in Benton, PA at the time, which was a minimum 30 minute drive to the nearest client. The pay was average, not great but still above minimum wage. Not worth the travel time for the pay though, especially as gas is not cheap anymore. So I recommend not to live in Benton and work for this company. Management was great, friendly, on the ball with phone calls, scheduling, payroll, etc. Very helpful if you had a question or just needed assurance etc. After a couple months I finally got a full time case with 2 different clients which I had for a few months, not at the same time but different days of the week. The workload was great, the individuals i worked with were wonderful, no complaints on either end, mine or the clients. I ended up relocating to a different town a few months after that, which luckily Traditional had an office in the area i moved to so all I did was transfer my location and still was employed with them, I just had to find different cases to work. I was bounced around a little more but eventually found a steady case and a routine schedule. Pay was still the same, infact i think i made a dollar more in the new area. Management in the East Stroudsburg Office was great, personable, Friendly, very helpful, updated you with anything regarding work, they definitely did their job. Although the pay was the same, the travel distance was still an issue as its even more mountainous and eats more gas. And if you have bills and other necessities, it was rough trying to manage everything including the commute on a daily basis on this income alone. I eventually ended up getting sick and wasnt able to make it into work which ended my employment. I enjoyed working for TRADITIONAL, as well as working with their clients. I didnt have any issues with anyone, staff or patients, and the workload was decent.  There was some downtime, especially on the 12 hr shifts for the overnight positions as your client(s) are usually sleeping. But once you get your daily/nightly duties done and clients are properly cared for/assisted/supported and everything is completed, you can sit down and relax for a minute. It all depends on the case, client, and shifts as to how much down town you will have. There isn't designated brakes because you do have some down town throughout your shift. The workload was not strenious, or overwhelming. Its was quite pleasent and easy going. I would recommend this company to anyone serious about persuing the Healthcare field, or for someone looking to switch companies from your current employer. Great support/care staff/coworkers, great management, average starting wage. Definitely a place to build experience towards a rewarding healthcare career. If you are serious about making a difference in someone's life and can guarantee positive rapport with clients, then give this company a shot. Great company to start with. 

Been here for 4 months. I am enjoying my case load and the area that I am assigned too. The patient case load for Home Health Hospice is pretty normal. We get together as a team once a week t to discuss and support one another. Most of the meetings are informational and we are usually joined by the Doc assigned. I would love to see better benefits, but honestly Marketplace was worse!!!! and Highmark is typical in this area for offered medical. Dental, vision, short term and life insurance were offered during the interview process. 401K will be offered to me in a few months - you have to be an employee for a year. The interview process to me took a little long but was pretty straight forward. My license was in NJ so that held me up. Orientation you can expect at least a day. Pretty straight forward you meet everyone on each of the floor at the house (which is the office building) and fill out your tax forms, etc. From there I had to do training for two weeks maybe more??? Just because I haven't used the software and I didn't really have a ton of Home Health - only grandparents in their home. I am overall happy with the schedule and the job. I do have to say I have never worked for an employer that REALLY cared about my or all employees for that matter to drive in our wintery mess during the winter months. I haven't taken vacation days yet, but we get two weeks and they DO NOT roll over so make sure you use them!!! Again overall really good company, staff, pay, etc.

Let me start by saying that I love the type of work I do and I love my clients. However I don’t love having to work mandatory 12 days in a row and only getting 4 days off a month. Work/life balance is almost nonexistent and for the pay it really isn’t worth it. You don’t get paid for travel time or mileage in between clients, if you get a holiday off it’s either because it fell on your actual day off or the clients didn’t want you to come that day, you don’t get sick days, and the PTO is a joke. You have to basically work two months to get one day PTO. 
It’s not all bad of course, if you have to work a holiday you do get time and a half, you can set your availability minus the fact that you still have to work every other weekend even if your availability doesn’t include those days, most of the clients are sweethearts and don’t really need to much from you, you get set up with permanent clients so you do get to develop a bond with them, you don’t work overnight hours, the office staff are very nice and accommodating when you have appointments, and if working long hours is your thing there are always hours that need to be covered and you can request those hours through the apps the company uses. If the company owners would care a little more about the employees work/life balance, pay either a little more/pay for travel time, and make earning PTO more realistic this company with be a lot better place to work.

