Thinking of working for this corporation. As being one of the many employees, who left during a mass exodus in summer of 2018,working for a tristar hospital in southern Nashville, I would advise strongly against it.

First, HCA is a corporation whos foremost prioroty is its' stockholders. Many people wearing suits running about enforcing policy and change with little knowladelge of what drs and nurses do or the time it takes to care for patients.

Second, being such a massive corporation it is segmented. I went through 3 HR departments before getting an issue resolved. Many of said people, make a living by saying back to you what you have said, then repeting what they said, as if that solves the problem.

Second, any er that takes new graduates should raise red flags.

Third. Mandatory call shifts, due to lack of staff, you must take a 4th 12 hour shift. They Can Not Retain staff!

Fourth. Remember youre only a number. Sometimes mandates are made for best practice (like an ekg within 10 minutes of arival to the er).. however a vast majority of the patients in southern Nashville dont knwo any english. So the language line is needed for about every 3rd pt. Which skews the times dramatically. Also eldrely cant even get their shirts off in 5 minutes. Let alone get into a room, by the 9th minute mark. REMEMBER, PATIENTS ARE PEOPLE NOT CATTLE... if you dont meet the deadline dont worry you will know, because you will be posted on the wall.

Fifth, the sign on bonus and nurse residency. Just another way to try to suck nurses into working for them. If you quit before the 13th or 25th month, you will be paying in full or half of the entire sum, even though taxes where taken out of that sum.


Sixth, You will be worked to death. And you will not have the resources you need. In fact, a very good charge nurse was fired for sugesting to the ceo that they obtain functioning computers.


In conclusion if you like the idea of being treated as expendable, and going through miles of bureaucratic nonsense, or spending many nights crying this may be the job for you,

I would like to add that the staff is wonderful, all 10 of them, I dont know what keeps them there.

I have worked several places and this is not only where I choose to work, it is also where my family and I choose to be patients. This hospital has saved two of our techs lives and about to save a third. 
ICARE values- the motto that drives the work place culture for the entire hospital. Does that mean every employee in our Department/Hospital is perfect all the time?! No it is not that way anywhere. However the majority for me out weighs the bad apples.  
      Of the eight years I have been here I have watched our hospital grow so much. This is a very very busy place, it is expected that you come to work to work. Dayshift ranges from 7-8 techs in the OR and 7-8 for the rest of the areas we cover. We are growing in many areas that include but are not limited to Pediatrics, OR, ER, new CDU area, multiple Floor additions, and Cardiac. Of the current 36 employees and counting, 18 of these techs have been here anywhere between 5-25 years. With growth comes more equipment, new protocols, training new people, more areas to cover- 23 acres of hospital but who is counting lol. We have also allowed a second Rad Tech school to use us as a site for rotations.
     As far as cross training goes it was open ended for many years. It has since changed and varies dependent on the department. We do currently have someone training in Mammo now because there is a need in that modality. I did also see several techs take advantage of cross training in Computed Tomography but very few followed through with the training and took the test, which is now required. At least 4 techs that I know of however did take full advantage of training while working with us and they currently work in those areas now- CT/MRI. As with anything, you typically get out of it what you put into it. Also I am pretty sure ARRT is requiring additional school/education in most advanced modalities.

I worked here for 7 years in several of the departments. It's definitely had its ups and downs. At the end of last year, this company lost many of its good employees as a new facility opened up.  New management recently came in and the environment tanked. This company oftentimes promotes people who have little to no experience with regard to what they are going to be "managing." This creates a lot of issues for the workers. I felt like the new director did not take time to learn what the department does, just came in authoritative and implementing changes that disrupts the workflow. It seems the higher up you go in this company the less you know about the systems/processes that are in place. Many of the higher ups do NOT value employee feedback. This has been an issue the entire time I was there. (I had to reach out several times to coordinate an exit survey).It is a smaller facility; however is ran with a corporate mindset.  Everyone is replaceable here. Ironically, they do not offer any sick time or "mental health" days. In fact, if someone calls out they get an "occurrence"- after so many of these there is action taken. The pay was good starting off. However over the years, they "altered" the way pay was determined for people that is not consistent throughout the hospital. For example, in case management everyone starts off at the same rate no matter what degree/experience you have. This is different in other departments. I was PRN so I floated to different areas when needed. I left making the same amount of money as when I started. On several occasions, there were workers who came in making more money with less experience and credentials. 
It is a good place to work for experience in mental health and the co-workers are great. The flexibility is great for anyone interested in PRN work.

