There was always more work than you could possibly accomplish, and sometimes it was difficult to prioritize many conflicting needs.  This is true for any growing company, and of course everyone thinks their part of any project is the most important; that is just human nature.  Yes, the pharmaceutical business is a business, driven by the dollar; but safety and quality were not sacrificed as I have seen in other older and larger companies.  I found the management generally helpful.  I often worked with multiple departments and my suggestions were taken under consideration.  My pay was typical, but the local cost of living is lower than most places.  Balancing the conflicting priorities was the hardest part of the job, and achieving goals was difficult and stressful.  The most enjoyable part of the job was working with friendly, helpful people and being able to stretch to my potential as a scientist.  I went home at night tired, but felt I had been part of a team that actually helped patients get quality drug products at the lowest reasonable price.  This is not how it works in larger, established Pharma companies, you feel like a cog in a big machine and obsolete procedures are written in stone.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It’s one of the worst place to work. It’s a graveyard of knowledges in Pharma and learning dirty politics by supervisor and management. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It has old school documents and Quality Management System. It’s a graveyard of a work in the Pharma area. It has a dirty politics playing by supervisor, juniors to managers. It has lots of stressful working hours by poor middle management who has no knowledge of interpersonal skills at all.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment and culture rooted in internal politics and supervisor does not guide and support you on work assignment.
Supervisor loves their big cabins, most of time on their personal smartphone on chatting and not supporting at work.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A day filling up with dirty politics as soon as your work by supervisor. A supervisor and manager checks your every move by following by their prawn juniors who don’t have technical knowledge and expertise in pharmaceutical industries. I would not go to there since supervisor and manager docks every minutes.

They lie to you from the jump. I worked here for a year. Things were great. people who you work with are great.  Then one day we had a meeting about our schedule. They change our schedule from 10hrs Monday - Thursday to 8hrs Monday- Friday. We was told we had no other choice because it will “cut out the overtime”. That was a straight lie. Not even two days into the new schedule they asked us to stay over 2 plus hours everyday for the rest of week. They started to make ot  for  Saturday and Sunday mandatory on top of asking us to stay over everyday during the week to cover the bosses behind.  You literally have no life outside of work.  The bosses don’t care. Job is way understaff. You’ll be doing two different things on the line when your really only supposed to be doing one. It’s something new everyday. You never know what you really are doing until you get there. Very unorganized! 

Unprofessional management from top to bottom. Hunger Games/Soviet Style Work culture where anyone at anytime will throw you under the bus to save their job. 
Management runs the company by placing fear in employees that if they stumble once their history. Upper management is trying to grow this company’s revenue as quickly as possible and think they can turn this into a big pharma company overnight.

Employees terminated at the drop of a hat. May have a job one day and may not the next day. QC analysts are under a lot of pressure. Make more than two mistakes in the same month or get more than two investigations for analyst error you are out the door.
Wouldn’t recommend this place to my worst enemy.

UPM is a terrible company to consider for employment. Especially the QC department. The department is full of disfunction and poor culture. Every error you make is documented and used as a means to not promote you. They have very high standards for documentation and everything is handwritten. The most minor error can land you in disciplinary meetings. The most worked and stressed employees are promoted but they are not happy. This company is ran by very wealthy rich men and misogyny is rampant. They will roll out the red carpet for you when you are consider joining and lie about raises and promotions but in the end none of it is true. Please do not consider working here. 

I worked there full time for more than 10 years and it was a hectic work environment with the almighty dollar driving everything regardless of impact on the employees. You were a victim of constantly moving targets and shifting priorities from upper management with little or no notice. Many 7 day weeks. You were typically given the workload of 3-4 people and never praised for meeting goals.

If you are the type of worker who does your best no matter what others are doing and you treat all of your co-workers with the same courtesy and respect no matter what their rank, you will be highly dissatisfied working at UPM. However if you enjoy kissing up to management and playing their games then you will likely enjoy this company. Unfair favoritism is rampant here. If you aren't part of the clique, forget about advancement, no matter how hard you work. I am so thankful I am no longer with this company. The issues all stem from the the ownership and upper management. These people are billionaires. Do you think they honestly care about what goes on here? They don't and  it is on display in every area of UPM.

Great advancement rate, if you're willing to put in the work. Cheapest health insurance costs I've ever had. Workplace culture is outstanding. Management has a very solid understanding of the work that we do and are very professional. I don't understand why there are negative reviews on here at all except that they are probably disgruntled employees who were fired for not following instructions. The only bad side of this company is they are currently short staffed due to their recent growth so alot of us are putting in a lot of hours until new chemists can start here.

Some of these reviews show harshness to a very high stress environment. Which is true. Yet, the problem with this company is that the dollar drives everything and poor, very poor management. Certain systems that should be in place are not. Although certain managers are trying their best to improve the work load, it had little to no impact on the overall work load.

Supervisor/management is EXTREMELY unprofessional, unfair, and rude. Money is absolutely everything - workers don't matter. Little room for growth. Safety concerns are overlooked. People are exploited on a regular basis. Located in the middle of nowhere. Very minimal work/life balance. Employees terminated for no reason. Constantly stressful and hectic environment. Stay FAR, FAR away.