Traditional Home Care offers some technically knowledgeable leadership, but the internal culture makes it a highly stressful place to work. Early on, onboarding was virtually nonexistent, leaving me entirely unassisted to manage day-to-day office operations. Once new leadership took over, communication deteriorated significantly. Both the regional management and HR utilize an aggressive approach rather than a collaborative one.

Furthermore, because senior executives and regional oversight maintain close personal friendships outside of the workplace, personal relationships are consistently valued over professional accountability. Legitimate workplace issues are routinely ignored because upper management actively avoids necessary conflict resolution. Combined with a judgmental environment where leadership makes highly unprofessional comments regarding individual appearances, the workplace lacks structural support and basic respect. 

I cannot recommend this company to anyone seeking a supportive, accountable, and professional environment.

As an RN I have worked in 2 hospitals in Pennsylvania and 1 yr in a  nursing home. I have worked in home health for 5 years and I am enjoying this company so far. I have yet to come across micromanaging which is a plus in my book. I feel like as long as you do the job then you will be left alone. The pay is relative to the job, I was told my pay would be based on experience and it pretty much is. I took a $1.00 dollar an hour pay cut but I don't have to work nights!!!! Which is great.....personally don't enjoy working nights. Though they do offer on call which you can pick up for extra $$. I think if anything it would be great to have some type of company discount for car maintenance like oil change or detailing. Other than that I'm happy.

This place has been the best career move for me and my family.  Home health has very demanding charting, but who doesn't in health care anymore. I love the time you get with patients and see the difference you can make in their lives.  The health benefits are fair, but besides hospitals , I do not see a difference in health care costs.  It is a very personable and family oriented atmosphere.  You can go to anyone in management and discuss issues, without having to go through corporate channels. They are always willing to help any employee out and find options to make it work for you.  The flexibility is the best when you have families.  You are not locked into a hospital shift, and easy to make appointments or get to family events in between your day.  Salary is just at standards in the area. They will pay you if do anything extra.

Resigning… by far the worst experience ever…..pay was horrible.. nurses were rude, unprofessional… I strongly discourage considering employment here..

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
You will drive and not be reimbursed… God forbid you need medical help… insurance premiums and deductibles so high you will most likely need psychological support to cope…

Office is teeming with self-serving,  privileged and nasty women who thrive on gossip and berating hard working and underpaid field staff.. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
With or without SSRIs ?  ( you will need LOTS)

What is the best part of working at the company?
The patients are great For the most part.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The nursing documentation takes you way past your work day and spills into your days off ...continuously. You can travel up to one hundred miles a day in  between patients. It's a very demanding job.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Daily drama. Unprofessional. The bottom line is money not patients.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Visiting patients all day. Doing a lot of traveling then documenting when you get home. Very difficult if you have family relying on you. Hard to get things accomplished in your personal life.

Advice for the very rude and argumentative person who contacts prospective nurses to work on private duty cases. When you offer a low ball rate, that was less than a new grad rate 20 years ago, do not be surprised or disappointed when an experienced nurse refuses the job. Simply because the entire state has been completely saturated with licensed nurses, and you may find someone desperate enough to accept such an insulting pay rate, you won't have reliable or dedicated, lasting staff. You will be in  a cycle of constant turnover...the pits for your clients, and just as bad for you. Learn a thing or two about low ball pay. The lower the rate, the quicker the turnover. Pennies saved are nurses lost, and nurses lost means no client.

I’ve been with the company a year and my experience is that the lower you get in the chain of command, the less respected you are and the more the company engages in policy and practices that put their profits above the employees and even the clients we serve. If you’re an aide, they don’t listen to your concerns and are unresponsive when you raise red flags. They chip away at benefits, they promise bonuses you never receive, they make it difficult to get needed supplies, they manufacture petty excuses not to give you a raise despite an exemplary work history—they just demonstrate over and over that aides really don’t have any value to this company and it leaves you feeling no better than a piece of equipment.
