Trinity Health At Home

Please don’t confuse Trinity Health at a Home with the real Trinity Health Organization! Trinity Health at Home is the ugly red headed stepsister of Trinity Health Org. They don’t follow the mission statement and poorly represent this awesome organization.

There is no work life balance. If you are a skilled home care nurse...stay away. They can’t keep staff, and the services they claim to offer in order to get the referral  (especially social work or Home health aid) they are unable to provide due to staffing which is misleading to both patient and referral source. 

Patients are angry at you because their needs can’t be met due to staffing...but it gets old getting yelled at over things out of yourself control 7 times per day/5 days per week. 

Telehealth monitoring units are the nurses responsibility to pick up from office or drop off to fedex facilities. And you have to keep them in your car or home. They don’t reimburse you for this mileage. 

Nurses are told to LIE to Medicare patients stating Telehealth is required to be in the home and does not allow the patient to refuse even if they don’t need it.  Meanwhile patients with commercial/Medicaid can’t get it even if they really could benefit from it. If the nurse doesn’t push the product...we get talked to by management. Telehealth is a great tool to for those who need it...unfortunately Trinity Health at home forces it on Medicare patients only because they can bill for it. They own these units so if it were truly a service provided to Trinity Health at home patients...any patient that qualifies clinically should be offered the product. Money grabs in healthcare really frustrate me. 

You will be driving a unreasonable number of miles daily (100+)You will easily drive 30-40 minutes between each patient. They have no concept of distance in this office. Of course I’m home Health we expect to drive a lot but 100+ miles should be the exception not the norm. 

They want you to text, talk on the phone, and respond to messages within 30 minutes. I had the new nurse educator attempt to address me for making the office case manager wait too long for a response to a text message....I was in the middle of a difficult wound vac with a crying patient...but sure you’re request for a ride along should take priority!  They forget that unlike them.....field nurses are focused on hands on patient care.

They refuse to service Detroit due safety but have no problem sending nurses to unsafe rural areas. I refused to return to a patients home after being yelled at multiple times by the patients husband. I made the manager aware multiple times. When I finally refused to go back I was told that “I didn’t have the luxury to choose who I can see”. When she finally realized I was seriously not going back she offered me a class on how to deal with difficult patients. Sorry....there’s a difference between therapeutic communication and threatening behavior. Keep your training. Personal safety is priority. 

Management doesn’t really listen. They only care about covering visits. They only care about the facade of good patient care. They want you to sacrifice you’re personal time and life to meet patient needs. You will burn out here....if you notice they are always hiring. That’s why. 

That being said...your coworkers in the field are great and are very supportive of everything.

Leave home by 8:00am, visit 10 to 12 locations (find 3/4 contacts in each) for referrals
Visit orthopedic surgical patients at hospital 4 days a week post surgery, prior to discharge home to arrange home health services
All meetings, weekly 1on1 from car, emails managed from car
Visit all hospitals, SNFs, PCPs, Orthopedic groups in 3 county area
My highly  experienced team mate was a great mentor who trained me, I learned my product offering and how to best support patients needing care. My manager was not reliable for accurate information or regarding Trinity processes. Mentor resigned shortly after my start due to dissatisfaction with manager.
The workplace culture is good but moral is low due to many long term, seasoned clinical managers and staff leaving in the past couple years
The hardest part of the job is the manager who is hyper critical, very demeaning, would talk down to you, would demand unrealistic expectations, last minute projects that would take all of part of your day and scrutinize every visit you did during the work week. Manager will remove all referrals that come in from territory if they are not in your CRM that same month, expect to fall short for bonus or commission often, due to the manager
Expect to work nights and weekends to a keep up with the reporting since you will be driving all day long, taking calls while driving and at night
Be prepared to be unappreciated, scrutinized and confused by the sales manager who has a reputation for driving people out if you don't follow her instructions or if you question strategies used decades ago to earn business.
Multiple experienced account executives resigned during my time or were targeting by manager and fired.
If you have thick skin, can take fake encouragement disguised as support, sit through meetings where everyone pretends the division is amazing...this is your place



Trinity Health At Home has all of the benefits of a very large system (Trinity Health is 2nd largest Catholic healthcare org in the country) yet it is very community focused. It feels more like a startup organization in a good way. There's a lot of energy and excitement. I'm based at the Service Center (headquarters). We are doing things differently - making home care and hospice the future of healthcare with advanced technology and the best of the best clinical expertise.Every day, I think about the patients and their families who are so grateful that with our care, the patient can stay where he/she wants to be: at home. It's fast paced environment, for sure, but that makes it so exciting. I am so proud to contribute to the Mission. It's a business and there's need to thrive but really, the focus is on the patient. What we're doing to help patients stay at home makes me so thrilled to be part of it all. It really is changing healthcare for the better for patients. 

After spending my career in corporate America, it was so refreshing to join this org. I have some of the most inspiring, motivated people around me and across the country. Hardest part of the job is getting everything done I need to get done. There's a lot to do!  

