Typical day at work:
A typical day involved nonstop tasks with little downtime, including high call volume, dispatch coordination, patient communication, driving routes, after-hours responsibilities, and resolving technical issues at the branch, often without additional support.

What I learned:
I learned to operate under constant pressure, manage both CSR and driver responsibilities, handle technical and patient-related issues independently, and adapt to frequent schedule and on-call changes.

Management:
Management prioritized availability and output. On-call expectations were significantly heavier than initially communicated, and support during after-hours or technical issues was often limited.

Workplace culture:
The culture was highly reactive and workload-driven. While coworkers tried to help when possible, staffing strain, long hours, and frequent on-call coverage led to burnout.

Hardest part of the job:
The hardest part was the lack of work-life balance. Home life suffered due to missed meals, family dinners, birthdays, and personal events while remaining on-site or on-call handling equipment scanning and technical problems without assistance.

Most enjoyable part of the job:
The most enjoyable part was ensuring patients received critical medical equipment and the sense of accomplishment when problems were resolved despite minimal resources.

Each day is fast paced, challenging, and exciting. This career field isn't for everyone; however, if you enjoy pushing yourself to be better professionally each and every day, working at a fast pace, encountering new challenges to take on, multitasking, and working as a part of a team.... then this is the right field for you. Each day I am greeted by smiling faces by a group of coworkers who are constantly striving to be better than the day before. My job requires me to interact with multiple departments and work at a fast pace everyday. It is definitely not just a desk job. At the end of the day, you feel a sense of accomplishment from what you've completed and your days at work go by quickly as you are presented with new challenges and goals to figure out and resolve in a timely fashion. It is definitely a team first type of company. You are never left out there on your own trying to solve problems you may encounter. There is a great support system in place to help problem solve, train, and educate. There is a tremendous opportunity for professional growth as the company continues to expand, and it's a job you can take great pride in knowing that you are helping to make a difference. The owners and upper management are always available for any questions or concerns, and the company itself is great with recognizing its employees with monthly employee of the month awards as well as yearly employee of the year awards. Overall, it's a job that I'm glad I found and I am happy to be a part of the future and next steps that it takes.

A typical day of monkey grinding if you're a biomed with the hope that there is overtime which can be shut down or turned on like a light.
The management is a mixture of great and horrible individuals so encompass yourself accordingly. All companies play catch 1000 and your ethics or morals will be tested due to corporate reshaping at this company. The workplace culture has changed and not in promising way for the worker bees. I mean hey you still have a job right. The hardest part is talking about value to the employee and having nothing to show for it. Feeding me is amazing that one time whenever there is some type of recognition that has to do with the hospital staff but what happens when we move and the kitchen in the new building will not allow us to eat comfortably or cook?  The most enjoyable part of the job was field service right until it served an agenda, then it was massively controlled.  

A typical day at work involved coming in 10 minutes early in the morning and starting off my day by organizing what I need to get done for the day. The job is fast-paced and requires a high level of energy and enthusiasm. It can be highly demaning and I am always busy at work. I learned to manage my time in order to get all my tasks done at the end of the day so that I have a smooth morning for the next day. This company was a small group of women and each one of us had our own tasks and we worked as a team. My co-workers were always working hard and we helped each other.
The hardest part of the job was when I was not able to help the patient due to most of the time no Insurance, so there was nothing our company could do for the patient. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to help patients in need of medical supplies and equipment. I love working with people and helping out ederly people. It is a very rewarding job and you feel job when you know you are making a difference and helping people in need.

Employees lose faith in the company very fast.

This company is heading for a rude awakening. They can barely supply their customer hospitals, their product inventory is low, their equipment breaks easily, and they can't hire enough drivers to supply their branches. 

Management is full of anger prone people who have never held management positions before. Employees are treated as expendable, and are never listened to in a serious manner. HR will never solve your problems, and actively works against you. 

No sick days are provided to you, so don't get sick, even while working in a Covid infested hospital. You also get no holiday pay during your 3 month probation period even though your employee handbook says nothing in regards to that.

This company only cares about management. If you aren't in a position of power, you are out of luck. 

I would start my day by going over all the delivery and pick up tickets from the night before and enter them into spreadsheets and our company's database.  I will answer the phone when it rings to take delivery and pick up requests as well as resolve any disputes or problems our customers may have.  As the day goes I will dispatch drivers to take care of all the orders we get.  Every three months we have to a total inventory of all items we have in our warehouse and reconcile that against what our company database says we should and should not have.  I find that dealing with the customer is my favorite part of my job because it is the most challenging part of my job.  I get along well with all of my co-workers and I strive to keep a healthy relationship with all of them.

I would recommend this place if you are desperate for a job or need experience. Starting pay is $16 an hour which is terrible in Houston. There is essentially no room for growth, and people come and go all the time. I have been at the company for almost a year and have seen over a dozen people just in the biomed department move on or get fired. Management is not qualified to be called such, and the upper management in the company only care about themselves and how much we are making them. They recently put numbers on our desks, I'm assuming because they don't want to keep remembering whoever's name is on said desk. There are many other issues with this company I could bring up but it would be redundant. Overall I would just say stay away from this place.

A typical day you come in at 9 and work for 8 Hours you grab your pickup/or delivery for the day hop in the van and drive most of the shift going in and out of hospitals. If you don’t mind driving 95% of the time then this is for you however, if you can’t handle long hours going 14 hour shifts most of that shift driving then I would steer clear.  Also you go on call, most will say oh it’s no big deal but on call is another beast in itself it’s a 24h on call depending on your branch it could be you switch between primary or backup or you work 1 week off the next. Overall it’s an easy job.

US Med-Equip has a culture that feels much like being part of a family. The company is growing quickly and expectations are high as we serve a higher purpose.  We are in health care and all of our jobs can relate to serving a patient who is in need. The company solicits employee feedback from all locations weekly in an effort to keep all employees engaged and to seek opportunities for improvement. Employees have a voice here. If you are are looking for an opportunity to grow with a company who cares about the patient and has a family-like culture. US Med-Equip is the best place to work!
