The lovely thing about OneNeck is the job is fairly easy if you have any knowledge of the IT world at all. Then again, when it comes to their Service Desk, they don't even care about that. The documentation for how to work on issues has been written and re-written repeatedly so that any idiot who can turn on a computer can do it...and yet some people still don't know how to disable an account in Active Directory (hint: you find the name, right-click on it, and then left-click the word 'Disable') and then documentation has to be written for that. This place is so politically correct that you can't get straight talk from either your coworkers or management. And HR is not your friend. HR is there to protect the company and, when management wants someone gone, they will work with management to find reasons to build a case to make it happen. This place is like George Orwell's 1984...everything you say is monitored, everyone you talk to is watched, every action you take is scrutinized...but only if you're on their bad list.

The company is solid, the leadership team is supportive, and the environment is challenging and exciting for those who are eager to learn and can handle the very fast pace.  For some, the work-life balance can be challenging until one adjusts to the very fast pace and workload.  Leaders in the company are very good about listening to, and supporting, their co-workers.  

OneNeck is the result of 5 IT Services companies merging into one about three years ago, and as a result, there is a lot of consolidation that still needs to be done in supported environments, tools, and processes. This results in some inefficiency in executing day-to-day engineering work. 

If you are an adrenaline junkie and love working in a very fast-paced environment and learning on the fly, OneNeck is the place for you.  If you have trouble making and enforcing your own boundaries around work-life balance, working at OneNeck will be a struggle.

At the time of departure, the company's hiring standards for their service desk were almost non-existent. The statement that "Customer service skills cannot be taught, but technical skills can be learned" seems almost a mission statement as they hired individuals who had absolutely no knowledge or technical acumen.

Good: 

*The work is fairly simple - no physical labor
*Bagels on Mondays

Bad:

*If management wants you gone, they will find a way to make a paper trail. FMLA will not protect you and they will find every possible little thing they can to add to the cause of firing. (Ex: I once told a new hire to "Fake it until he makes it", as that is what the previous supervisor told me when I started. I was called into HR for that.)
*Favoritism exists
*Management is not there to be your advocate and support, but rather your overseer and monitor. Nothing said to them is said in any strict confidence and they will never be upfront, honest, or blunt.

A normal day at work starts off by reading company emails and looking at the ticket queue to see what needs to be done for the day. Then you take care of request or monitoring tickets if available. I have learned what it means to be a SQL database administrator from backup/restores to performance and I also learned about database security. Management is very professional and open to communication, the managers are friendly here and always enjoy a joke or two but they also want to see how you are performing. The hardest part about the job is being on call because there are some nights and or weekends where you may be woken up at the middle of the night to satisfy a high priority issue. The most enjoyable part of this job is having a solid team that you can learn things from and work with well educated people.

Smaller company that is free from many of the restrictions you'd find in a larger corporate environment, (i.e. easy to move to other departments, take on projects that you'd like so you can learn about various different technologies), but since the previous president left, they've stripped away all of the fun and perks.

In my role as PHP Software Engineer at US Signal Company, I worked on a Scrum Team in 1 week sprints.  The Sprint would start by taking tasks off the backlog, prioritizing them with team members, and breaking them down into individual tasks.  The ability to work on certain features with other Scrum Team members lent itself to more collaboration and a better end product.  At the end of each day, we had a 15 minute standup to go over what we worked on that day, what we were going to work on the next day, and any roadblocks that we ran into.  I really enjoyed being able to work in a team environment with other intelligent developers.

The company as a whole is a great place to work. Depending on your team and staffing, on-call isn't too bad. Good work life balance. The pay kind of stinks compared to the industry standards. That was the reason I left. Was only making about 80-85% market value. Even with remote work options this needed to be more in line with local rates. Management was excellent they have great leaders and they will get you mentors for advancement opportunities. Would recommend since getting hired direct you will get a competitive salary offer. Just don't expect much annually unless you move up tiers through promotion.

One of the greatest thing working here was the people I worked with.  Management was great, employees were great as well.  If they weren't, they didn't last long.

I learned a lot here and advanced a bit but the opportunity for further advancement was not there.  

Compensation was low for the Grand Rapids Area and they don't give annual raises.  Bonuses for the year were large and great but when you don't get a raise, its not enough.

I cannot complain on anything to this company before new management took over in 2013. They fired employees loyal, hardworking and asset to the company replacing with mediocre. That's where the fall started for OneNeck for client satisfaction, finances followed by lay offs.

I am missing this company what it used to be 8 years back, which had highest retention ratios as seeing 15-20 years employees was a common sight!

I worked for the company for 8 months while I was in school.  The environment is friendly and conducive to a low stress work environment.  The company focuses on educating their employees about their products and the industry in which they participate.  The executive staff, including the owner of the company, are dedicated to ensuring the company thrives to provide work for their employees and making a difference in the community.