Full disclosure - I'm in marketing for Trinity Health At Home but I write from the heart:

Absent of executive leadership while middle managers not empowered enough to help when needed most,   

Poor referral and intake management, 

Slow to change inefficiencies,  

Habitually asking employees to "do more with less" as if it's somehow honorable, 

 3 years of increasing productivity requirements without commensurate improvements in pay -- required meetings not fully accounted as part of compensated time 

Decreased point values of most time -consuming visit types which makes productivity goals more challenging to meet,

Computing and documenting resources 2nd rate and slow with Poor IT support, 

Generating burnout for therapists while adding more care extenders/ assistants,  

Frequent weekend assignments expected on top of fully productive weeks

Depressing situation as many have seen transformation away from what was once a very desirable workplace

At a different company. Trinty Home Care and Hospice in Oakbrook is a terrible company. Turnover is high, office workers that manage and HR are some of the worse people you will ever meet. They dismiss people who are truthful about work-life conditions and they literally threaten employees who really need their jobs to take care of loved ones. In a society were most people are trying to do their best to provide for their families, Trinty in Oakbrook, they are affiliated with Loyola Hospital in Maywood, yes the one that had Cornbread and Greens as a gesture of kindness during African American History Month, and the ER will have you there almost 9 hours, are a typical business where the bottom line is money. The doctors in the company leave monthly due to the poor management and the reputation that Loyola/Trinity Home Care and Hospice-based in Oakbrook, IL, has in the community and with pay sources. There are many options for those wanting to be in Home Care and Hospice. Simply you will be paid more at almost all companies with fewer caseloads and Management that are actually there to help you take care of your patients. If you want to make more money, do not work here. If you enjoy spending time with your partner and kids, do not work here. Do not work here.

The problem with Trinity Health At Home is the management. The supervisors have no leadership experience, they are rude and condescending. They are promoted based on seniority instead of skill. The Managers know nothing about the job and rely on the staff to handle situations outside of their job scope. Communication to other departments within the organization is terrible. The employees are the only reason the company is staying afloat yet the pay and treatment is horrible. Work is piled on you daily and rules change daily without warning. You are expected to be overworked, stressed out and still be productive. People get accused before the supervisors properly investigate a claim. Don’t even think about career advancement. There is no room for growth. People either leave quickly or they stay for years being unhappy and miserable and taking it out on the newer employees or complain constantly. Mostly everyone hates their job at THAH. The CEO is really nice and kind… everyone under him… HORRIBLE!

Send far out of your  territory consistently vs sometimes. In my interview, told this company does not do this .
Loyola vs Trinity; Trinity is the company not Loyola. BIG difference!!!
Manger doesn’t follow up consistently on concerns.
Too many reports to show how good or bad a employee in meeting sales expectation 
Priority patients vs Non priority to be seen for this day.
This company stresses the labor workforce because there is a shortage of clinicians, stating what’s not fair to patients when not covered. It is not the responsibility of clinicians to have adequate staffing for patients.
High turnover.
Hostile documentation expectations, all documentation needs to completed by midnight.




Worked there a long time. Turn over has been ridiculous since the current director has been promoted over and over. Managers are replaced every couple of years because they receive little to no training. No support for field staff. Had a bonus for driving over 80 miles a day taken away so the company can make more money. No oversight of intake coordinators or schedulers who will send staff to 3 different counties in the same day. When you ask about things that don't make sense, you are labeled a trouble maker. I personally feel that the mentality has changed to "shut up and do as you're told." Patient care doesn't count. Only numbers, which by the way, has been pretty stable in the toilet for a number of years. Staff don't complain because most have before and nothing ever gets done about anything. Highly DO NOT recommend until things change.

When I started at this company, the nurses were fairly happy and I could see myself staying for a long time. By the time I left, no one was happy, half the staff had left, and they were trying to get the union in to help. 
Over 18 months, most of the management was rearranged or left and never replaced, leaving the rest over worked and unwilling to help the staff. The pay went from hourly to salary, and of course the minimum number of visits they expected you to see per day became very unreasonable. 
The final straw, territories were completely rearranged, hours changed, we had to interview for our own jobs, and everyone was told that they would have to obtain BSN, even if they had been with the company for 25-30 years and were not far from retirement.
When you are working 10 hours a day on the road and then charting 2+ hours a night at home, going back to school seems pretty much like the last thing you should be attempting.

 I have been with the company for over 10 years and have been very fortunate to have had numerous growth opportunities during my time here.  

I work with people from all different roles and departments across Trinity Health at Home including colleagues, managers, directors and senior leadership and I find the people here to be kind, hardworking and supportive. I feel fully supported in my role. Like any job, it is what you make of it. Healthcare itself has many challenges and is constantly changing so, it helps to be flexible. If you are someone who has a positive attitude, and are willing to learn, this is a great place for you.
