Working directly with the residents was the best part of this job. Building relationships with them and helping them each day made the work meaningful and gave me valuable experience as a medication technician and caregiver. The job itself teaches time management, medication administration, teamwork, and how to handle challenging situations in long-term care.

Unfortunately, management and communication were inconsistent. Staff often felt unsupported, and concerns were not always addressed fairly or professionally. Scheduling could be unpredictable, and policies were not always applied consistently, which created unnecessary stress for employees. There were times when the facility appeared to be operating with minimal staffing, making an already demanding job even more difficult.

The hardest part of the job was balancing resident care while working short-staffed. The most enjoyable part was the residents and the coworkers who genuinely cared about providing quality care. This can be a good place to gain experience, but improvements in leadership, communication, and employee support would make a significant difference.

At the start of my shift id be assigned to one of three positions. Each position has different tasks, one you fill up snacks on the snack list for morning, afternoon, and night of the next day and then assist the cook. Second, do objectives on the cleaning list and assist wherever else needed. Finally, the third position cleans the dining room tables and set up the tables with table clothes, silverware, bread plates (if needed), and cups then does dishes in the dish room. By the time all this is done we serve lunch, person one calls out the cards and special diets. Person two and three put trays in the cart for residents that eat in their room then person three calls the menu ans the cart over the loud speaker for the nurses to get the cart. Person one starts sweeping the kitchen while the other two pass out desserts. Person two comes back and mops and number three monitors the dining room for anyone that would need anything. Next we have ten minute break after that person one starts dishes while the other two busses the dining room and one and two do dishes while three sets up the dining room ans we do everything over again for dinner .

The facility has been under new management over the past year.  Though the administrator certainly is not a warm and fuzzy person, many good changes have been made.  Long-term care is a difficult environment to work in.  There are always call-offs and staffing can be challenging.   The vast majority of the employees at Autumn Grove are dedicated, caring team players.  There are always a few that aren't, but that is everywhere.   Adjusting as a new employee can be difficult as there are two distinct environments in the facility and the culture is unlike anywhere I've ever worked before.  Floating between units and the culture take a bit of getting used to, but it is worth taking the time to do so.   There are very few slackers at Autumn Grove.  It's great working in a place where people actually work and help each other.  People aren't hiding in rooms on their phone while call lights are going off everywhere.   The facility is clean.  The residents are clean.  

Admin and Supervisory staff lack professional ethics for running a healthcare facility. Employee retention is low due to workplace toxicity, yet dolling out bonuses seem to keep some of the aides around. Nursing staff are over seasoned and have lost their compassion and drive. Unbearable to see residents are being made to wait way too long for assistance. Corporate policies are often neglected and repeatedly overlooked. The Kitchen staff are the unsung heroes, the hardest working and underrated. Maintenance dept. had a top tier director who could repair anything, but resigned due to the administrative issues. Laundry and Housekeeping keeps on keeping on. They do a great job with what they have. Activities needs a lot of revamping. Physical Therapy is awesome at what they do. All in all a great place to work for the residents.

A typical work day included being short staffed, not getting a lunch break, having too many tasks to complete. They want you to work over to complete the tasks, but you're not allowed to come in early to help complete all tasks. I was taken off the schedule for asking for one day off. the manager lied to H.R. telling them i changed my availability because i requested certain hours one day. I learned that HR is there for the company, not the workers. The hardest part of the job was never being appreciated, being short staffed, the favoritism the manager showed to full time employees. He told me that everyone thought i wasnt part of the team because i wasnt there full time. The most enjoyable part of the job was getting to help the residents and getting to leave for the day.

They do an excellent job of building a positive team culture. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Coverage expectation. As with most Home Health companies, there’s a disconnect between field staff and office personnel. I would have patients an hour drive between them. PRN employees were given patients that were much closer together. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Excellent culture…Great people! Excellent leadership…Sometimes 1st level management seem to ignore employee concerns, but we’re responsive to patient issues.

Seeing patients in their homes for Home Health visits

I'm afraid to say as it might be taken away.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
constant adjustments that are simply looked upon as SOP and residents that are impossible to please.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Definite disconnect between the hands off managerial/supervisory and the front line workers with little if any appreciation ever shown. Mandatory meetings where questions are asked for then the Administrator screams at people for asking in front of EVERYONE.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Attempting to help the residents that are very difficult to please. Very busy and not always staffed enough.

I have alot of experience in nursings homes & dietary is what I do. I know every job even dietary Manager. Because it is a fast pace kind of industry with a large turn over rate. This place makes other places look so organized and I want to work in an environment that follows the rules. I actually do my job and care. I would not recommend this job to anyone that has never worked in dietary because this place doesn't train you and they get annoyed when you ask about things like the mats.. I also did not feel comfortable having more knowledge than my boss, who is temporarily there and has never been in dietary before. It was bad. I have alot of experience and It was not worth my mental health 

This facility at one time was a good place to work. But repeated changes in management makes it hard to keep a structured environment . And since the facility has become a negative environment to work in. There is no support from management . They pick and choose when they want to follow the handbook . It’s not a fair place to work. They don’t care if you worked their for multiple years, you are not a person just an employee . They don’t care as long as all the shifts are covered. They tolerate and allow poor care to be given as long as the shift is covered . They do not listen to their employees. Poor place to work.
