As I stated before the morale is extremely low at Trident Regional Medical Center. Management is unconcerned about the mental and physical health of employees. We are in a pandemic and the conditions are already stressful and they add to the level of stress. They care more about the monetary benefits for the hospital then they do for the patients. Patients needs and cries for help mostly are ignored.

The appreciation for hard workers is almost non-existent. There were no real incentives and rewards given to employees for being on the front line of the pandemic. Our reward was a hot dog or a hamburger with chips and a small soda. Which utterly showed their lack of appreciation.  They need a real concept of understanding as to why hospitals exist. We should be about the care and concern for the patients and the cohesiveness of management and employees to work together to provide the best care for the patients.



Strong hands on management style from the top down. Bi-annual employee survey taken seriously by management, and responded to in a timely fashion.  Changes usually implemented by the 2nd fiscal quarter.
Benefits were the only lacking issue, and mainly with timely reimbursement for qualified procedures.  I was and a few of my co-workers experienced problems with getting insurances to cover procedures or therapy, they said was covered  but then be denied.
Typical day at work is a half an hour to get report of your patient assignment.  An average hour and a half  to two hours to complete your patient rounds and four patient rounds to do in a 12 hour shift.  The extra time is typically used covering outpatients, ER calls, patient transportation, nonstandard or emergent procedures, patient and family education, rounding with the physicians, changing orders, working out treatment plans with staff and physicians.

Hardest part of the job is the increasing charting and administrative duties on the computer.
Most enjoyable part is the patient and family interaction.

This hospital doesn't have the best rap but I can say I have enjoyed working here and have learned alot. I have great coworkers and some bad apples. The teamwork between the techs is great. The nurses and techs need some improvement on working together. We work 12 hour shifts but you are so busy all day that it feels like 8 hours. I would recommend working here and gaining the experience but I don't see myself staying here long term. It has a high turnover rate bc the job is hard and you are getting labs, blood sugars, changing people, and running around all day. Of course you do have your slower days here and there. I have worked with alot of different kinds of patients with different illness to mental issues to alcohol and drug withdrawal. You learn alot and it's a great job but the floor I work on is not one I could stay on long term for years bc you get worn out.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Co-workers are the only reason to work here. Patient load is heavy.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Very high acuity patients on all the med-surg floors. As full time staff getting floated at least once a week while travel and prn staff stay on your home unit.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Nurse manager does not know how to access policy manual and staff nurses do not either. You are told "oh this is how you do it". Policy and Procedure would be nice to review before doing a task. Expected to clock out for lunch and continue to work while clocked out.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
High acuity patients, rapid discharges with almost immediate admissions to take discharged patients place. Charge nurse not able to help due to their work load. Working 13 to 14 hours to complete assigned duties for each patient. That includes working through lunch-but remember to clock out for that 30 minutes while continuing to work.

The only reason I gave Trident two stars and not one was my amazing co-workers. The staff at Trident are, for the most part, compassionate, hard-working people who truly care about their patients. However, they are also over-worked, stressed, and often miserable. I did not find many, if any, who actually enjoyed their jobs. Management is ineffective and therefore basically nonexistent, from lower to upper level. The nurses and techs would get blamed for problems caused by mismanagement, unsafe patient ratios, and poor working conditions. Patient care is, in my opinion, lacking for many reasons. However a main reason was some of the doctors not seeming to care to take the time to actually check on their patients while bullying the nurses who do care and express their concerns. No wonder we were constantly understaffed. I should have left sooner and saved myself the heartache.

Worked on a med-surg floor for 2 years after signing a contract for the sign on bonus. My time at this for-profit hospital has been the most challenging 2 years of my career. HCA cares more about profit than patient care or staff well-being. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:7. I started each shift feeling like I was set up to fail. Constantly rushing, charging late, skipping breaks and praying my license was safe each shift.  We’re frequently asked to do more work with less resources. They’ll send home PCTs, sitters and call off nurses to keep the ratios high. Then claim, “we’re working on it” when concerns of unsafe ratios are voiced. Management’s main concern is how many discharges we can push out the door each shift, even if it’s unsafe. There are good people who work here, but the burn out and stress from pushing against a for-profit system isn’t worth it. Don’t let the big sign on bonus trick you. If you're looking to actually practice safe, ethical nursing, look elsewhere. This is not the place.

TMC is a 396 bed hospital with a 27 bed emergency department. Patient populations range from geriatric to pediatric. We are a certified stroke center with tele-neurology, a certified chest pain center with an interventional cath lab. TMC has recently become a Level 2 trauma center with 2 trauma bays located in the emergency department. Average ER visits per day is 184 with an annual volume of 61,000 patients. The most difficult part of managing the ER is the seeing the increased patient volume (14% over last year) with the additional trauma patients in a space that is relatively small. Plans for an expansion are underway, however, that never seems to go as quickly as we would like! My co-workers in the ER are some of the most talented, professional and compassionate people that I have ever met. They give uncompromising patient care and I would be happy and proud to have them care for me or one of my family members.

They would not let you advance unless you knew somebody or you were one of the friends. They always had their favorites even though they would tell you that they treated everybody the same. The managers and supervisors would always bend the rules for others but not for the ones that they like and trying to get vacation approved was puling teeth. I did enjoy working the my fellow workers they were always a joy to work with. I also enjoyed helping the patients that came in, it made me felt I was doing good when the patient would leave with a smile on their face. The hardest part about the job was at times I would have sent the patients away because of insufficient funds, it reminded me that it was a  business first and caring hospital  second or third.

I started here as a New Nurse. This hospital is horrible!!!! I have seen so many amazing nurses quit. The management does NOT care about their staff and most of all the safety of the patients and staff. Working here, I felt like my license was a risk. Nurses are being floated since some floors are closed due to remodeling. No float pay. I went to work stressed not sure where they were going to float me. Being a new nurse I did not feel ready to float. The managers usually hide behind their desk, and will (Only) hunt you down to clock out for lunch.
I have witness so many unsafe situations, and this hospital is always understaffed. I feel so bad for the patients that go to this hospital. Nurses are pressured to hurry to pass meds rather than actually caring for patients. This hospital doesn’t let you breathe, and the amazing techs I have worked with are also burned down and unappreciated. 

This was a very "cliquey" environment, which was actually encouraged by management. There were those of us who would work as hard as we could, and others who would sit chatting in the nurses' station while we toiled away. They had a very hard time keeping people - the nurses were overburdened with unsafe patient ratios, making even more work for the techs. If management decided they didn't like you for whatever reason, you could forget promotions or shift adjustments. The work itself, while rewarding, was exhausting. It was also frustrating to be running from room to room and see that someone who should be helping was off taking a break, when you could barely stop to use the restroom. Management was fully aware, but since the perpetrators were on their "favorites" list, nothing was ever done. I got out of healthcare entirely because of TMCER.
