Turning Point Behavioral Health Care Center

Working here has been one of the most toxic experiences I’ve ever had. The management is horrific and fosters a hostile environment through microaggressions, a lack of appreciation, and blatant favoritism. They refuse to hire or promote from within, leaving staff demoralized and stuck with no room for growth.

There is absolutely no guidance or proper supervision. Both staff and clients suffer as a result, and any attempt to address concerns is met with gaslighting and empty promises. Management pretends to care but never makes meaningful changes.

PTO requests are almost never approved, while direct management enjoys regular vacations—sometimes as often as once a month. Interaction with management is rare, but they still manage to micromanage every detail of your day, even monitoring staff via cameras.

You’re constantly forced to fight for basic rights like accurate paychecks and benefits. Raises and bonuses are nonexistent unless you’ve been here for over five years. There is a union, which is helpful in theory, but they are limited in what they can address.

The only positive is that the work itself is meaningful, but the toxic environment makes it impossible to enjoy or succeed.

If you’re considering working here, don’t. You will regret it. Save yourself the stress and frustration. Do not come here—you will suffer.

Worst job I have ever had, and I have worked in some awful places. Doing direct service work with clients is great, however the management at this organization made it an abysmal experience.  Individuals doing direct service work aka your immediate coworkers are likely to be the best sources of support. Management has a facade that they care about the clients however have made various statements suggesting otherwise, especially when it comes to providing quality care to clients who are tired of working with new providers every 1-2 years. Employees consistently refer to the agency as a "dumpster fire." 
Administration also engaged in multiple forms of union retaliation. All the aspects of a toxic work environment can be found here.
I would not recommend this organization to anyone.

The management at this place is horrific and creates a toxic work environment. There is no guidance or supervision, and the staff and clients suffer because of it. If you try and address any issues, you will be gaslit and given fake concern about the issues when nothing changes. 

Your PTO is rarely approved while management takes regular vacations. You will rarely see or interact with management even though they will make your life miserable. They will micromanaging your time and literally use cameras to monitor you. You will have to monitor your paychecks and benefits as the bare minimum has to be fought for tooth and nail. You will never get a raise or christmas bonus unless you work here for 5+ years. There is a union which is cool but there's little they can do to address these issues. The work itself is meaningful.

Do not come here!!! You will suffer.

Working at Turning Point has been quite the experience, and I mean that in the most positive way possible. It was easily the busiest place I worked in, but at the same time the most rewarding. It provided me the opportunity to witness and support my co-workers as they went about their day finding ways to help people who for whatever reason, be it environmental, circumstantial or congenital, were in need of the life saving work a community mental health facility provides. The work environment, while at times intense (due to the nature of our work), was very much like that of a family type environment. I thoroughly enjoyed working and learning from my co-workers.

I have worked for 5 years at Turning Point as a Therapist and Clinical Supervisor.  I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients providing individual, and group therapy services, which has helped me tremendously in becoming a more well rounded and well versed clinician.  Work-life balance is great and schedules are flexible.  Training and supervision, as well as workshops provided are high quality and provide a unique opportunity to learn and grow.  Supervisors and management care about employees and provide a family atmosphere with support and opportunities to advance within the agency.  Couldn't have had a better experience!

The work itself was meaningful. I enjoyed working with the agency's clientele. Unfortunately, the management of the agency made it a toxic environment. The administration appeared to be more focused on paying themselves good salaries than on treating its employees with respect. In fact, the administration actively demeaned our work and repeatedly made changes that made our work less effective. I loved my coworkers but watching their morales being beaten down by constant mistreatment was very upsetting. 

Admin staff are in over their heads, no one knows what they’re doing, there’s a union in place that only advocates for one program,  the entire organization is a complete dumpster fire. No accountability, no standardized training for new staff, HR doesn’t know what they’re doing, low pay for clinicians, EMR is ancient and outdated, no system in place for tracking hours worked/vacation/sick time (you might get an email with your amounts every other month), staff openly gossip about each other. 

I currently work at Turning Point. I want to start by saying that if you're a recent college grad. this is a great place for you. In comparison to most of the places in the mental health field, this place is like night and day. The staff care about the people they serve and (at least the people I work with) have each others' backs.  They are definitely understaffed. Training is pretty intense but I learned a lot. The Living Room program is awesome and great experience. 

I loved the work and the clients, but management was not consistent or fair with enforcing expectations of staff. In instances where coworkers were bullying others, management were unresponsive to requests to handle the situation. Also, the staff are only paid as well as they are because of the union.

After I left there, I was sorry I had gone.  What's best is the nature of the work, I miss it.

Shortly before I left, management started providing paid benefits to part-timers who worked 10 hours per week or more.  I don't remember the details.