All in all I've loved my time at Stone Crest. It was the first hospital I had ever worked at in all of my years as a CNA.

Med-Surge at Stone Crest (or ANY hospital I would assume) is not easy. Every day is a challenge both mentally and physically. Between the surgical patients..medical..psychiatric...inmates..young..old and every one else in between, there was not ONE SINGLE DAY that went by as being the same as the next. It was great! In my years of being in this field I had spent most of them working in nursing homes...home care...the elderly in general. The constant change of people, scenery and general "craziness" of a typical Med-Surge day was (how can I say it bluntly)...awsome! I thrived in it...loved it! In the past year from June of last year to June of this year I worked 496.75 HOURS of over time I loved it so much!

I moved from Michigan to Smyrna TN in 2006. As I stated above, Stone Crest was the first hospital I had ever worked at and everyone I worked with became my family. The whole Stone Crest environment felt like my home away from home.

Management-wise....well, what I've seen through the years is that there isn't a manager alive that can make EVERYONE happy. It's a tough job and my hats off to any manager, because if the employees are not happy...if a facility has a high turn around...if patient satisfaction is at a low...everyone looks at the "Manager". Kudos to the ones at Stone Crest who have come in and truly cared...and "good luck" to the ones (you know who you are) who were politely escorted out.

The most enjoyable part of my job at Stone Crest? Well it's been the most enjoyable part of my job ANYWHERE I've worked...it's been after taking care of someone and hearing "thank you so much for helping me.".....I just LOVE that!

We opened a brand new hospital. We had no policy and procedures.  I was hired, I thought, to be a charge nurse in the ICU,  I was asked to start work full time 3 months before the hospital actually opened.  I worked with state and federal representatives to meet all regulations.  I was responsible for stocking every single piece of equipment to be stored in our inventory room.  The previously hired Critical Care Director had simply copied another Tristar hospital approximately the size of StoneCrest without taking into consideration the different equipment we would have.  All delivered inventory had to be destroyed and totally replaced.  I went to Summit, where I had come from, to copy the item numbers of all the equipment to be used for any and all procedures that might be done in an ICU.  I served, 3 times, as the interim Critical Care Director, substituted as house supervisor on weekend days it was needed, chaired 3 committees, served as charge nurse in the ICU and the cath lab, entered all payroll information for all staff in the ICU and the cath lab, worked with vendors in the cath lab to be sure we had proper stock in case of an emergency, was on call 24/7 for a one team cath lab with only 48 hours per month off of call.  I liked the hospital but was overwhelmed and so very tired.  When I would tell the management that some responsibilities had to be taken from me, it never happened.

A bustling, functional, and sought-after Hospital in Nashville, TN. The ICU  alone can get a total of 10 admissions in 12 hrs. A typical day at work is no lunch break for most of the time. An ICU nurse can get 3 patients due to staffing issues like most hospitals do, excluding Vanderbilt Hospitals.

What I learned was, how to safely render nursing care with multiple patients under my care. Patience, hard work,  diligence, and continuous aspirations for perfection. 
Management is top-notch! They are the kindest and the most appreciative leaders. The Intensivists/Nurse Practitioners are very accommodating, non-judgmental, and in fact, very helpful as nurses themselves at the patient's bedside.

The hardest part of the job is having to deal with arrogant, all-knowing, and seemingly racist workmates.

The most enjoyable part of the job is having to meet and take care of very much appreciative patients and their families. 

