UCF Lake Nona Hospital

I am impressed with how involved leadership is at this hospital.  The CEO often drops by to attend daily huddles.  There is the best sense of teamwork across individual departments compared to anywhere else I've worked.  The surgery department does 2 daily huddles that include nurses, surgery techs, scheduling staff, and sterile processors.  I've been in places where each discipline kept to itself, and often a bit of rivalry and blame happened between them.  Here, everyone is part of the Surgery Team and knows what is scheduled, possible issues, and can ask any questions. It was nice to see how my work impacts the process and the common goal of successful surgeries.  

I found the workplace culture amazing, with regular meetings to go over successes and things that need attention.  They actually give time to complete the assigned training. The building is very new and an innovation hub that HCA uses to try out new technology.  Appreciated that the hospital provided clean, daily scrubs.

The hardest part of the job was the shortness of the breaks and the difficulty in timing them to coincide with the times the cafeteria was open (I found the food there much better than most hospitals I've eaten at). 

There is a clear and persistent pattern of favoritism in which certain employees are consistently given preferential treatment, opportunities, and accommodations that are not equally extended to others. This inequity has created a divisive environment where fairness and merit appear to be disregarded. Policies and expectations are not being applied consistently, leading to confusion, resentment, and a breakdown in trust. Additionally, the workplace has been saturated with ongoing gossip and unprofessional conduct. Conversations that should remain confidential or work-related are frequently discussed openly, contributing to a culture of disrespect and tension. This behavior undermines teamwork and fosters an environment where employees feel scrutinized and unsupported. Equally concerning is the selective approach to accommodations. While some employees are granted flexibility and consideration, others with similar or legitimate needs are dismissed or overlooked without explanation. This inconsistency raises serious concerns about fairness, compliance, and respect for all staff members. Leading to a very hostile work environment. Do not apply here as you will be treated poorly and needs neglected. 

Nurses, BE AWARE. A safe nurse-patient ratio is NOT offered. There is no transport so you will have to do all your patient transport and there is a lack of housekeeping staff, so on top of doing nursing care with unsafe ratios, you are also expected to do the transport for your patients and take the trash out of your room, change trash bags and clean between patients. Management will never have your back. Get ready to have directors and nursing managers that don't even speak to you. You can even say "Good morning" or "Good afternoon" and they will never answer back but suddenly when corporate is "in house" they want to have a friendly conversation with you and ask you about your day. Most of the time there is only one security guard for the whole hospital which is unsafe. In conclusion, not a recommended place to work. Is very corporate-driven and as a nurse, your only chance at advancing your career is playing politics and corporate games, the compensation for your job is not fair, there is a lack of security on site and the nurse-patient ratio is very unsafe most of the time. Stay away from this place!

I had the pleasure of working at this hospital and must say, the work culture was truly amazing. Most of the staff were incredibly supportive & team oriented. The director was unlike anyone I've ever work for; very supportive & inspirational. She helped me to rebuild my "C" triangle (confidence, competence, character) and taught me to guard like my nursing license.  Overall, I had a great experience during my time there but unfortunately the pay just wasn't very competitive & there were no incentives for obtaining a higher level of degree or certifications. I felt like the hospital benefited from my hard work after I had earned my BSN degree, all I received was a "congratulations" which was great but it doesn't help pay the bills.

Beautiful facility, however, lacks important things. EVERYONE here is super miserable. All directors think they are some type of royalty. You will be invisible here. Very unfriendly coworkers,  you will never be listened. Don't try to even voice your opinions to administration because they wont care. They sweep all there problems under a rug. You would think these people with great degrees would have some type of simple manners. Stay to yourself, trust no one, and you will be ok. 

The hospital is very new and already has plans on expanding which is fantastic if you wish to stay and advance your career. They equip you with the newest technology which is cool to test out. It’s getting busier every month but it’s still pretty manageable work and everyone generally has a good motivated attitude to work. Management always ensured I got a break and OT is very generous. It was a great facility to work for overall.

Miserable environment to work in. Cafeteria closed midday, even when it's open the food is terrible. No gift shop. Numerous safety issues that are never corrected. Most workers there look as though they hate being alive. Anyone can walk in with a gun & get away with it. There's no security check detector for that. Mental patients have been known to loiter around the lounge area then escorted out while making threats but keep returning, Very unsafe.

If I can pick a place as wonderful and beautiful to work, UCF Lake Nona Hospital will always be. The people are wonderful, we have a strong sense of purpose and we work so well together.

This hospital provides excellent care in a clean, organized, and welcoming environment. The staff is professional, compassionate, and attentive, making patients feel comfortable and well cared for. There is a clear focus on teamwork and quality service. I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone seeking reliable healthcare.

Management is horrible. No accountability. They all make promises based off lies and when asked about it, they blame the “higher ups” saying there’s nothing more they can do. We are drowning every day and losing staff left and right. Do yourself a favor and don’t come here. The pay is awful and it’s not worth risking your license.
