Turning Point of Central California, Inc.

Arriving to assist in the culinary atmosphere to keep all meals delivered on time.  There would be perishable deliveries awaiting to be warehoused in a shared hallway with office staff members.  All in stock had to be rotated and dated before new inventory could be stored.  Opportunity to learn how to prepare foods from a highly experienced food director that had an extensive background in cooking for the Pacific railways.  The management was a team occupied effort of program direction and rules as well as inmate staff and department of correction members under the direction of a Lieutenant.  My co-workers were a blend of outside hired free cooks and in house substance addicted incarcerated low level offender inmates.  The hardest part of the job was training the male population how to learn quickly and stay on time with all the amounts of menu items that needed to be prepared for delivery around the Fresno community.  The more enjoyable part of the job was seeing inmate help feel proud of how well they had achieved a cooking skill or to amend one in a field that was at first very new for them.  Most staff never had any prior job skills in culinary duties.  Our food service director was always teaching us various details about food and how best to keep them from losing quality before mealtimes.

Turning Point is a great place to work if you’re passionate about helping others. The best part is being surrounded by people who genuinely care, not just about the clients we serve, but about their coworkers too. There’s a real sense of purpose here, and it’s inspiring to be part of a team that’s making a difference in the community every day.

The organization has a solid structure in place to support its programs, which makes it easier to focus on the work that really matters. There’s also a ton of room for growth and learning. If you put in the effort, there are plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and move up.

Like any job, it’s what you make of it. There are challenges, of course, but the work is meaningful, and the impact we make is worth it. I love knowing that what I do every day helps people in need. If you’re looking for a job where you can grow, learn, and be part of something bigger, I’d definitely recommend Turning Point!

My experience at Turning Point was extremely disappointing. There was no proper training, and favoritism was rampant throughout the organization. The staff turnover rate was alarmingly high, and employees were regularly expected to take on responsibilities outside of their job description—usually to cover for favored staff who couldn’t handle their own duties.

Management showed little to no genuine interest in supporting their employees. Gossip, lies, and a complete lack of accountability were common, especially among leadership. The only positive aspect was working with the men in the program, who unfortunately have to endure many of the same toxic dynamics because of power-tripping staff.

It’s disheartening to see a place that should be about rehabilitation and support run so poorly. If this program were led by ethical, passionate professionals who truly cared, both staff and participants would thrive. Sadly, that’s not the case here. If you’re a professional with integrity, I strongly advise staying far away from this place.

I had an entry job for one and half years with Turning Point. One of the things I am most grateful was the training provided that helped me understand the clientele we served. I think this really allowed me to gain experience working in mental health. While there was a few things that I am grateful for, I am disappointed in how management within the RMH handle internal issues. The structure of operations within the company was inadequate, my direct supervisor did an impressive job of pretending to care about me when i was dealing with my co worker who harassed me on the daily, especially when there wasn't a supervisor around. TPOCC lacks the ability to handle issues appropriately and with confidentiality. This company only cares about the stringent medi-cal documentation and the money that will be brought to the program, they don't care about you, the employee. Their benefits may be great, but it doesn't not compensate for the stress you will endure at work, the intensity of it, or so forth. Be mindful if you receive a job offer, that they only care of the work you do here, not for the what you bring to the company. They'll replace ASAP.

Crooked and shady is the name of the game for this company. Oh, its mission is wonderful and working with the kids is the best. Watching them grow, become equipped with tools you teach them, and forming rapports is amazing. But actual culture in the homes? You're taught to use positive reinforcement and to teach coping skills but none of that is actually used. The home is run like a boot camp, with kids being told to be quiet at all times and not be engaged by their staff. And when a kid expresses how this is affecting them, or they have behaviors due to neglect then they are punished for it. Kids are also treated differently based on their socioeconomic background or how easy it is to manipulate their guardians. The company is ultimately too political for its own good and doesn't operate like a therapy house, its run like a juvenille detention facility for kids with special needs.

Despite extensive warnings and complaints from employees that conditions were becoming unbearable, the corporate leaders did practically nothing to assist us.

The lack of management training made it nearly impossible for regular staff to perform their duties properly and efficiently. 

Burnout in the care field is an incredibly real, and potentially very serious problem. Turning Point knows that their staff is struggling hard and has done very little, if anything, to provide the necessary supports for their staff. By extension, this means that the services provided to their clients suffers.

I understand that the corporate aspect of this company has a job to do as well, but unfortunately, we are here to serve individuals that need us. Without the proper support for staff, that task becomes nearly impossible to accomplish.

Family dynamic is spoke about but sadly not shown with action. Advancing is always possible but the support to be successful is lacking. They push the training concept but again the importance of the action behind the training is a failure. The training is just to satisfy the entity through which their license is provided. The management is cliquey, and very unapologetic about it. Whenever you reach out to Superiors for help, they end up making you feel like an inch tall. Making you question why you were promoted in the first place. You'll make great money but at a cost to your mental health. If you can't advocate for your individuals, why go into the business? 

It was nice building rapport with the clients and helping them out with their daily needs. However, when I worked here, a client damaged my car on the property trying to break into it and management did not reimburse me, even though it was caught on camera. Other workers caused a hostile work environment. High turnover rate. A lot of miscommunications and inconsistencies. I did not feel safe working at the shelter I was at, and there was no security on site. It didn't help that management is not supportive either even though the situation has been brought up multiple times

Assess and process new clients (inmates), provide case managements, and due to every client having their own needs an every case being different I would learn something new every day. At the work place I use computers, PA system, radios, fax, copier, ans scanner machines. I also have management experience as I am in charge of providing assistance to the caseworkers and oversee all case loads therefore having a good and close relationships with my co-workers it's essential. The hardest part of my job is not knowing what the next day will offer, however this at the same time is the most enjoyable part as it is not routinely job.

When I did my internship at turning pint, I have learned how to supervised Federal inmates/residents. I aslo learned how to use breathalyzered test om residents who were returning from the facility.
I have an experience head counting residents and know how to  room searched I know how to pat-down search on inmates. when i as at tunining point, I recorded all the findings on the computer and signed adn signature into the specific binders. I aslo answered phone calls.
The hardest part of any jobs are to stay alert at all times because we get tired sometimes when we dont have enough sleep. The most enjoyable part of the job is to learned people's names and to challenge myself and dont know what to expect.
