A typical shift in the ER was often fast paced with a minimum of 175 patients (walk in). Staffing usually not enough to cover the  patient acuity.
I learned how to chart via computer in the ED, time management, improved my critical thinking skills, recognized disease/symptom presentations rapidly, improved my listening skills and
improved my communication skills.
General work culture was depressing. Co-workers complained frequently about staffing and promotions.
Management wanted the department run one way. Not open to new methods of care delivery.
The hardest part about the job was not feeling valued by management.
The most enjoyably part of the job was interacting with the patients,families, other health professionals, and the public.

Methodist Hospital has great potential, the biggest downfall(s) is there management, employee advancement, and benefits. The administration team tries to understand employees' concerns but does not act on any of the issues to resolve employees' worries. Benefits are also a great downfall, paid time off for employees' is given based on years of service. However, colleagues here a great support and make working here enjoyable. Needless to say there is much improvement to be made given the type of workplace culture established thus far, I have learned how to handle work place conflict and consider employees' opinions, thoughts and ideas.

In this company, I was one of 3 nurse practitioners that worked independently to see any accidents or injuries that occurred during the work day.  We also did history and physicals on the police and fire departments for the city of  Arcadia.  They were scheduled as part of our day.  We also did complete physicals on new hires.  These were a bit more detailed than the usual physical for new hires. The physicals for both groups usually took about 1 hour to complete. The hardest part of the job is that there were no breaks.  The most enjoyable part of the job was doing the complex history and physicals for the fire and police department.

Very corrupt  Hospital. Does  not adhere  to Infection  Control or Patient  Safety  Standards.  Will leave patients  tied up in Restraints for Extended periods of time. Understaffing always. Over worked.  Treated like Trash by other Staff and Management. No compensation for being a Good  Employee. Patient's  are demanding. Security staff doesn't  even take care of your  parked  car. Unsafe work place.  Bad Employees get rewarded. They Threaten to fire  Nurses that call out sick and force them to come to work Sick. They rather hire Travel Nurses  than Promote from within. Horrible treatment period to staff and patients.

Being apart of assisting patients 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Watching patients from the ICU who cannot do for themselves.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
the environment is busy and the culture is very diverse, which I can appreciate.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical  day for me is like upbeat, co-workers very helpful. Come in checking the work flow of patients. Hospital staff and co-workers always willing to help. I truly like the environment.

As with any other job, having a good manager/supervisor is pretty much hit or miss and out of your control.  Fortunately, I had a great nursing manager in my assigned/home unit (med-surg tele), so my experience overall was positive.  Pay at that time was average (not below nor above market value).  The hospital is in a nice & relatively safe location (actually close to a golf course and the mall).  During my experience, we did not float too often, and most doctors were okay to work with.  Co-workers in my home unit were helpful.  For the most part, this is a decent hospital to work in (especially for new grads). 

I felt very well trained and competent after finishing my first unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Methodist Hospital. The Spiritual Care department has years of experience and is filled with kind people with high standards. The department is very well run and supportive of chaplain interns and so are most of the other employees with whom we interact. Nearly everyone gave us the opportunity to be part of the team, even as "interns." We were treated like staff and expected to be willing and ready to jump in. It is my foundation at Methodist that's provided an entirely new career trajectory for me. I am grateful.

Methodist was the first Acute hospital job I got after getting my RN license. I have had such a great experience working here. Mostly because of the people. To be perfectly honest, the benefits are very minimal compared to some other places. But the camaraderie and support I have experiences from my co-workers has been worth all the stress. We are highly rated among all the state surveys for our customer service. I loved my time there, but I need room to advance and grow. It is a bittersweet parting of ways and I will never forget all the knowledge, skills, love and support I had here.

A typical work day is very fast pace, verifying demographics registering patients bedside,Ive learned that the customer is always right and no matter how upset a patient is, The patient is not upset with you , So ive learned not too take it personel and help the patient as best I can so they can have the best visit at our hospital. Its awsome to have great coworkers that have great work ethic. And its always good to talk too your coworkers about how too make the work  process better.

In the course of pastoral ministry, often there is a requirement by Seminaries to complete one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education, or "CPE." This is a site where one can gain that educational credit. You take the CPE course two-three times a week as a cohort, then use the skills you learn in class to see patients in the best ways possible. This would include facilitating Viewings for families after patients expire, learning how to manage crisis circumstances, and help patients find their latent spiritual and emotional resources in light of their hospitalization.
