This is the strongest review I can give based on my experience. Over the past year, the organization has changed dramatically, and not in a positive way.

In my experience, leadership and internal operations have become increasingly disorganized and reactive, with major decisions being made without a full understanding of what is happening at the operational level. This has created constant instability for both managers and frontline staff.

Although the organization frequently speaks about its mission, vision, and values, the daily reality does not consistently reflect those principles. Leadership behavior often feels disconnected from the standards that are publicly promoted, which has contributed to low morale and widespread organizational dysfunction.

The leadership environment is highly emotionally charged, creating an unsafe and unpredictable work environment. Situations are frequently handled through reaction rather than thoughtful problem solving, which damages trust and escalates conflict instead of resolving it.

The internal culture is deeply unhealthy. There is widespread gossip, backstabbing, and a lack of psychological safety. Instead of collaboration, there is competition, personal insecurity and fear, which undermines morale and productivity.

Processes around employee relations are inconsistent and confusing. Investigations feel poorly structured, communication is unclear, and outcomes often appear disconnected from facts or due process. As a result, turnover is extremely high, with employees leaving or being terminated on a near constant basis. This level of instability takes a serious toll on the remaining staff and the quality of care being delivered.

Interactions between staff, union representation, management, and HR often feel adversarial rather than supportive. In my experience, conflict is frequently escalated instead of de-escalated, and situations that should be handled calmly and objectively become emotionally charged.

HR processes lack consistency and structure. Investigations do not appear to follow a clear, fact-based framework, and conclusions often feel rushed or disconnected from documented information. This reactive approach erodes trust across the organization and contributes significantly to the ongoing instability, fear, and high turnover.

The mission matters. The people on the ground care. But the current leadership culture and internal systems are driving instability, burnout, and turnover at a level that is not sustainable for staff or for the community being served.

I’d like to share my experience working at this healthcare center for anyone considering joining the team. While the organization's mission and values are admirable, I’ve found that the leadership style, particularly from the current CEO, can create a challenging work environment. Many decisions seem to stem from personal feelings rather than being consistently tied to performance evaluations, leading to confusion about job expectations.

There are some strong leaders within the organization who truly make a difference, but navigating the overall atmosphere can be complicated. I’ve spoken with previous employees who share concerns regarding the CEO’s approach and the impact it has on organizational dynamics. The interaction between leadership and outside of work they do together raises potential conflicts of interest, making it difficult to trust that workplace issues will be handled impartially.

Additionally, the lack of formal employee relations training across the organization is concerning. This can lead to misunderstandings and miscommunication, further complicating the working environment. Department are assigned to complete employee relations investigations that have never been formally trained on how to complete an investigation. 

In my opinion, the organization may improve once leadership changes occur. If you are considering a position here, it may be wise to think carefully about your options. As with any job, it's important to assess whether the environment aligns with your values and career goals. While I appreciate the benefits of the position and the fact that there are no weekend shifts, the concerns I’ve outlined suggest that potential applicants should proceed with caution. 

Overall, run like the wind



I want people to know that not all negative reviews come from disgruntled employees—some of us just want to tell the truth. From my experience, having seen the company’s inner workings from the top down, the real problem lies in poor leadership and a toxic work culture.  

The executive team is anything but professional. There’s no trust or discretion—I’ve personally witnessed executives gossip about each other behind their backs, creating a high-school-like atmosphere. On top of that, leadership lacks basic management skills. The HR department is a perfect example—there have been four different Directors of HR in just three years. Why? Because anyone who brings fresh ideas or tries to improve things doesn’t last long. They’re pushed out without cause, leaving employees with no reliable support. Need help? Good luck. HR tickets often go unanswered because there’s no consistent team to handle them.  

When I started, leadership promised a “flat organization” with an open-door policy—but that’s just a talking point. Most days, the executive team is nowhere to be found, and when they are, they don’t want to hear your concerns. You’re told to talk to your manager or submit a ticket, but the chances of getting a response are slim. Employees are left feeling unheard, unrecognized, and completely undervalued—and the sky-high turnover rate proves it.  

The only bright spot? The mission. Serving the community’s health needs is meaningful work, and many of us stay because we care about that—not because of how we’re treated.  

At the end of the day, no matter how important the mission is, it’s hard to overlook the toxic culture, poor leadership, and lack of support. This could be a great place to work—but right now, it’s not.