I WORKED ON THIS UNIT FOR 10 YEARS AND I LEARNED A LOT AND MET MANY AMAZING PEOPLE. I HAD GREAT SUPERVISORS AND CO WORKERS. I SAW TECHNOLOGY GROW AND EMPOWER US IN THE MEDICAL FIELD TO TAKE THE VERY BEST CARE OF OUR PATIENTS. THE BEST PART OF MY JOB WAS SEEING THE PATIENTS RECOVER FROM SURGERY, GET GOOD RESULTS FROM TESTS AND JUST TO BE ABLE TO GET TO KNOW THEM. THIS WAS BASICALLY HOW IT WAS NINE OF THE YEARS THAT I WAS THERE. THEN MANY CHANGES CAME TO OUR UNIT. I AM NOT AFRAID OF CHANGE, BUT THEY CAME TO OUR UNIT SO FAST, AT TIMES IT WAS OVERWHELMING. I FELT LIKE I WAS BEING "RUSHED " TO DO PATIENT CARE BECAUSE OF THE HUGE AMOUNT OF DOCUMENTATION. MOST OF IT REPETITIVE. I TRIED TO DO THE BEST I COULD. THINGS IM SURE WILL IMPROVE WITH COMMITTEES, SUGGESTIONS AND MAINLY LISTENING TO THE NURSES BEFORE CHANGES THAT AFFECT PATIENT CARE ARE MADE. IN SUMMARY, THE HOSPITAL WANTS ALL RN STAFFING BY 2014. I AM VERY PROUD TO BE AN LPN AND WANT TO CONTINUE MY NURSING CAREER WHERE LPNS ARE A PART OF THE TEAM AND PLACE PATIENT CARE AT ITS HIGHEST STANDARD. HENDERSONVILLE MEDICAL CENTER IS A GOOD PLACE TO WORK, BUT BECAUSE OF THE NEW HEALTHCARE ACT AND HOW REIMBURSEMENTS WILL AFFECT THEIR BUSINESS, THE CHANGES WILL CONTINUE. I AM THANKFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE PART OF AN AWESOME NURSING STAFF AND I WISH THIS FACILITY THE BEST.

I felt as if I had a target on my back the day I stepped foot in the pharmacy. Having never worked in a hospital setting, I expected to make some mistakes, however, after a while I began to realize that the pharmacy director seemed to be attempting to create a paper trail on me to have an excuse for termination.  For example I was written up for tardiness, another team member would be late multiple times and he never received disciplinary action. Another example of a simple mistake that resulted in disciplinary action was as simple as me labeling an item wrong. Which was caught by a pharmacist, because it is their job to verify all things that leave the pharmacy. After simply switching the label I received another write up while, once again other team members  received a less serious consequence to similar situations.  If that wasn’t enough, I suffered a serious family loss. After my son passed away I returned back to work after some time and was written up the day I returned. Call it bad timing but I knew they’d saved documents in an attempt to move me closer to termination. This is the only job I’ve had to date that didn’t recognize my hard work, dedication and willingness to learn.

HCA as a whole is an excellent company to work for. I always enjoyed the little things that the hospital and upper management would do to make sure that each employee knows that they are valued and appreciated such as ice cream socials, luncheons, the TriStar Treasures program, etc. The radiology department has a great team environment and excellent communication among staff. Most equipment is newer and top of the line which makes the technology that much more fun and efficient. Department manager was always available to staff and made staff feel appreciated. Lead tech wasn't afraid to jump in and help when neccessary and would do her best to help accommodate staff when time off was needed, even if it was short notice. Radiologists, Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant in radiology dept. were a dream to work with. PRN employees were able to get plenty of hours. Full-time employees were patient to teach the ropes to the newer technologists or PRN's who didn't deal with some things on a daily basis. I would highly recommend working here.

When I worked at Centennial Medical Center I really liked the people that I worked with when I first started there I looked up patients in Meditech to make sure they only had one Medical Record Number and if they had more than one I had to combine the charts and merge in the computer. I really enjoyed getting up every day and going to work and all of management was good to me. I think the hardest part of the job is when I had to leave Centennial and move to HSC off of Harding Place once they decided that going paperless was the best thing to do It was still HCA we all moved to this new location and prepped,scanned and Indexed charts for all the HCA hospitals in the Nashville and Surrounding Areas once I got to this location I worked there from November 2008 and I was let go in February of 2010. I would really like to work back in Medical Records that was the best Job that I had.