What was once created to provide exceptional care for lower income families has pretty much turned into a melting pot of high school drama, gossip, laziness, unexperienced group of individuals. If you are looking to work somewhere that will eventually help you climb the ladder, this is not the place for you. Unless you have been there 20+ years, know someone personally, or are ready to throw the knowledgeable people under the bus then you may be able to climb that ladder a couple of steps. Management is a complete joke! They tell you what to do but are unwilling to do the same. You know it's a toxic environment when the CEO of the company resigns. The so called medical assistants there that claim to have 10 plus years are a complete joke as well, my goodness I have never seen a group of ladies that are unwilling to give injections but yet claim to be a medical assistant. And wont name any names, but a few of the senior MA's there run those clinics and cover their laziness by running to the so called union they pay into. There is no such thing as "patient care", they try to get in as many as they can and then run them out and leave them in the dark. It's a complete embarrassment to the Tricities. All this company knows how to do is take advantage of the people who WANT to work and run the GOOD QUALITY staff out the door.

Job security and advancement
In terms of job security at Tri-Cities Community Health, I think it is fairly strong. They can't keep staff so are desperate to have providers.

Management
In general, managers at Tri-Cities Community Health is the worst about rhe company. The CEO micromanages rather than hiring leaders he can trust and giving them space to lead. Every little thing has to be flown up the flag pole and it results in beauracracy, red tape, and inefficiencies. Direct managment treats providers with very little respect. Dental and Behavioral Health Depts treated very poorly.

Overall
My experience working at Tri-Cities Community Health has been stressful. I am ready to move on to a place where I feel respected and valued.

85% hispanic patients. Management/Admin support lacking/biased on non-MD providers. Rules not consistently followed. PTO and sick leave great. Support for providers not prioritized--a simple question will have to go through months before answered and before answer ever implemented--can get very stressful. "At will" so good if you are unhappy you can leave any time. Pay very low compared to other FQHCs--but if you look at the administrative building, you will understand where the money is going versus patient rooms that are outdated, old, small. Staffing low because they do not want to increase wage/salary thus employees leave and/or abuse the PTO and sick leave leaving providers with no help. Admin support each other but no support for providers. Whoever "speaks the loudest" will get what they want, even if they have said no to another employee of equal status--i'm talking about schedule preferences, off, help/MAs.

I unfortunately found this place to be a difficult work environment primarily due to management practices. The executive team including the CEO often lacked effective communication and leadership skills, which led to low morale among employees. There were frequent issues with professionalism, ethics, and respect, which created a challenging atmosphere for those just trying to do their jobs well.

While the clinic promotes admirable values, these were not consistently upheld in daily operations. It was disappointing to see that the mission we all wanted to support was not fully embraced at the management level. I hope the company will prioritize a more supportive and respectful work culture in the future, as this would benefit both employees and the organization as a whole.


What is the best part of working at the company?
The Coworkers you have and other people that work for the company. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The way they make excuses to not increase your wage even though your department makes a lot of money for them. They rather pay for a $10,000 personalized table instead of increasing wages. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Sometimes good. If the AC doesn’t work they give you a cooler of water bottles and a mist machine outside your door where your allowed to take breaks but they expect you to work in over 80 degree weather with full gear on because they don’t want to loose money by sending you home even though patients and your team are dying of heat strokes.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Super busy but coworkers make it an amazing day.

 My naivete.  The management do not really care about medical care quality, physician or NP quality, or open communication.  The management team includes people who have no qualifications to fulfill their responsibilities and therefore do not communicate well with providers, who they fear.  The CEO does not want anyone around him that understands his motivations.  The pharmacy director is less qualified than his employees.  It goes downhill from there.

It is depressing to know that your company retains management based on subservience to the CEO etc rather than having character or qualifications. Why would a talented physician want to take advice from an optometrist the medical director.  That is ridiculous, but that person does the bidding of the CEO.

Working at Tri-Cities Community Health was a great stepping-stone for my career as a healthcare provider. I’d always had some interest in medicine, but for whatever reason I thought I wouldn’t succeed in this field. After some rigorous soul-searching, I decided to push my doubts aside and become certified as a medical assistant. Best decision I’ve ever made! I blended right in as soon as I started working here, and after a few years of working and consulting with providers, I decided that it was time to go back to school to further my career in the healthcare industry. I feel so lucky to have found my calling and for meeting such great, supportive people!
